Thanks for reacting to my video that was awesome! I'm a 25 year old engineering student from Sweden, I'm currently doing my master's degree in machine learning. If I could go back and coach little 14 year old me I am convinced I could've reached chall so much faster! That's partly why I'm so interested in coaching. To answer Curtis's question, I am a big advocate of reviewing before your next block. Becuase you're less emotionally attached, it's a great mental warm-up and you can apply the learnings right away.

@@haroentmimi Yeah that and I would also say I've effectivized my study a ton. I've learned to cut a lot of time by focusing my attention at the right stuff. E.g I almost never go to lectures anymore, which has saved me a lot of travel time since I live far away from campus. I personally get a lot more bang for my buck by going through the lecture slides on my own. With that said there have been times where I've put league to the side for a week or two.

League has taught me so much about how to handle adversity and how to stay creative & motivated. I don't nearly play as much, but I apply everything competitive esports have brought me in my everyday life. I treat my college classes just like ranked games.

any advice for this? i’ve been trying to apply these concepts to my classes but i feel like the reason why it’s easier to do for video games is that there are already defined goals and methods for reaching those goals. everything related to academics feels nebulous in comparison.

@@eebbaa5560 Well, one way I see it is ; "I used to not know how to play Gangplank, I practiced and now I can pull off the combos". It's the the same for academia. Sure it'll be nebulous if your goal is "I want to have good marks", it's the the same as "I want to be high elo"... okay well, maybe your goal should be cultivating the attitude and work necessary to get there. A.k.a., now I welcome a learning challenge, I know it's normal to suck at first, and I know with practice I'll get to champion mastery/know the class matter. Also, one thing I learnt playing ranked is "Never surrender", that's a mentality you can apply to everything in life. Never surrender, only losers do that (it is mathematically impossible for surrendering to be a better odd than playing it out.) Just knowing that even though I can suck for hundreds of games, I'll eventually get the hang of it, and knowing never to surrender is getting me some place in life. After that there is like... "owning up to your mistakes" and always trying to figure out how YOU can be better. I learnt not to blame my teammates or outside circumstances. I learnt to cultivate passion about my champion/course matter. I learnt that it was okay to be humble and ask questions and seek help from those who master their champ/master the course. Most important is cultivating the right attitude and putting in the time, I learnt this with League and it'll help me with everything in life. Glhf :)

I gotta disagree about the "just CS" take. When I started out, I was overly focused on landing abilities on the opponent, it never even crossed my mind to use abilities on the wave until my mate told me how important the gold was. When you get the feeling of being ahead of your opponent in items as a new player, it's a game changer!

As far as comms go, soloque is not a team game. We are competing for a spot on the ladder. You need to work with your current team, but it is in reality 1 v 9
@SiMeGamer
@SiMeGamer Жыл бұрын
That's just a flawed perspective. Your teammates have the same goal as you - win the match. You have an incentive to work together as a team. You are not playing against 4 other players in addition to the enemy team. You don't have 4 people trying to sabotage and make the game harder. I can promise you that if we open your match replays, we'll find out that you contribute just as much to the losses as your teammates and make mistakes, and that goes for the enemy team as well. Solo queue is a team game. A comms are important. Accepting and sharing information is crucial to increasing your chances of winning. I play with and against people of all skill levels (literally from Iron to Challenger) and comms play a role in every game. Also, you don't compete against people on the ladder. That's just a placement. The people on the ladder are not your enemies. They are your rivals at best and good rivals try to get better together and beat each other at the top. Last I checked, my friends, when we play on Discord, listen more to pings than to our actual voices. Because if you ping while in voice or in addition to it, it means it's probably important. And this is honestly sad to see. In solo queue when I type or ping dragon coming up in 46 seconds, I have more feedback that with my friends on comms because they expect miracles due to us being premade and having said comms. Like that will magically work itself out. There is no thinking. You are waiting to be micro managed which is not the point of communication in a strategy game (for the most part). Voice comms literally makes my team play worse because there is over reliance on it and nebulous expectations of it can accomplish in a utopia. Last I checked when pros play, their communication is so messy and it's all strategy. Everyone still looks at the map and everyone still pings endlessly. Looks at pro vods and it's littered with pings all game. 40 minutes of nonstop pinging at the highest level when they can speak to one another and even actually understand what they mean because they are fking pros. "1 v 9" is a very toxic concept because it is fundamentally untrue. The only place I can see this in is actually in casual modes when 4 premade just ruin the game for their 5th on purpose because they are a bunch of assholes.

