Before I get into the podcast episode which I KNOW is a certified banger, I want to thank y'all for the teachings and learnings as it's probably saved my elo. College let out for summer break about 3 weeks ago, and I had to go back home. At college I had a schedule where I could do school work, go to the gym, and get my 3 block + review in very easily. That is no longer the case. At home, I'm working with my dad at his tree service business for a summer job, which is very physically demanding and exhausting. We work usually 10-12 hours, getting up early and coming home late. After coming home and getting a quick shower, I must head off to the gym. After coming back I shower again and eat if I havent already, and by that time it's usually around 9-10 p.m. Rest is very important for the job as sleep deprivation can be very dangerous since we are around heavy machinery and falling limbs, so I do not have enough time to play a full block with review and still get decent sleep. On top of this, even if I just played one game, there is a high chance that I will disconnect frequently or lag so bad I do more harm than good. We live in a very dense wooded area in an old neighborhood, so the wifi is very spotty. I know I would be extremely frustrated if the only game I got to play that day I lagged out and wasn't able to participate. So that's why I decided this summer I would focus on a different variety of games- namely fighting games. For the past 11 years, I've basically grinded just league telling myself I could not big breaks because I not a talented player and needed to work harder than the average player. Old me last summer would have played regardless, lost sleep and LP and would pay the consequences for it in the morning. But now, even though I felt like I was on a roll before school let out hitting mid p3, I am putting the grind on hold. League isn't going anywhere, and I will still have time after the summer to try and push further this season. I can play these other competitive games and not care too much about winning or losing because they aren't my main game. Actually, I even see this as a way to train my mind better for league. To take your guys' teachings to other games, and hone my weak areas with the fundamental thinking. I can already think of some that will be great to improve at while playing fighting games (mental stack, saying NO to plays, playing for improvement and not rank, etc.) Anyways guys thanks for saving my LP and stopping me from doing a potentially season ruining mistake, and who knows maybe I'll write about how the BBC concepts follow into fighting games when I'm done!

good on you for figuring out a plan that works, and it's good that you realized your summers are what we would call an "impossible situation," that you can't have everything you want. as someone who is graduating university in 2 weeks, i support your decision. dont touch league, and just appreciate your summers for what they are.

good on you man, I have adhd so I struggled very hard to not fall into the trap of sleep deprivation just so I could play after work. I actually ended up burning out of my former job because of it. the BBC definitely teaching me its about quality and not quantity

I need to thank you both so, so, so, so, so much. Curtis helped me with the videos to develop my skills, but I still couldn't get past platinum, which I've been stuck at for 5 years. After I started listening to the podcast, I realized that my biggest problem was the narratives, and you guys helped me so so so so much in this aspect. I just finished my promotion, and I am at diamond now but I think this is just the beggining of this journey as a new player. THANK YOU! You are truly the best

I have wasted too much time arguing about tier lists and items. Thanks for talking about those subjects. I've noticed 80% of discussion on league is items/builds, very rarely is it about specific matchup information, or specific fight information etc.

The end of this episode really inspired me to create a solo queue journal. I'm new to LoL, my background is in FPS, and I'm still unranked; but I feel like I'm ready to give ranked a crack after absorbing your teachings. I think documenting this experience would be hugely beneficial. And who knows, maybe I can share that with others finding themselves in my current situation down the road.

I honestly think annie is a big example of this too. Like some people just buy sweeper almost every single game and play annie like rengar. Waiting for someone to get zoned by this shady bush, or just completely murder them when they get near it. Getting the wildest picks no one will ever expect by hiding in certain pockets you can't see. And other people play her more in this side laning duelist style, where they might even pick annie toplane. Getting some solo kills in certain matchups because people don't expect some element of her playstyle thinking it's just an annie. And then other annies might only care about the team fights, they just farm up all the time and never stop farming because every game they win they get that 3 man tibbers. That will just wreck everyone. None of these playstyles is invalid, you can go all the way up to GM with these, and mix and match all you want. But technically one might be better than the other depending on the meta. Doesn't mean you can't play annie in these different styles. And that every annie main has like their whole own identity in this regard.

i like this concept, i’ve found it myself recently, the buffs to triforce have shifted Camille players to value it over sunderer and take conquerer. but it just doesn’t work for me, i don’t enjoy the play style, so i went back to grasp and DS and hit my all time solo peak. i’m glad to hear this podcast and see that it’s not just me

I just wanted to chime in on Style v Meta: I'm a Kai'Sa one trick, this season I decided as an experiment I would make a new account and play ONLY Jungle Kai'Sa. It was rough at first and the latest item changes took me about 10 games of mostly losing to figure out, but I'm currently hitting an ~80% win rate playing my own style in something completely off meta. I've made a playlist of some of my games with super chill commentary ( kzbin.info/aero/PLvTzlTpTWM2uz8332Hst4TZ2U1r4A2cSY ), you can be good at and climb with anything if you put in the time.

@@lachiemunro7 Currently trying for Plat before end of season. Hit G1 80LP but then got a loss streak. The main requirement is at least one of your lanes needs to win and you need at least one team mate with synergy to stack your passive. 3 losing lanes you get shoved out of your jungle too early and can't scale. But that is true with any non-tank pick really.

