A brilliant interview/presentation by Baz. ' Elvis' has undoubtedly been as much a learning and maturing experience for Baz as it has for Austin. In general, I feel that Baz's earlier films are too glitzy, glittery, and weak compared to 'Elvis', which is brought down to earth by Austin's almost otherworldly brilliance and truth to reality. If Baz can learn from Austin and pare away his basic tendency to superfluous glitz, he will become an extraordinary director.

Wouldn't it be great if Baz, Austin and Tom went to the candlelit vigil on the 16th August this year to commemorate the 45th year since Elvis left the building and how much this would mean to the Presley family.
@eileengriffin64762 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would be. FYI, Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg are Executive Producers in a mini series with Austin Butler as the lead role this year, it's called "Masters of the Air"

From the historic iconic comments by President Jimmy Carter at the time of elvis's death, to the soul depth and diversity of elvis singing. "If I can dream" as Dr king and Bobby Kennedy are assassinated, this beautiful film captures the humanity and artistry of elvis presley like no film before it. Truly remarkable

I have seen this movie over 7 times. Every time I learn something about our country, determination, obsessions, addictions, family dynamics, spiritual connection w our God, giving up, not giving up. Doing what is right because it is right. Being accepted. Not being accepted. Pure life and pure love, there is just so much. I cannot let this go. Butler and Baz have given us such a gift.

I went to Graceland & it's amazing. It's so beautiful. What stands out in my mind is his gorgeous horse ranch ,& of course his plane called Lisa Marie. I went inside it & it's decorated with shag rugs. It was like a living room. If you get a chance, go. It's definitely worth it.

~~~ Good movie BUT it only shows him from a Blues perspective, and NOT the innovator he truly was. Elvis was always credited with mixing Country with Blues and creating a unique sound, howeve the movie leaves out all the other influences that go into making Rock & Roll and Pop Music. Elvis was a melting-pot of music and cultures, not just Blues. Granted, it was the blues that caused controversy and that's what sells tickets, however Elvis Presley CANNOT be contained in just one genre, nor should he be portaryed as only a blues artist. From the very beginning of his music (1953-1955) at Sun Studios, he sang Country, Pop, Bluegrass, Hymns (white as well as black). Growing up in the 30s & 40s he idolized the singing cowboys in the movies (Roy Rogers, Gene Autry) Here are a Elvis' other BIG influences, Country & Bluegrass Music had a major effect on him, as did Pop Ballad singers like Dean Martin & Bing Crosby. The formation of Pop music and Rock & Roll both derive plenty of country influences (even Chuck Berry had country influences). Popular music draws from Country, Bluegrass/Appalachian, and even from Classical music & opera. I also believe the movie creates an incorrect image of Elvis learning to sing from his exposure to the minority church. Truth is, Elvis influences were on both sides of the isle. He actually did his first singing in his family's own church, the Assembly of God, and not the minority church. While Elvis loved Rosetta Tharpe & Mahalia Jackson, we cannot leave out folks like JD Sumner, the Statesmen, Hovie Lister, and Blackwood Quartet who inlfuenced him as a youth. Hope you Enjoy these samples below... Big Band GLEN MILLER ORCHESTRA @ Big Band - TOMMY DORSEY @ Big Band - ANDREW SISTERS @ Bluegrass - Flatt & Scruggs! @ Country - Hank Snow @ Country - HANK WILLIAMS @ WESTERN COWBOY - Roy Rogers @ WESTERN COWBOY - Gene Autry @ GUITAR - LES PAUL & MARY FORD @ GUITAR - Chet Atkins @ INTERNATIONAL (Spanish) @ Appalaichin Music @ APPALAICHIN gospel - CARTER FAMILY @ TRADITIONAL GOSPEL - JD Sumner & Blackwood Quartet @ Folk Music - WOODY GUTHRIE @ OPERA - Mario Lanza @ Pop Ballad - DEAN MARTIN * * * Elvis’ biggest idol & influence* * * @ Pop Ballad - Bing Crosby @
Tbis guy made elvis an angry man unhappy and sad all that elvis wasn't. Listen to his real friends interview and cousin talking abiut elvis he said elvis wasn't an angry sad man.. This movie was not good.
@Kyubone2 жыл бұрын
His anger in the movie is justified though, remember this is mainly about the relationship between him and his manager, and lots of crucial moments in his life that were shown that was less happy. But that in no way means that he was unhappy all the time in real life, heck he isn't even unhappy all the time in the movie! But the movie can't show every little moment, that's impossible.
@lifeissweet98262 жыл бұрын
I've read many books about elvis and he definitely was an angry sad, disappointed complicated man. His career veered into a direction after Germany, that he never wanted. the movies he was contracted to make he didn't like because of all the songs. He wanted to make a great drama, and tour more like before and in Europe. He wanted to be offered better songs. Parker kept elvis a prisoner doing Vegas, so he could reap all that money. One time Parker negotiated the sale of something of elvis, his song copy rights maybe, and elvis got 4.5 million and Parker got over 6 million. Unbelievable. Elvis took drugs for a reason, he was in pain from arthritis, and unhappy with his career and the divorce. You're in lala land if you think elvis was blissfully happy performing all those silly movies and show after show in Vegas. He hated Vegas after the first two years. The movie is correct when Elvis says on stage, eff The international and eff Vegas. He was so talented but unfulfilled. Much of his private life had happy moments but too much getting ready for more crushing tours. He worked himself to death to pay the bills.