***comment about the pings*** I agree with both of you that these pings are very useful, BUT, if i were to play devils advocate, the issue with the strategy to "mute" some one once they mass ping you in an abusing way, is that in most case the PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE is already done. So yes they can mute, but for most people, they are already tilted (or whatever the emotion is) from the mass ping. A lot of people would rather that they actually don't have to mute toxic pings almost every game. As i said in my other comment, I now pla y jungle in low plat (and normally i'm a diamond player, hit D1 last season), and the amount of toxic pings I get a jungler (because I don,t wanna gank a bad or ungankable lane, because i dont want to do a drake that is bad/not our, or any other toxic ping) is crazy. I would say it's 8 games out of 10. I had to learn to mute pings as a jungler in plat elo in NA. But honestly, it's draining, you constantly have to monitor who is worth muting or not (their pings). SOOOOO, should the players learn to be mentally resistant, mute toxic players, and learn not to let it affect them? Probably yes. But it's not something you can achieve just like that I will say though, the idea riot had to restrict player from playing is great. If their was a way to monitor toxic pings, and people would get ban for a few games for it, that would be great. that way we could maybe keep the pings like it was before, and the player who use pings in a toxic way just wouldnt be in the games at all, restricted from playing for a while. Once they can play again, they can use pings again. (that way every one can use pings when they are in the game). Because yes, in the long run, I also use the pings we now don't have in a very specific useful way and I do miss them. But I can already see I have less toxicity in my games. So we would need somekind of solution here, to better the toxicity, but keep the pings. Stay strong y'all!

As someone who's been playing Elise since season 6, Elise does scale. The narrative that Elise doesn't scale stayed since those early days where she would build tank because jungle was a low income role post 20 minutes. Her damage scales REALLY well into the late game, but she's much more difficult to play the later the game goes. Because all of her damage is single target (except human w), she's not a good teamfighter, so the best way to play her is try and isolate and create small 1v1s or 2v2s in bigger teamfights where you can burst one enemy at a time. But if you catch anyone at 45 minutes, they will disappear from the map
@JonathanSaxon
@JonathanSaxon Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately these guys can make simplistic statements which don't capture the full reality. If Elise combos anything fragile it dies late game! How is that not a useful to have a on a team!
@Pyrrha_Nikos
@Pyrrha_Nikos Жыл бұрын
@@JonathanSaxon Even if she combos high hp targets, she has %hp damage on both qs (current on human and missing in spider), she easily does 90% of a bruiser's hp in her combo. The problem is that she only does 90% or 100% of one person's hp. In a teamfight, that makes it a 4v4 because she doesn't do much until her cooldowns are back up. It's not easy to play her in late game fights, that's why she "falls off". It's not her damage, but she becomes much more difficult to execute in big 5v5 teamfights

I totally disagree with the dismissal of voice comms, I think that 10 years of NOT having voice comms has built the toxicity in league that is not as bad as in dota (I'm around diamond in dota2 playing 10 years on and off, around low emerald in league 1 year in). What causes toxicity in large part is MISINTERPRETATION and MISCOMMUNICATION, people get angry because they thought they were communicating to do x and someone misinterpreted that as something else, such as pinging on my way, that means i'm coming to you but if you spam ping it someone might think they want you to start the fight right now or something. the capacity to communicate exactly what you want through a ping is much less than communicating through voice. Voice comms would allow for a higher level of play in solo queue, at least among people who don't get insta muted for toxicity like they currently do in text anyway. Another thing that league should copy from dota is the behaviour score system, where high behaviour score people are more likely to be queued with high behaviour score people, and even if they do get lower behaviour score teammates, the low beaviour score peoples access to voice chat and pings gets disabled by default, until they reach a higher behaviour score (it would be around honour level 4). IF they added voice comms, they would obviously have an option to mute voices by default, so why would you be against it? What Riot is doing isn't working, give it a chance.