My own style is Soraka Top and occasionally i do talk with a high Diamond Korean player that also plays Soraka Top and has gotten Masters in season 9 with it in Korea before he had to stop playing for a bit because mandated military service for those past a certain age then he just decayed down and ended the season in Diamond 1. And while he is not playing this season due to job searching and the few games he did play while in free time he did tell me he preferred Ionian boots rush into Rod of Ages with Moonstone being 3rd item like Boots > Rod > Moonstone. The keystone is Aery and secondary runes being Triple tonic and Biscuits with the biggest change being instead of TP and flash you take flash and barrier or exhaust, and yes you may have already noticed this is a skirmishing build and page as Koreans love fighting and it is actually pretty good The rest of the build are up to your imagination but I prefer Ardent, Redemption, and Echoes of Helia as the last item. And as you may have noticed the full build is like support price as in very cheap 12.5k gold with a total being 12,950g accounting for starting item or even 13kg if ya want a pot as well, if ya confident in not needing it you can skip health pot at the start and be 50g faster to your build Now i like Dblade as a starting item simply because it makes CSing way more easy than Dshield or Dring that only gives you 5 extra damage to minions on hit plus you get 3.5% life steal so even more healing ontop of the Q spam you will be doing as you max Q first plus early on with Ionian boots rushing will give ya a lot of Ability Haste so your Q's will be a constant 3-2 seconds of a cd during lane phase A common matchup you will see a lot in low elo or normal games which ever you wanna do this in is Darius Top, no one expects the Soraka Top and Soraka hard counters Darius as his wave clear is not that great as Soraka can even just E him so he can't swing his axe while in it. The worst part for him is realistically there should be no way he should be able to get to Soraka without taking Ghost AND Flash but even then he will not know it is a Soraka Top as Soraka is played in the bot lane a lot so Darius players accidently counters themselves by picking Darius into you. And the enemy Support could accidently end up getting themselves countered by picking Blitz as then our support can just counter pick the Blitz which then and ONLY then it would show or should show in their heads "Shit that's a Soraka Top". This has actually happened in my games more often than you would believe before and after season 10 patch 10.4 where Soraka has gotten a giga nerf to her sustain as by then the Soraka Top meta has taken over the entirety of the rift with a 70% win rate as NO ONE RUSHED OR TOOK EXE when facing a Soraka Top so she dominated and could face tank. Seriously i was told often that if a meta like Soraka Top ever happened then everyone on the rift would be rushing Exe so the meta would die within a week, guess what everyone forgot existed during that time despite the pushback i was still getting by telling people Soraka Top was meta during those times? Honestly what i notice is the Majority of League players will say they would do or one thing will happen but they end up doing the complete opposite Now in the case of them getting tired of not being able to kill you and tired of you slow pushing a giant ass wave into their tower and their jungler not helping -(because who in their right mind would gank a Soraka Top it's a waste of time as she will either have the river warded and will back away when she sees the jungler coming or you just can't kill her as she is good in most 1v1's)- you have two options consider your choices wisely Option 1: Keep the river well warded and take the tower as you can correct at least one fuckup a teammate does and have them not die to enemy top laner. Then perma roam snowballing your team Option 2: Follow them and make sure your team don't feed the roaming or lane swapping enemy top. Last thing you need is a fed Darius or Garen in the game as an example If you are low elo odds are you might as well just follow and try to prevent the enemy top laner from getting fed off of your team, and if they lane swap you lane swap as if it is a Garen Top you are facing and he lane swaps with the enemy mid laner because he can't kill you then he is going to kill your team if you do not lane swap as well during the middle of the game. That is a mistake i had to learn the hard way from, to reiterate they are not going to sit in lane while you are farming or set up a freeze near your tower so they can't kill you while they are denied of kills and cs they are going to roam so you have to pick between following or continue farming If you follow sure you may delay your build maybe even by a lot but at least the enemy top is not getting fed and potentially snowballing the game. But that is just something you learn from experience like actually playing it as in when to roam and counter roaming maybe even counter lane swapping if it comes to it

3:55 I'm glad that Riot's getting better about this sort of stuff, but it just feels VERY hypocritical when they literally shamed DotA for essentially doing this type of "island/prisoner" system 5 years ago... Only to now realize it has it's merits as a solution to keeping toxicity out of the hands of non-toxic players.

Regarding the new auto moderation system, it has been awful for me so far. I've been muted several times for friendly banter using less than PG words. Appealing the punishment only gave me a message along the lines of "the words you used can be taken to be objectively negative so you're staying punished". I've since had chat off to avoid any more misfires, which is unfortunate

Fiora is at the highest tier but it can be done if the player has the mental for it. When I first started playing league I found riven and thought she was soo cool. I got placed B2 then ended up B4 back in S4 then S5 I hit gold and s6 was plat and season 7+ was Diamond with riven but it took me a long time to get to that point. I had to watch reviews at the time it was viper and Adrian riven. I also watch Korean riven gameplay on my downtime. So that fiora player can definitely do it.

Is it possible to learn a hard champ? This post had a LOT of red flags. Saying oh if I wanted to climb I would just go mid/jungle because they are stronger roles, etc. But the answer is, if you one trick any champ you can climb with them, in basically any role. Even Azir. But there are different kinds of players, some only care about their rank going up and are happy to play the most soul crushingly boring strat so long as it wins.
