No, the Thunder do not have a 3 point problem and don’t need to trade specifically for a 3 point shooter. Like you said Chet is a spacer and will help when he returns but more importantly this was already one of the top 3 point shooting teams last season with the same team. To me it seems this drop off is a conscious decision and it could go back to where it was if they wanted to. NBA players have finite energy and this Thunder team has clearly decided to expend that energy on defense. They are a generationally good defense in an era of the best offense the NBA has ever seen. Yes that takes the right players, but more than anything else it takes relentless effort. Naturally when you do that you’ll be more tired on offense and that will effect your accuracy, and you’ll also try and rest some between defensive positions while on offense. The Thunder looked at their roster and said we can win more games by playing elite defense, and they look to be correct so far. Last season they were a little worse on defense and a little better on offense and they got bounced in the second round. If you had an energy gauge above the player like they do in video games it would show the Thunder using 65% of it on defense and 35% on offense. Last season it was closer to 50% on each and they were really good on both sides of the ball. This season they are historically elite on defense and just good on offense. I don’t know this for a fact but I’m guessing they’re also dedicating more practice time on defense this season. I truly believe if the Thunder said we’re going to go back to last season’s method of exerting the same amount of energy on both sides of the ball their averages would go back to last seasons averages, but they clearly believe they can win a title with this method and I think they can as well.

Maybe just treat it as a take foul regardless of who or how the offense is fouled unless its a shooting foul? Handcuffs the defense pretty hard. But if the offense gets freethrows and ball, you wouldn't wanna foul since 3-5 points per possession would be very possible.