I have some unique prospective on this matter I think you two will appreciate. I was essentially a "Pro / Challenger" equivalent of a World of Warcaft player within that game. Any changes that they made that negatively impacted some of the beautiful intricacies and complexity of what made high mmr gameplay what it was, ended up destroying the community and has ruined what that game represented. This change is extremely negative. Blizzard tried to make the same types of changes and while they and Riot were trying to do something positive, all they did was snuff out the light at the end of the tunnel. Riot is not only letting down their general player base by removing a very impactful, useful and highly utilized functionality, they're letting down guys who are literally dedicating their lives to this game. The sacrifice the professional community makes should be prioritized because they represent the essence of what this game is and what we as gamers strive toward. Maintain the integrity of this game which I assure you they love in a very real way. They live for this. I watched it happen to World of Warcraft and it killed me inside experiencing it. Pinging team mates skill CDs and item CDs then caution, danger or all in pinging a fight or objective is one of the most useful forms of communication and usually is about some of the most critical times in ranked gameplay. This change is a problem. Any systemic changes that have a negative impact on the utilized complexity of the game and reduce the skill ceiling that set the best players apart from the masses will slowly destroy the value of what it will mean to be a "Challenger" or simply to develop the skill of being good at League of Legends. As individuals, there is no justifiable reason to invest the time in anything in a serious way unless it is valuable or is recognized as valuable. If you want to cater to the masses, this is one of if not the most important thing to understand about any competitive game. Look into the eyes of some of these young men who's entire life goals, sense of confidence, and accomplishment comes from the success they have earned through their sacrifices investing in this game. These kids kill themselves to have the opportunity to play on a pro team or to achieve high elo ranks and put their lives, careers, relationships, and more on the line for a chance to achieve these things at times because sometimes that's what it takes to be successful at anything.

If there is a removal of skill elements and a dumbing down of the skill ceiling then you can demonstrate that and give examples. In most aspects of the game it’s not really true. Champion designs are getting more complex, where in older league basically everything was braindead point and click damage and cc. Veigar Q now being a skill shot for instance. Compare yone/yas/azir/irelia/akali (as much as i hate the champs) to the mind numbing designs of older champs and versions. Almost all reworks has had added complexity. Macro is becoming more complicated with the addition of the Herald, platings, updated drakes, and elder buff. The only thing the game had before aside from baron was the wack 150 gold drake. The only thing that I can think of that removed complexity was the pet/camp range changes. They basically blatantly removed the most difficult techs of clearing. (Don’t agree with this change). I can’t speak for Wow, but the reason you (and all other league players) talk about old league with fondness like this is because of nostalgia and just old=good, new=bad. Something that’s always existed in all of history. We’ve gone tired of the game and the magic went away. The reality is that old league was absolute trash. No remakes, no roles so every select was a fight with teammates, no pings, horrible ward system, support role was trash, looked awful, objectives sucked, the balance is rough now but balancing in older seasons were borderline unplayable (kassadin). Runes were awful, literally just stats with no creativity, masteries did nothing. Same goes complexity. Being challanger now is not less impressive than it used to be, it’s more impressive now considering how competitive the game has become. It’s all feelings with no logical backing.

**Take the time to read even though it's a bit long y'all!** This episode really resonated with me. Especially, the fact each of our quest is our own. We don't need to justify it to other's. Some one is always going to look down on your journey, it's not worth putting energy into the views of others. To be more specific, I used to be a plat adc (S1 to S4) then up to diamond with support (S5 to S11). S12 I kinda went all around and tried a lot of shen mid and top (went diamond). But i'm realising my favorite role is the one i'm least good at. So I started playing on an alt account to train on jungle (and to not troll the players on my emerald/diamond account). And I'm so much worst at jungle. I'm currently just about to hit low plat and it would be so easy to want to go back to the other roles i'm better at, because of the views of others on my rank. But play what you like, what you'll be happy with. Their's no point in climbing if it doesn't make you happy in the long run. Do your own quest every one!! GL out there!

