Thank you so much for this. Not only is it a historical testimony of a choir that is no longer with us in this sense, it is a record of a liturgical world that has almost disappeared from England. What a treasure. To think that this kind of service was the norm at least in our parents' lifetime!

It's our pleasure. I had the great honour to rescue all the reel-to-reel tapes from Ushaw before it closed. Go to this page of the Archive website and scroll down to watch a TV broadcast of High Mass from Ushaw, 1960. It's breathtaking! www.recordedchurchmusic.org/radio-tv-broadcasts and if I might indulge my own chapel where I am the MC,have a look at extracts from our High Mass and Benediction for Corpus Christi of this year. beauchampstleonard.org/music-liturgy We strive to keep our great Anglo-Catholic tradition alive!

Amazing indeed! I studied at Durham and was often at Ushaw though there was nothing of this ilk to be found by then. Guitars and sandals seemed more the thing, alas. Well done with your Anglo-Catholic tradition. Comforting!

Please sir, I implore for you to upload as many of the reel to reel footage of the masses said in Ushaw, as I have been baffled by it's beauty for a year now. I have never heard this audio recording of Vespers. I'd also like to see how Vatican II impacted the seminary from 1965 to 1969 with the experiments of the liturgy, to 1971, the Mass of Paul VI we have now. Good luck, and thank you!

If anyone knows that, it is I. The poster is an Anglo-Catholic and I wish him well from the other side of the Tiber.
