Few American actors master a Standard British Accent. Dakota did. Even some great American actors make a complete hash of it when they try. So for a teenager, she impressed me.

Odd how even presenters on BBC Breakfast refer to the accent as a British accent. That would encompass Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland not to mention the multiple regional accents of England and you surely can't group them all together.

That's true and I suppose the regional variation isn't a problem but to group four different countries together and say they all sound like a Southern London accent seems strange to me.

Southern London? No way! Besides, there is no 'Southern' London accent, just a South London accent. But there is a Standard British Accent, which is the natural accent of the Home Counties. It's the accent my three kids have. I'm naturally bidialectal, but one of those accents is standard British, with a slight Irish twang. Britain has many distinct regional accents, but none of them are from Northern Ireland, Britain only consists of England, Scotland and Wales. If you include Northern Ireland, you've not got Britain, but rather you've got the UK. Or to give it its full current name, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