I wasn't satisfied just hitting Emerald. Hitting Emerald in my first 18 months of playing League tickles my ego, but it doesn't actually satisfy me. The satisfaction I gain from League hasn't been from hitting x rank, it's been from notably improving. It's been from making an amazing play to bring my team the win. My satisfaction with League really just comes down to great play, and great play comes from great fundamentals, basics, and processes. That's how it's been in every game I've played and made achievements in

I agree with nathan and curtis on a lot of things, but you guys make yourselves look like complete morons by being against voice chat. It will "ruin the competitive integrity of the game"??? give me a break. Every single other competitive online game (r6, dota, cs, valorant) has built in voice chat and those games aren't ruined by any stretch. In fact, when I talk to friends who play those games primarily, that they can't even IMAGINE how you're supposed to play without it. League is an incredibly complex and TEAMWORK based game happening in real time. The fact that you can't even talk to your teammates about what you want to do is insane as is. No chat and pings are not good enough. If you ever played other competitive games you'd know that voice is not the boogyman you think it is. I've played hundreds of hours of CS and valorant and 99% of my interactions in voice chat are helpful and friendly. Voice chat makes the game better because it is so much easier to communicate and work as a team, and there is so much less frustration because of miscommunication and misperseption. Voice chat would make playing league SO MUCH less frustrating just by virtue of being able to get on the same page with your teammates. Voice chat would also make soloq closer to ranked 5's, which is the best version of the game. It would raise the level across the board and I find it so weird that you two would be anti voice when the rest of the time you are pro-anything that makes the game more competitive. Speaking to your team in a TEAM GAME should have been an expectation from the very start, the fact its gone this long without it has bred a certain attitude in this community that needs to be ripped off like a bandaid. This isn't a single player RPG, communication matters. There are far too many people that treat league like a single player game and think they are the protagonist. How can you get people to be better teammates and have better team sense? VOICE CHAT! The irony I'm sure is lost on you both when you spend a whole segment complaining about the removal of pings (communication tools) then decry another better form of communication for the next 5 minutes. You're wrong, simply. Voice chat would make the game more competitive, less chaotic and less toxic.

I have 3k hours into dota and har disagree with your take on voice comes, directly hearing someone being an asswipe on comms is a very quick way to get muted. Also muting pings in dota only gets the audio of the ping muted you can still see what is being pinged (there's also 0 delay in map pings) but people in dota don't "abuse pings" like league, I'd argue ping harassment in league is a purely manufactured issue. A toxic player is going to be toxic regardless, be it flaming in voice coms, text chat, spam pings, if all of these get removed they just soft int games since its much harder to detect by an automated system.

Although I do agree with the hypothesis and probable stats Riot have that the ally pings are primarily misused for toxicity by the majority of the population, there are definitely still ways to allow most of the good actors to have access to the tool while still barring it from the majority of the bad actors. Maybe allow the pings to be Team Global and no longer Self only once you reach Emerald or Diamond? This would even add a "Ranked Reward" for people looking to get competitive with the game in Ranked. Or heck even just allowing Ally Pings to be Team Global in Ranked probably solves most of the issue already. I noticed most of my friends didn't mind the change, but I realized the reason was because it really didn't affect them. They don't use the pings because they mostly play casual queues (ARAM) or 5 man VC queues exclusively. And I quote, "Whenever I see Ally Pings it typically is for just flaming anyway." Which would make sense because there's nothing meaningful to be communicated in ARAM and casuals generally flame more than the higher ELO community. Having certain communication options only available in Ranked would add more incentive for people who are trying to get more competitive with the game to queue into Ranked as well. It just seems like a win-win, but Riot have just gone for a lazy blanket change this time.

I disagree with the direction riot is taking towards toxicity. Its a classic aggresive strategy: they are toxic, we limit their options, problem solved. The reality though is that it won't solve the problem, just hide it under the blanket. I think riot could keep this type of posture, but at the same time try to solve the problem as you guys do, by introducing systems that encourage patience and self-awareness and admitting to mistakes. The game is way too obscure about how to play and improve at it, yet it has a very competitive and addictive ranked system, which is inherently a recipe for disaster. There is no "soloq contract" in the game, nor anything that will prepare you for ranked.

