When I here these songs I get that same exciting feeling I got in 58.

It was very interesting hearing about the British tour. I am now 77 and grew up a Buddy Holly fan. I never got to see him in person - that would have been SOME experience. Now, I have to try and find parts 2 and 3.

The story about the sand in the Amp is epic. Mr. Robbie Robertson of the music group The Band said that he saw them live and worked his way to the front. He asked Buddy how he got that sound, and Buddy said the amp had two big speakers and one was blown out and that gave the unique sound which they took on the road.

Thanks for posting. I remember Joe Brown’s Rock’n’Roll Shows. Researched by Geoff Barker.

That Fender guitar has been the soundtrack to my life. I know a guy who went to the US and drove to Lubbock and got to jam with a guy who had played with Buddy. I will be green about that until my dying day.

The Winter Dance party in 1959 should have been Britain tour II. Maybe he would have met the early Beatles in Liverpool the year before they left for Hamburg

That little airplane should have never taken off. It was after midnight, a snow storm was coming in, Roger Petersen had already worked a full day AND he was not licensed to fly by instruments alone. The only thing I can think of is that Gerry Dwyer *forced* Roger to fly these three celebrities on to their next venue. It could be, if you ask me, why Gerry Dwyer was so elusive about the plane, the crash and the details of that night for the rest of his life. I'm certain he felt some guilt over the deaths of those four boys.

The Beatles weren't even the Beatles in 59 and didn't become very good till after Hamburg. Buddy was already dead before they were even a decent band.

@@mrjasondylan their recording of that'll be the day was before Buddy's passing and they were already pretty good. Good enough to get invited to Hamburg

@@mrjasondylanthey could have met him as fans and music aficionados on the rise. Buddy was quite approachable it seems.

I was with a friends house in the early 60 who happened to be Roy Wood Who went on to be in many famous bands including the move wizard and started ELO. Anyway he had just got his new Fender Stratocaster I was in awe i asked him to play some Buddy Holly and Crickets songs and he did I will always remember this moment. I wanted to have a sunburst strat but it was a lot more expensive because i was left handed It took.40 years to finally get one then it was nicked from our house.

That probably meant that the very first Fender Stratocaster to enter the UK was Buddy Holly's and not the one that Cliff Richard bought for Hank Marvin in 1959.

His stuff sounds cooler by today's standards without those corny background vocals. get the undubbed versions whenever you can! if these are live from the Palladium-did they hire a local British backing choir? I doubt they paid the Picks or that other group that sang on his records to come all the way to England! These songs. if live, sound FANTASTIC! Why wasn't the whole show recorded not that i'm not grateful for every song that was and is available. Even our Sullivan show screwed up the sound on the Beatles first appearance. I think it was that prick Bob Precht doing his part to Kill Rock & Roll!
