Very good coverage of a master showing all the stage's as he progressed in life.

My favourite version of paintings from his oeuvre are the less detailed, more foggy and impressionistic ones, even though absolutely comprehensible in it's intended depiction of the subject matter. There's something very mysterious and esoteric about those works of his.

Just because there is another portrait underneath it does not mean the final painting wasn’t by Rembrandt - to me it is quite obvious it was - it has all the characteristics which Lucien Freud ascribes - and the one underneath obviously wasn’t.

Yes 29:29 he's laughing at us. This ungodly artist, one who gave his soul up for a life of magic,.... one who at last painted himself as Jacob standing before Saint Peter knows he will not be fooled for his ungodly deeds.

Rarely do painters do any works wrought by God...because only the rich will patronize them...or the vile commercial marketeers and advertisers. Rembrandt tried to humble himself...but gave himself at last for mammon.

What kind of utter bullshit is the doctor who analyzed rembrandt painting blabbing about? There’s no way rembrandt looked 80 or 90 years old while being in his 50’s! He might have aged prematurely but not the extent that doctor was saying...... He must have been handsomely payed to be “ rembrandt’s doctor”....