I don't think reserving pings for players who have never been chat restricted is a good idea. Chat restriction system is in a very bad place right now. The only solution to the toxicity problem is to put more effort into reviewing games and punishing toxic gameplay, which goes almost completely unpunished as of late. Until this issue is addressed, the toxicity will remain a big problem in league. Solutions like turning up chat restriction sensitivity or disabling pings are rudimentary band-aids, that only cause harm, while failing to address the real issue at its core.

On the tik tok mail, unfortunately i dont think you guys understand that tik tok is an algorithmic platform, not one that relies heavily on "searches". Therefore a large part of the audience for league tik toks could be those unranked, simply because tik tok has figured out they play league. I'd be really interested to see if tik toks that focused on small actionable advice, such as "look at which minion is dying first" would gain any traction on the platform. It may be that the tik toks that say "just focus on csing" are springboards for people to search for more actionable advice and tik tok isnt the place for learning that.

My initial reaction to the ping change was that it was good. I've recently gotten a friend into league and had to explain to them why they were getting spam pinged in games. They couldn't wrap their head around what their team was trying to communicate, and I had to say "they're just mad that you died, you should mute/ignore them". Of course they didn't because they are naive about the long term effects and I've slowly had to watch them get more sucked in to the toxic aspects of league... I also immediately noticed the difference in my games as my brain has become trained to expect to get spam pinged after bad plays. I literally hear the pings in my head when my gragas presses r while I'm off screen or stunned as yasuo and can't ult. On the other hand, after a few games I noticed that I couldn't communicate as effectively without the pings. Personally I play with chat completely off because pings are enough. The more options for pinging the better the communication can be. I think Riot needs to come back and make another change, but I am fundamentally on board with this change. The more Riot iterates, the better league will become, even if we face drawbacks along the way.

I played with an Ashe on my team and she always wanted to ult mid, so when I had a good opportunity I'd ping her R+Assist and it took me a minute to see that she could not see my pings LOL terrible change imo I had to type "ashe ult mid" and then she would do it

I think they could have just given these pings a max of 2-3 instances before going on an individual cooldown for each of them respectively. The same thing would be nice for the ping wheel as well, sometimes you just run out of pings and I cant ping the ward for my 5 gold :(. Also Only allow pinging active items and Guardian Angle.

Amazing episode as always! I can empathize with curtis, as a support player I often find myself after games thinking "why do I have to play perfectly" and then the bad narratives such as switching champs start to kick in. I'm doing better fighting it off but it's one of my current "side quests" lol. It really does boil down to knowing and accepting I cannot win every game no matter how well i play, and being comfortable with my champions strengths and weaknesses to allow me to think bigger picture about my role, how we win the game, what does the enemy want, etc.

Will you react to PekinWoof's midlane offmeta climb to Challenger? He did an AMA on League of Legends subreddit with tons of great answers to questions! His most played or best champs were Warwick, Lillia, Kogmaw, and Briar mid! Here's an example of his reply to the question, "what do you do when you fall behind?" "But to be completely honest the easiest way win games is to never fall behind in the first place. Play towards your goals as a Champion while trying to deny the enemy their own and outplay. Try to reset correctly to not lose much CS, and roam to create numbers for your team "

He seems to be a player similar to MagiFelix, who understands the game at an intricate level, and can upon a few games on a champion realize how to win on League of Legends with them.

Another question: "Congrats on reaching Challenger, PekinWoof! Off-meta picks can be fun to watch but do you think they're actually viable in high elo? Also, any tips for climbing with unconventional champs?" Reply: "Viability is a weird word, I mean I did get to Challenger with them, so I suppose they are viable? But is it easier to climb using on-meta? Yes definitely like 99% of the time. Climbing on unconventional picks is mostly just working towards the goals of the champion (I am big on that focus). AP Chogath -> Just land your Q a few times and you will win. AP Kogmaw -> E + W auto trades very early because dueling power is nuts. Can play aggro the whole game tbh because his R deals a lot on low CD Briar Mid -> play safe till you are 3 then do short trades till they are low, W is missing HP % so you can kill if they are below half after that point. Basically to me every champion has a way to be played, just do it right and you can climb to masters on anything easily. Past that point is hard"

