BBC Dragons Den pitch to Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies, Steven Bartlett.
RBR active™had the opportunity to our worlds' only clinically researched, clinically trialled, medically proven Deep Vein Thrombosis prevention device.
Raising awareness of Thrombosis, Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism is so important as one in every four deaths globally is Thrombosis related.
So if you're sedentary - at a desk working, on a flight, gaming, in hospital, in a care home, during pregnancy or going through treatment for cancer for just 90 minutes, blood flow to your lower limbs has decreased by over 50% this puts you in danger of developing a potentially deadly blood clot.

I had a pulmonary embolism in 2004 as a result of a massive DVT in my knee two days after a football injury. The Embolism cut off flow into my lungs and nearly killed me. it would have killed me had I been asleep when it happened. Luckily I was awake and managed to get to hospital on time in order to be saved. My thigh had swelled to 37" in circumference (larger than my waist) and it completely ruined the valves in the femoral vein. Seventeen years later i'm still on an anticoagulant medication and will be for the rest of my life There is the occasional news item about deep vein thrombosis risks while flying (economy class syndrome) but still, very few people know much about the risks of being immobile for extended periods. This is despite it being a very common condition. Many many millions of people get Deep Vein thrombosis and or a P/E each year. This can arise randomly, or after surgery, or after an accident or injury, When I first got the knee injury I wasn't warned by anyone at the hospital about elevating or keeping the leg moving to make the calf muscles help pump blood around. They just strapped my knee, gave me painkillers and booked me back in for an x-ray a week later "once the selling had gone down !!" I was very lucky It's an evolutionary trait in humans. Since human ancestors first stood upright our entire vascular system was essentially compromised, compared to our ancestors who were on all fours, plus the knee joint is very congested with nerves, bones, veins and a major artery, so local swelling can cause havoc with bloodflow which bottlenecks around the knee One in three people who suffer a pulmonary embolism will die from it if they do not get treatment straight away... treatment is not very easy if you are on a plane !! I've only gone ahead with one long-haul flight since this happened; a ten hour flight to the Caribbean, where I was hot, cramped and suffered lots of pain and swelling with the after effects (thrombolisis) This would help and I could see customers happily paying £10 and either taking it with them or leaving it behind for the next person. I'm not sure about the practicalities of interval cleaning by airline staff, but like headphones on flights it may end up being a disposable item (so a recyclable product would be a goal) Stephen Bartlett is correct that wearable tech like a smartwatch or phone with alarms to remind you not to cross legs and to flex your muscles and move joints would also work I think Touka is great for getting on board with this. It won't make him rich, but if it raises awareness of the risks then he'll get his rewards one way or another. I wish them luck !!

It's been a challenge, but we're working hard to get the RBR legflow™ into the NHS, care-homes, airlines, travel industry and the gaming industry. The gaming industry is an interesting one, but it's frightening just how long people are sedentary gaming on-line. You just have to Google "gamer dies of DVT" and it's so sad.

We've looked into the possibility of a redesign (so it folds for example), the trouble is, we looked at the clinical research and trials, and the shape and design gives the maximum increase in blood flow to the lower limbs. Another concern is to ensure that there aren't any areas where any potential dirt could build up. The RBR legflow™ is antimicrobial, but we have to be wary about general dirt.

@@jimbim1623 Mr Jim Bim - every day that I wake up & find myself alive is a good day. But - just for a laugh - why not try to concentrate on the actual subject of this video, and my comment ?? Shall we try that? When I travel long haul, I always exercise my legs by pressing on the floor with my toes, then my heels. These are exactly the exercises that this piece of plastic junk are supposed to provide. So - it doesn't take a genius to figure ... why do I need a pc of plastic junk to exercise my legs, when I can exercise my legs without it? Next - in case u haven't been paying attention for the past decade - the world is in crisis because of (amongst other things) plastic junk. That's TWO excellent reasons for not making this pc of plastic junk. So, my good friend, tell me again about who is having the bad day - you ... or me ??

In India and China, we have an insole with accupuncture points. The retail price is 1 pound for 3 pairs. We do have a lot of DVT cases but that comes with age and some medical treatment. Probably Europe and North America have more instances of DVT due to the colder climates
@rbractive6588
@rbractive6588 Жыл бұрын
Age has no bearing on those affected by DVT, it is quite simply being sedentary. Yes, there are some medical conditions that can, and do increase the threat, and in fact, those going through cancer treatments are at an 80% increased threat. The climate, again has no bearing. Our best advice is to keep as mobile as you can, and don't stay sedentary for too long.

