@@emperorconstantinexipalaio4121 Mostly because it was a city taken by assault, which almost always turned into a massacre, no matter who attacked. The defenders had also expelled all the Christians, so only infidels remained, and they chose what in the hindsight was rather unwise form of psychological warfare. "Wooden crosses were regularly dragged up on to the city walls to be desecrated through spitting and even urination in full sight of the enraged crusaders." -Asbridge, The Crusades.

theonlylauri What I’m saying is I think it is generally called extremely brutal by medieval standards because Christians did it and our society wants to make Christianity seem as vile as possible. In reality, it was most likely just as bad as any other brutal medieval siege.
@theonlylauri5 жыл бұрын
@@emperorconstantinexipalaio4121 Yeah, that may be why its brutality is talked up these days, but I think even the original sources mention it was quite bloody. That said, it's true there were plenty of other brutal sacks, so Jerusalem was just worse than usual, not some unique atrocity.

Its kind of embarrasing compared to rich Australia who have an shitty treatment for refugees. But what do you have to say for Saudi Arabia ? They are far from secular yet they dont take any of the Muslim refugees and have an afwul status for woman. Same for all the Golfstates. They take zero. Also Indonesia (Muslim country with biggest population) refuses to take any Rohingya. Bangladesh did a lot more for them. In the end assholes are everywere in every culture. Its most important we criticize them and dont turn a blind eye. Rich wolfs will always let the sheep fight amongst each other about who has the purest wool.

Fun Fact of the day: Iftikhar Ad Dawla translates to "Pride of the nation". Oh, and the Arabic text is written wrong because Arabic letters are written in 3 different ways depending on their position in the word, but here all the letters are written like if they were the last letter in the word here's the correct version: "العدو هنا" (Which, btw means the enemy is here) it's not that big of a deal though the video was still top notch. keep 'em coming!
@masterrhonin7 жыл бұрын
You think he did it intentionally? That happens a lot when using Arabic Alphabet in programs that don't support Arabic fully. So it's not the editor's fault. So plz appreciate his work and stop complaining about trivial issues.
@yahyaschannel83347 жыл бұрын
Well, actually I do appreciate the work and I even acknowledged the relative triviality of this issue in my comment:"it's not that big of a deal though the video was still top notch. keep 'em coming! " so not only is your comment redundant, but it also showcases a "criticism is bad" mentality and that's just plain wrong! when I'm done with a project the first thing I ask people is to find flaws in it small or big, so I won't repeat them in the next project not only does that keep me on my toes but it also ensures quality and this channel's quality is Mount Everest levels of high, but still pointing out little flaws such as these will only help the show.

though "AD-Dawla" means simply "the state", his name is "Iftikhar AD-Dawla" meaning "the pride of the state".

Isaac Alves Definetely not totally different. Deus Vult = God Wants It Allah Akbar = God is great They're both praises. Obviously, the context is different

Andrea Cremoni Isn't "wills it" a closer translation than "wants it"? But your assertion stands correct. Both were used by followers of their respective cultures/religions as a battle cry. I believe the disconnect comes from the fact that one is only rarely used, and the other is still in use (but stereotypically when performing a specific activity).
@AndreaCremoni7 жыл бұрын
Garret LeBuis Yeah, you're absolutely correct. Btw, I wrote "God Wants It" because the translation I found in a book said exactly that in Italian ("Dio lo vuole"), but "wills it" looks even better

Andrea Cremoni Gotta love multiple translations. "Well, according to this, we're either going to be dissolved in acid, or we're the rightful owners of the treasure. It's a little ambiguous."

They were French, The first crusade start in Clermont in Center of France, Raymond, Baudouin, Godefroy de Bouillon are french name not Viking or Normans name and Templars was also from France but i know its hard to accept that when you're an Anglos ...
@TreiberSeptim5 жыл бұрын
Cyril Normans as a people descended from franks (germans), gauls (french) and vikings (scandinavians) soo they weren’t really french either, they were a mix between germanic people , french people and scandinavian people. Also, going way back, charlemagne was a german, born in Aachen. But isn’t that the point? Europeans are so mixed in our heritage that we’re all brothers, and we should act like it.
@cyril65745 жыл бұрын
@Ricardo VS So why french family name sounds not German (Martin, Dupont, Dupuis, Dubois, Leroux, Giroud...) German and French people doesn't looks physically similar. Some german tribes set up in France in the past but doesn't replace the original people who are Celts/Latin. The only french from German ethnicity are from east of France (Alsace/Moselle) thats why Germany Nazy annexed this territory according to their pan-germanism policy.
@gherve2225 жыл бұрын
@Ricardo VS tf are you talking about french aren't germans but Franks (germanic) and gauls (celtic) and "germanic" doesn't mean german
@gherve2225 жыл бұрын
@Ricardo VS and a person with common sense wouldn't refer the french as german :/
