This was the daftest move the BBC have ever made. This show was head and shoulders above anything else they had and indeed anywhere in the world by reason of it's non music interludes which sometimes were fun and at other times informative. Always an element of surprise and his interviews though brief were fascinating. I never heard him interview Madonna but that was probably due to the fact that he kept calling her Madge. I have been listening to him for 23 years and I guess i will have to fall back on the audio tapes I have of some of his earlier shows in 2000 onwards. A radio station could do well to try to imitate this show. I never heard the Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman I thought he signed off with Queens Radio Gaga.

I listened to you doing my O levels in the 80’s. I hated studying you got me through it. Driving vans, trucks an other commercial vehicles. The posse, mr Angry, Alan Bennett, And Tim vine. You have a comforting voice on the radio. You’re the Tiger Woods of Golf, the Roger Federer of tennis. We all have gifts, you found yours and excelled in it, gonna miss you. “Any Quo”, “Shout out”. Thanks for doing your shtick. I love you Steve, over 40 years broadcasting. I think you’ve been cut too early, anyway producers have different ideas. Trying to keep it more hip possibly, Thank you for all the journeys and roads and weather conditions you lifted us up through. May God bless you and your future endeavours. Good luck to Tim Smith too!, I think he was one of the original posse.

@Zerofightervi2 жыл бұрын
@@ethandalton6480 Completely agree, I listened to the show, essentially for the traffic reports, & Steve repeatedly commits the cardinal sin of talking over the tracks before they've finished. The blunders of getting sayings wrong or misunderstanding things that his co-presenters are saying. The jingles sound like something from the 80s or even 70s in some cases. I think people are resistant to change, they like reassurance of a familiar voice they've heard for decades. Personally I'd like to have seen OJ Borg have a go at a more sociable slot rather than being tucked away in the wee small hours.
@suffolkpompey2 жыл бұрын
@@ethandalton6480 Garbage!! you are clueless when it comes to quality broadcasting. Steve Wright is from a generation of broadcasters who can hold a live programme together. Back in the day when we didn't have the plethora of radio stations that we have now, you had to be the best to get onto the radio. Steve, like the rest of the radio 1 and 2 DJ's were the best of the best, (but I expect you're too young to remember those days). The majority of presenters now are box tickers who have just about got the grasp of speaking English.

A great, poignant play out for a legendary presenter. I used to listen to him a lot in the eighties in the afternoon on Radio 1 in the days when it was huge. The secret to his shows, I think, was consistency. He remained at the top of his game for over forty years. It was top quality radio that was always there regardless of the stage of life you were at or events in the world. God knows there has been a lot of tumultuous change in all that time yet the show always delivered. I don't buy the idea that it was stale as if a something is really good quality why change the fundamentals. I have not listened for years except in waiting rooms occasionally but whenever I did the quality was always high and it reminded me of the halcyon days of Radio 1 in the eighties which was a special time for radio and music. Steve Wright will be missed from his daily show.

I heard all of Steve Wright's last Big Show in the afternoon last Friday on BBC Radio 2 at home on my vintage ghettoblasters & valve radios & I thought he held it together to the end very well & so did his 2 co-hosts Tim Smith & Janie-Lee Grace & traffic & travel Bobbie Prior. I always liked Steve Wright's Big Show in the afternoon on BBC Radio 2 complete with factoids & Serious Jockin' with no 'G' on Friday afternoons from 4.15pm. His Cockney accent is brilliant (if you want a shout-out lol) & I will miss how many hours to go to Serious Jockin' with no 'G' on Friday afternoons. Steve Wright is such a natural & takes everything in his stride well & I will certainly miss him on weekday afternoons now. I can recall him back in the 1990's doing the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1, known as Steve Wright in the Morning. All the best to Steve Wright for the future & I hope the BBC will come to regret this decision at some point!

Because they want to attract new listeners and not rely on the same aging audience?

This is the end of an era, Steve and the team have been a part of our lives, I know the beeb say they have to move with the times but this is one occasion when they really shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken. My drive home from work will now be listening to another station I don't have anything against Scott Mills but this is just wrong.
