Hearing Stephen Dillane makes me happy. His portrayal of Stannis made me love the character, with all his flaws/sins and his little touching moments. The guy had it rough. Even after all his efforts to help Robert, which meant going against his duty and loyalty to Aerys, he still got nothing. Storms end should’ve been his. The throne was his by right and everyone except Ned undermined him. His wife couldn’t even provide him with a male heir and his only daughter was sick with greyscale. Robert never loved him, Renly betrayed him. I would’ve loved to see the peach scene in the show. Stannis said he would go to his grave remembering Renly and his peach. A way for his brother to tell him to smell the roses, a proof that they loved each other to some degree.

I honestly do not consider the Rebellion unjustified. Even if Lyanna was not abducted, Aerys still murdered Rickard and Brandon Stark, Lord Paramount of the North and the heir to Winterfell on bullshit charges and flimsy evidence and in gruesomely cruel fashion before calling for the heads of Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon on unjustified grounds who were under the direct protection of House Arryn. The crimes against House Stark alone made it certain that there would be war, especially since they had been nothing but loyal vassals to the Targaryens for almost 300 years. Pro-Targaryen loyalists honestly disgust me by refusing to acknowledge the legitimate grievances that all the belligerents had against the House of the Dragon, especially the Starks. I do, however, extremely regret what happened to Elia Martell and her children because they did not deserve to die.
@daankeizer4469 Жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment but the actual rebels had absolutely nothing to do with Elia and her childeren’s deaths. That was all Tywin’s doing to get in good with Robert before the rebels won. Sometimes ya gotta wonder why they bother changing the details for the show's Histories and Lore. Yeah, sometimes it's due to the age differences or fewer characters (like Davos having only one son), so it's understandable. But sometimes there's just absolutely no reason for it. Catelyn and Ned were together for a _fortnight_ before Ned had to get back to the war, not a night. And he was already back at Winterfell with baby Jon Snow when Catelyn arrived there with baby Robb after the war. Why bother changing that? Because it makes it seem more fortuitous if Ned knocked Catelyn up on the first try? Does it make it seem more dramatic if Catelyn is waiting longingly by the window for her man to come home, when she spots him from afar carrying a baby? Tropes.
@darth8562 жыл бұрын
I agree about changing a fortnight to a night. Seems pointless. But having Ned arrive with baby Jon, rather than Catelyn being the one to arrive, was probably indeed changed because the first option sounded more dramatic, for Ned to arrive with Jon. Btw, I kinda wish the show would at least have given Davos two children. The other one could very well have been kept entirely off screen. It just seems a little cruel to leave him childless.
@zardox782 жыл бұрын
@@darth856 Well, Davos also (briefly) spoke about his wife as if she was still alive in season 2. And then in all subsequent seasons, even though it was never clearly stated, he seemed to start regarding her as if she was his _late_ wife and had been for awhile. There was never any notion that there was some home for him to get back to one day. It's subtle but it's a very early sign of D&D not not having a solid plan and being all too willing to contradict what they'd already established for the sake of keeping it simple.
@darth8562 жыл бұрын
@@zardox78 I'll have to take your word for it. The last time I remember them mentioning his wife was in season 3, and it sounded like she was alive at that point at least.

Gods be good. I cant get enough of the westerosi lore read by the actor/characters themselves. The varys little finger part is great. Why dont they all pitch in to read their chapters and lines for the most epic game of audiobooks ever?😊

We need a Robert’s Rebellion series from HBO just to see the characters & these Westeros historic scenes brought to life. A young Robert Baratheon on the battlefield with his hammer & stag helmet dueling with prince Rhegar & shattering his ruby crested armor. The Mad King, a young Ned Stark & John Arryn , Ser Arthur Dane “ The Sword of the Morning” , Jamie Lannister earning his “The king slayer” name, Tywin Lannister ordering Gregor Clegane to murder Elia Martell & her children, “The day the smiles died” tournament, the escape of Daenarys & her brother, Davos “ The Onion Knight”…..The Battle of the Trident, The Battle of the Bells, The Seige of Storm’s End …… So much great material at their fingertips !

HBO was smart. They wanted to avoid the stench of the GoT finale, so they made a series without any of those characters.

It is always funny to me when people call Robert a usurper when Aegon the Conquerer, conquered Westeros and burned some who didn’t bend the knee just because he wanted to. Even when the Mad King burned the Starks who were ruling the North for thousands of years, people didn’t say a word to the unworthy king because “Birthright”. Lords and peoples of Westeros have their minds so filled with “honor” and loyalty, they threw away the rationality completely
