As you would have seen it in the morning, and I think not previously on KZbin, here is the final hour of BBC Breakfast News on the day after the 1997 election. This section covers 8 AM to 9 AM.
Breakfast News is presented by Justin Webb. John Prescott, Lord McNally, Martin Bell, Stephen Dorrell and Nicholas Budgen give interviews, while there is a studio panel of Douglas Hurd, Neil Kinnock and David Steel. Denis Murray sets the scene for Northern Ireland's results, and there is a report on the reaction in the financial markets. Sally Magnusson interviews SNP leader Alex Salmond.
As this was recorded in London, we have the Newsroom South East opt outs presented by Shaun Ley.

This was one of the last chances for people to enjoy the original Breakfast News theme tune. By June 1997 it was completely revamped.

@@jacksugden8190 Jack, this version used for the 1997 Breakfast News election edition seems different to what I listen to when I watch Breakfast News from say 1990. It seems more high pitched and different tone. Do my ears deceive me?

I doubt this will happen again.

This catastrophic Tory defeat was due entirely to the One Nation takeover of the party after stabbing the brilliant Margaret Thatcher in the back in 1990. Major came in and we suffered the disastrous Black Wednesday in Sept. 1992 and whacking 15% interest rates. The Tories lost all economic credibility. This explains the landslide defeat, this explains what happens when you lurch to the left under Heseltine, Clarke, Heath, Howe, Hurd and Major. In 2018. the Conservatives are just another useless, hopeless Liberal party.

They had the chance to elect Redwood as leader and he lost.

Thatcher or Redwood would’ve lost in 1992 or 1997

@@ciaranmarsh255 Maggie would have comfortably seen off Kinnock; Labour was still a socialist party; millions still had bitter memories of union tyranny of the 1970's and the abysmal 1979 ''Winter of Discontent''. Major reduced the 1987 majority of 104 seats to just 21.

@@lennylaa1686 no she wouldn’t have. By 1992 people would’ve been tired of her and wanted a change. One of the reasons Major won is because he wasn’t Maggie.

@@ciaranmarsh255 Unlike you, I lived through those glory Tory years. Labour leader Kinnock was a charlatan, no leadership abilities at all. On the other hand, Queen Maggie was a Titan, a global states leader and sitting on a 104 seat majority, she would have won comfortably.