About the pings - I'm emerald 1 ATM, and I cannot even recall the last time I saw someone use allies pings properly and see them used to flame on an almost every game basis so I'm on board with this change. However, I 100% agree that it's bad to remove this communication tool and it's not targeting the problem directly only a symptom of it. I absolutely love the idea of using the honor system to have players pings(allies pings, not regular pings) enabled or disabled I think it could remove a lot of the toxicity coming from them, however people can't get banned or punished for using pings badly so even an honor 5 could flame with pings every single game and never type and he'd be allowed to use them. There's always 2 sides obviously but I like this direction, could be interesting to look into for Riot. The honor system is not used enough currently.

the reward system is heading to a right direction with more splits (3 skins per year) to reward consistent players, and i think the Malzahar skin last season (for honor 5 players) is a good start. love to see more incentives to play well and try to win hard games, instead of fruitlessly banning "inters" when they are going to spend a dollar or two to get another bot-levelled account and head to ranked, let alone the biggest problem which is players just giving up and mentally check-out whenever a small inconvenience happens.

You guys came into my que at just the right time! I am a Wild Rift player, had played League PC since beta before I couldn't stand the toxicity. Last season in WR I was able to get Master, also getting rank 30 on Lucian in NA. This was my absolute peak and something I'm proud of. But this season has been a really tough climb - mainly from what I can tell is the way I've been able to climb thus far. It is a couple wins, a loss, a win, a couple losses, a few wins, and so on. However, scattered in are long loss streaks, which devastate my mental and make it really difficult for me to even want to climb anymore. I recently found your content and it has helped me tremendously, if not climb, at least it has created a better understanding and reason to enjoy losing. You learn and grow as a player. Anyways, I think you guys should look into Wild Rift, as most if not all of your content applies and I think that there is still a huge lack of Wild Rift content on KZbin. Cheers 🥂

I completely understand Nathan's point on pings not being restricted but I would prefer it be based on having a certain honor level (preferably lower the better of course) than not having it at all. If Riot want to make this change based on the majority like Curtis was saying then at least make it be based on honor level 2 or w/e. And the thing about voice comms, you guys might just be more afraid of it because it's an unknown. I've been playing dota lately and they do have it over there and it seems fine. I don't see people complain about it anywhere but I don't have enough experience to really have an opinion about it myself personally. People rarely even use it in my games but when they do it doesn't seem to be used in a way that tries to control what everyone is doing or anything, just quick information generally and sometimes complaining.

I've been playing league since beta, I've done a spreadsheet, document, data aggregation multiple times to improve and I always found immense enjoymnet in the process. I never managed to reach challenger because at a certain point all of this joy vanishes and I just realised the reason for that is because I never had anyone to share with. Thanks to you, and this community I now finally have the ultimate motivation. Thank you so much

I think that Tik Tok comment is completely incorrect, and is coming from the perspective of someone who is not in the MLS. The program is very good and genuinely can be very helpful to anyone who plays League. I think Coach Curtis has an extremely good understanding of low elo players, to the extent that the ecosystem he created is probably one of the easiest and healthiest ways to climb and learn. There is a difference between a tutorial and what you want from coaches IMO, and 99% of players would waste time if entire programs had to include information about League that can be gathered extremely quickly in a couple of games. I have friends that are genuinely in iron, and they would very easily understand and apply the information that Curtis has to offer. The comment seems to come from a perspective of someone who thinks coaching low elo is explaining the game to someone who has never played before, not just sub level 30 players or bronze players.

i’m a perennial silver player (never been gold) and i have pretty good game knowledge in terms of what champions and items do and my mechanics are decent (in general, but i have been one tricking this split), but i feel as though i’ve never been able to break through the wall to get to higher-level decision making in game. i’ve been playing the game on and off for years now but that’s really the one thing i feel like i don’t know how to improve at. i feel like i’m in an abnormal situation and wish i were just hardstuck iron or something so i’d have a discernible reason for being bad at the game. i kind of just feel like there’s something with me that i’m not sure how to fix. anyway the reason i mention this is because i feel like there’s a sort of dead zone in coach curtis’ content for players like me; the advice he gives is either for higher-level players trying to push to master+ or legitimate beginners who just don’t know anything about the game. in two of the case studies where he and nathan analyzed the hardstuck silver player on malzahar that guy didn’t understand how to make basic decisions on one of the clearest reference points champions in the game. the mistakes he was making in his gameplay were just super basic. as for the 40k games gold akshan player that guy played like a million different champions and was completely deluded on the concept of skill and improvement in general. he made completely irrational statements such as the fact that he believed he was similar in skill to the average challenger player yet in game he didn’t even grasp the concept of prioritizing exp and levels. i feel like after watching both broken by concept and investigating other sources for learning about the game i’ve only made slight improvements in my gameplay and i haven’t even seen results in my rank (which i know i shouldn’t focus on but it is a reasonable metric for measuring these things). anyway, the point is that in spite of their skill as coaches and educational content creators, i feel like there’s a niche for low elo players like me that isn’t covered by the broken by concept podcast. while my own personal failings that have prevented me from climbing, i just wanted to give my perspective as someone who has sort of “slipped through the cracks” as it were.