Not too sure what he would have done if he was in an important meeting, I doubt he'd say; "I've got to stop now and walk around for 1 minutes". The reality is, we all sit far too long at our desks, at our game consoles, and a beep of a watch is not going to change that. The good thing about the RBR legflow™ is that it's there, sat under your feet all of the time. It's such a simple device, that has some amazing results, some people just don't understand this. It was a tricky one. The research took place in 2005 by Professor Beasley, and is safe because of the clinical copyrights we have in place. A patent on the actual product would have been great, but the sad reality is, it will make little to no difference. Someone overseas will copy it, we know that, and to take legal action against these individuals would be financially impossible (you just cant track down the people in China), my course of action was to ensure that the research and clinical trials were 100% ours, so when we deal with airlines, the NHS, international businesses etc, we can say with absolute confidence that our product is the first and only real DVT prevention device and is proved through research and clinical trials. Other devices (that might look the similar) don't have this, so, should they look to save £1.00 to £2.00 on an inferior product, they run the risk of potentially massive legal costs, should anyone use the un researched and trialled product. We are also approved by the MHRA which is the government agency for approving medical devices, without their approval, we have nothing. Thanks so much for your comments by the way, is great to hear from so many people. Paul

Hi Naveen, thanks so much for your comments. Ah yes, crossing legs, I did tell Peter off..! But, it had to be done. Research shows that when people are sedentary, blood flow to the lower libs has decreased by over 50% in just 90 minutes, by the person crossing their legs, they are quite literally forming a barrier in their deep veins (a bit like folding a garden hose, it restricts flow) - We've developed the medical product to be used whilst the user is sedentary (at a desk, on a flight, in a care home, gaming, in the NHS), moving the legs does do something, however, using the RBR legflow™ is proven to increase blood flow by over 10-fold (10.9 fold to be exact), moving your legs, only increases blood flow to the normal level, there is no "increase" as such.

Why wouldn't anyone simply purchase a ball with like protrusions and stabilise it to perform the same exercises?
@rbractive6588
@rbractive6588 2 жыл бұрын
Quite simply, because they don't produce the same increased blood flow to the lower limbs. The RRB legflow™ during trials and subsequent medical approval, was shown to increase blood flow over 10-fold (10.9-fold to be exact) whilst the user is sedentary, this increase is vital. Other products were researched by the MRINZ, and none came anywhere near the increase needed to prevent DVT.
@altustalent410
@altustalent410 2 жыл бұрын
@@rbractive6588 I don't believe that a simple ball with similar protrusions wouldn't create the same effect once stabilised or even a significantly greater effect since a ball is a whole sphere which would allow for greater range of motion where plantar flexion is concerned. In order to replicate your product, one need only to produce two halves from a single ball and place them on a stable surface. This seems quite easy to replicate with very base intellect.
@rbractive6588
@rbractive6588 2 жыл бұрын
@@altustalent410 I once said, that if we didn't have the clinical research, clinical trials, medical proof and approval from the MHRA, then, yes, it could be replicated. That said, I've also always said (and was on the Dragons' Den - pre edit) I said, "if anyone wants to copy this, and I know they will, then go ahead. But would reputable airlines, care homes, the NHS, businesses, gamers etc, use a product without the clinical research, trials, medical proof and MHRA approval? In all honesty with you, and that's all I've ever wanted with this, is to raise awareness of Thrombosis, DVT's and I know, what we have here can prevent this.
@altustalent410
@altustalent410 2 жыл бұрын
@@rbractive6588 Indeed however the same can be applied to what I've suggested to produce the same result with even greater range of motion, furthermore the additional benefit of having a ball means rolling it backwards and forwards creates movement for your knee as well thus increasing benefit for blood circulation whilst seated. The study itself doesn't necessarily concern the product but rather a movement created from it, which as I said can be performed on a simple ball or two hemispheres.

Hi Jarednil69, when we filmed (which too nearly 2 hours) I did talk about Thrombosis, and the signs to be aware of, I think that maybe when they edited the recording, they must have edited this out. I talked about our campaign seekHELP H - heat E - excessive redness L - localised swelling P - pain I also talked about the wonderful campaign by the National Blood Clot Alliance - Stop the Clot

@@jarednil69 Will always reply. The whole experience was surreal, but amazing. All I wanted to do was raise awareness as much as I could.

our research shows that by just moving the feet alone doesn't actually increase blood-flow whilst sedentary. People for too long have been led to believe that flight socks are the solution to preventing flight associated DVT's, but the research by the Imperial College (NHS) London, put pays to this, in fact graduated compression stockings (flight socks) in fact have no clinical or medical benefit (pre or post procedures), and in fact, in over 85% of times, users are in fact causing more issues than they ever thought. The RBR legflow™is incredibly light-weight, easy to use, and most importantly the research and trials prove that there is over a 10-fold increase in blood-flow whilst the user is sedentary.

Wasn't really her area of expertise sadly.But I do believe her sister is making good use of the sample RBR legflow™ that was in the box by the Dragons' seat.
