I received this transmission as well loud and clear the other evening down here in East Cork during a power cut on a little battery set.

Reminds me of the latter days of BBC Radio 2 on medium wave. For much of the day they carried "service ceased" announcements, carrying programmes just during the evenings, until they stopped that. It was, of course, to make way for Radio 5.

Almost reminds me of the two year closure programme of the old 405 line tv transmitters back in the early 80s

We’ve lost a good few AM stations to FM in Australia. None going to DAB as the govt still haven’t made up their mind on country expansion.

I'm inclined to agree, internet collapsed here last week during an important speech. I listened to it on rte long wave on the DAC10, no problem.

The BBC are switching off a lot of their local stations on AM. Radio Stoke, Hereford and Worcester, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Ulster have all gone with more to come in the very near future. It will be interesting to see if these frequencies will go silent or will be replaced with someting else.

I personally dont like digital, i like to have the freedom to listen to what i want and where. Digital radio is like freeview digital tv, you get what they give you and its shit quality, no actual choice. No one asked for this digital junk, it was the greed of govenments to sell band space. I like the analog radios, im lucky to have a hacker radio and a yaesu Frg 7700 receiver. Bloody hell, Don't i moan a lot lol :-D

Absolutely correct on all points there, here it has been announced that DAB is to be abandoned.

But you only get what they give you on analogue radio anyway - the stations that can be received in your area.
