@@oibardicfury9333 That's not only wrong, but in the current scenario of the books impossible in the way the show portrays it. **Spoiler warning for those who have not read Book 3 and the Theon preview Chapter. Stannis in his current state is surrounded inclement weather and preparing to face the Bolton army. He is near Winterfell and not even with Shireen. The logical, capable commander that he is left his family as well as Mellisandre at the Wall (because they are non-combatants) when he departed to fight the Boltons. Furthermore when the fanatical portions of his army are burning unbelievers on their way to confront the Boltons Stannis bans them from doing so and says: "Half my army is made up of unbelievers. I will have no burnings. Pray harder." It is possible that Melissandre at the wall could commit the attrocity with his wife who is devoted to her, but please do not deceive people in saying that Stannis will commit the act when as any book reader knows that he has no ability to do so before fighting the Boltons. Now let's exmamine his intent, this quote about his feelings towards Ramsey Bolton should indicate to you how nessecary he might feel any sacrifice particularly of his daughter for the sake of winning the battle. (Speaking to a captured Theon) "I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. His hand of the King and father figure is the head of House Arryn, plus he is also married to best friend wife's sister making the Riverlands alliance even stronger. One of the things that stood out the most to me with Game of Thrones was when Tywin melted down Ned's great sword. With Scottish ancestry, I've always felt a strong kinship with any "Men of the North" type people and that just kind of churned my stomach to see that.

After Ser Arthur Dayne was killed, Ned Stark could have kept his legendary sword Dawn for himself but instead he travelled to Starfall and returned it. The Lannisters are really jumped up thieves. Robert had a solid alliance with four of the great houses in addition to controlling the Stormlands and Crownlands. That Balon thought his rule was weak just shows how incompetent Balon was.
@Dell-ol6hb Жыл бұрын
yea he was truly a dumbass, also he somehow thought that the kingdoms closest to him wouldn't also immediately support Robert because they obviously fucking hate the Ironborn and wouldn't want them to be independent just constantly raiding them
@vikingcathq Жыл бұрын
Yes Balon is an allegory for stupid people who cling to dying impractical traditions and don't accept reality.
@b_de_silva8 ай бұрын
6 years too late but, balon was thinking of the bannermen of the great houses, he always knew that the starks, tullys, Lannister, arryn and baratheons would support Robert, he was think that robert wouldn't get support from houses like the brackens, frey, brax, westerlings, royce, waynwood, caron and dondarion, houses sworn to the great houses that had nothing to gain from this war, he was wrong of course but only in hindsight, House tully for example can raise less men than the Freys, Brackens and Blackwoods, hell House hightower is actually way stronger than house tyrell, the great houses are only powerful as long their bannermen follow them, in this case they did but it wasn't unreasonable for Balon to gamble on them not following robert

This video made me think that the Ironborn could keep their "old way" and also avoid being wrecked by the 7 kingdoms. All they have to do is become seafaring mercenaries. They can fight on behalf of the free cities in the narrow sea to attack the shipping of their enemies or raid their shores. They could even do the same for the Iron Throne. I wonder why they never thought about doing that. Probably because they're not real I guess.

This was a really well done video!! I really enjoyed this, and they say the whole video was produced is extremely impressive. Instead of just looking like yet another Game of Thrones KZbin video, this video looked like it was made by the show runners as a DVD extra feature. I love how you narrated every part of the Greyjoy rebellion, and the visuals were just as impressive. The animation when it showed the small council meeting when the message was delivered to Pycelle,then Robert got up and walked to the window was cool. Also the animation of Victarion and the iron fleet being trapped in a pincer between Stannis' and Paxter Redwynes' fleets was really cool also. I'm definitely leaving a like on this video and am subbing to the channel to check out more of your content.

@dot8186 жыл бұрын
Man ... you can't blame Daenerys for being a Mary Sue and also blame her for not using her own abilities to solve problems. The feature of a Mary Sue IS her ability to solve everything on her own.

@SantomPh6 жыл бұрын
Daenerys is no Mary Sue, she is one of the main characters. And using dragons is one of her OWN abilities. She has Grey Worm, Daario and Barristan Selmy to handle military affairs (plus Meereneese who are absent in the show). If you can't handle fantasy, go read something simpler. I'd suggest the Peter and Jane books.
@subutaynoyan53726 жыл бұрын
Well, she did come up with the battleplan to take Meereen, in the books. Every character had been ruined in the show. Besides, she's a child. Not a seasoned commander who had been trained in the ways of war.

The thing with many battles in the past of the ASOIAF is that they're not well documented in tactics, setting and the like. GRRM only mentions what's useful to the reader and the story
@mrstarfishh336 жыл бұрын
Stanley Hendrick Yeah one of his weaknesses is his inability to visualise or describe a battle very well... He usually only focuses on one or two people, as oppose to the larger picture.

Still, my well-read friends, I cannot wait for The Winds of Winter. Let us all hope that GRRM will write like the wind.
@SantomPh6 жыл бұрын
GRRM does not need to do so, as ASOIAF is written as a series of viewpoints and maesters' writings. No one sees a battle the same way, so an overview is next to impossible. All we need to know is that Maeleys joined eight other rulers and was going to invade the Westerosi mainland, King Jaehereys II called the banners, many of the grandfathers and fathers in the main story made their bones, Lord Baelish made friends with Lord Tully, Aerys II won his knighthood, Quellon Greyjoy joined in and Barristan Selmy killed Maelys Blackfyre and joined the Kingsguard. That's all that needs to be known, really.
