Just wondering why the launches of Radios 1 & 2 were played before the closure of the Home Service clip? Also wondering why the clip of Roger Moffatt closing the Light Programme is missing? 🤔

Any idea what the music at 11:15 is?
@tvradiotimelines3 ай бұрын
Apparently, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop created individual (slightly weird, to be honest) jingles/themes for the earliest local BBC stations. This is one of them.
@GryphLane3 ай бұрын
@@tvradiotimelinesAh that would make sense. It sounds like the opening theme of a children's programme about telling the time, or something along those lines!

Interestingly, during the war all of the transmitter masts switched to the same two or three frequencies throughout the whole country so that enemy aircraft could not use regional radio frequencies as homing beacons.

Are they the Logos?
@tvradiotimelines3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the slightly delayed response: I have been travelling and only returned to the UK today. As I mentioned in the notes at the end of the video, the BBC was slow to adopt audio and/or visual idents. In the absence of original material, some of the idents in this presentation have been created purely for illustrative purposes. They are, however, based on material from the time (e.g. the BBC main logo, some printed advertising promotion, children's club badges, etc) but they are not all "genuine" as such.

Any Idea why the BBC Radio stations in the early 20's were named that?
@stevengn72452 ай бұрын
I believe it is descended from when pre speech wireless stations used a unique morse code identifier. A short 3 character code that could be easily transmitted in Morse transferred to the early days of speech radio.
@Sheffield_Steve2 ай бұрын
Wow! Those ident themes made for Radio's Sheffield & Leeds by the Radiophonic Workshop, hardly their finest work! 🤣

Because this video is about the 1920s-1960s. The temporary stations will feature in later episodes.