@@eebbaa5560 To be clear, I do not think the Broken by Concept podcast is a replacement for coaching. I think that if you actually want coaching and you want that niche filled, there is no true replacement for actual 1 on 1 coaching. However, the niche you are talking about is actually filled by the MLS program. The podcast itself is more a discussion on mentality and aspects of motivation, rather than a way to rank up by itself.

@@VeryUnderQualified yeah that makes sense. i think this is a good system i don't mean to externalize any blame onto the podcast i was just making a point. i've considered coaching but i also don't feel ready to make the commitment of actually paying money for it. i feel like i still haven't fully decided what this game means to me and how seriously i want to take it going forward. i also want to see how far i can get on my own. obviously guidance would be helpful, but i feel like i should be able to get to at least gold before hitting an actual wall or there might be something wrong with me. i've been watching broken by concept for about a year or so now, but this split is the first time i've ever actually tried applying the methods and i assume i simply don't have enough games to have seen results yet. so, if i'm still playing by next split and i'm still unsatisfied with my progress then i'll probably opt to go for the coaching route.

@@eebbaa5560 Trying to do things yourself is 100% cool if that's what you want. However, it is important to keep in mind that most people in League have hundreds if not thousands of hours in game. No one is really on equal footing, and we are constantly competing against each other.For my coaching in the past, I have done it because it feels like a way to get ahead of the competition if that makes sense. Coaching does feel like cheating since I can skip many hours of work to learn lessons I had been looking over, so I do see where you are coming from. However, coaches don't actually do the work for you, that has to be you.

@@eebbaa5560considering your intention of doing it on your own, do you mind others watching your match replays? Because for most people, all you will need is someone with time and care to just give it a look and point out mistakes and after a few replays a pattern emerges - the lower you are, the clearer the pattern usually. I helped many friends improve at League by looking at their replays with them and asking them questions and finding out patterns. - One was unwilling to take a small win (he burns someone's Flash but then Flashes after them to try and secure a low percentage kill which ultimately fks them over later). - One was jungling and never looked at his lanes when farming his camps, so he had no clue before gank what the state of health and abilities the enemy had. - One was misusing one of his core abilities in almost every fight without realizing it (bad CC layering on his champ). etc, etc. I'm not too high rank of a player. I'm high Diamond low Master support main and I helped my friends who all play various different champs and roles because as a more experienced player overall, I could lend my insight. It's not hard to find a mistake. But it is hard to find a pattern without asking the right questions and how to fix them. They still have a long way to go but they all improved and they enjoy the game a lot more for that reason. It feels good to play well and against better players. So my recommendation is to record your matches (not use the replay system in the client) and upload them to KZbin. Do a block of 3 games on the same champion in the same role and then ask someone to review it. Heck, I'd be more than happy to do it myself if you like. My friends helped me with my replays too. Having a fresh perspective prompts you to ask different questions and I love doing that. We play matches together and sometimes watch a replays and analyze everyone's play. It's awesome. It makes each match so much more than the in-the-moment experience. We also inspire each other to play each others champs which helps us synergize better because we understand how they work a lot more intimately. In short: Have somebody else look at your replays and find the most egregious pattern. Even if their analysis is flawed, you can take it further and have a better idea how to interpret the decisions that lead to those mistakes. I know for a fact you can reach Gold. I'll say that it is guaranteed by the end of the split if you are willing to accept a little bit of help. Good luck on the rift!!
