Why did the release bearing fail? Was it due to the clutch? I am not being critical, just curious how a clutch breaks a release bearing. On the other hand, if you noticed a clutch problem, notified the customer and then the clutch failed, you did the right thing. There was obviously something not right. I do most repairs on my car myself, but have a garage round the corner with about four workers in it. I let them work on my car because I do trust them and can not be bothered to crawl under my car for a few quid. You sound like you are that type of honest garage. I would never go in to a KwiKfit /halfords type place under any conditions. I am not a car mechanic, but I have taken large engines out of large cars and put them in smaller ones for fun, which makes me slightly more able than your average Kwikfit fitter.

Too many tyre fitters that think they're mechanics nowadays.
@manawearblack6 жыл бұрын
Ned You’re deluded mate, changing a tyre is the easiest thing in the game. If tyre cutters are better than mechanics, why can mechanics change tyres/wheels, but tyre fitters can’t drop an engine out?
@manawearblack6 жыл бұрын
Ned Well you’re saying that tyre fitters work harder than mechanics, which insinuates the work is harder, which is why the extra effort is required. Second of all you say there are no mechanics anymore only strippers and fitters which is an equally stupid statement. How do you define a mechanic? Tyre fitters have one of the easiest jobs going. Can I, someone who is slightly above average when it comes to mechanics, car work etc change a tyre? A wheel? Yes. Can I change an engine? A turbo? Can I fuck. Can a tyre fitter? Can they fuck

Ned tyre fitters are the painter/decorators of the car world, the lowest skill job in the industry. Just like painters, it takes no skill, just the right equipment

Ned I’m not a mechanic lol, I’m nothing to do with the trade just mess about as a hobbie, and through messing about I’ve learnt how to change a tyre, take a wheel off etc. I still haven’t learnt how to change an engine though. Surprising since changing a tyre is harder?
@manawearblack6 жыл бұрын
Ned you said tyre fitters work harder than mechanics which insinuates that tyre fitting is harder than mechanics. Mechanics change engines, tyre fitters change tyres. I can change tyres in a respectable time, Can you? I can’t change an engine or a turbo in a respectable time, can you?

I've been driving for 30yrs now and it's hard to trust any garage I go to for repairs or mot's. The last 2 places I've been to refused to work on my car as I told them what was wrong and to fix only those things. One place I took it to failed its mot and wanted £286 for the mot plus welding and brake pipes. Not believing them I paid for the mot but took it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. It failed on a faulty back light that the 1st place didn't even notice. Didn't need welding and didn't need brake pipes. I went back to 1st place with my mot to show them in front of customers, they couldn't get me out quick enough. Robbing bastards. (excuse my language) I've just about had enough of mechanics. Sorry if someone genuine is reading this but the bad ones are giving good ones a terrible reputation.

Ahh that's right a repairman who is qualified for the job , remember who pays your bills customers without them you have nothing simple build a reputable company with clients and you will have them referring friends family etc left right and centre I only know because I've experienced this myself with my uncle's buisness due to fact half of time a customer comes in they always mention someone who is either a regular customer for m.o.t's etc or say well my friend or family member recommended I come here as I've heard your decent reputable garage , nothing wrong with honesty try it sometime and you'll not have to be dishonest to make a living

I don't know how to feel about this one - all the times I have taken my car to a "proper garage" they have always tried to tell me things are broken or going to break when they ain't. Same for the very few times I have went to the manufactures garage. Renault being my worse experience - they literally had my car for over 5 months trying to "fix it" - to cut a long story short - I got the car back (still not fixed) and decided to check it over myself - within 5 minutes I suspected a broken/damaged valve - a few hours later when I took the head off the engine, I confirmed it was a broken valve, replaced it and the car was like new again. Most of the time (at least in my experience) these "experts" don't know their arse from their elbow and spend most their time talking shit based on what they have READ out of their latest TEXT BOOK. I've always worked on cars myself since my last experience with Renault - I'm a perfectionist so I get the job done how it's supposed to, generally I get it done much quicker and of course much cheaper.

Clerkheaton offered to recover the vehicle and repair it...its about the only thing they did as the repair, once complete, couldn't be returned as their recovery vehicle was out of action (hope it wasnt the clutch), so they offered to go halves on a delivery cost....we accepted.....the returned vehicle dripped pink fluid everywhere, they had overfilled a manual transmission with ATF (automatic transmission fluid).....so we had this drained to the correct level (it had also made a mess of my mother in laws drive) and still it dripped as they had not removed the plastic seal from one of the driveshafts which they should have done. We claimed our overnight accommodation, fuel, cleaning costs against their guarantee and they offered a reasonable amount.

Bollocks. Garages are there to correctly diagnose and rectify faults. For example: You don't go in with a wheel wobble on braking and have the track rod ends replaced. The garage would check the ball joints and bushings and hub bearings for play and also check the discs for run out with a dial gauge. By doing that you'd find the issue by process of elimination. That's not educated guesswork. Either you get scammed a lot or you're justifying being a scammer because you work in a garage.

What’s the difference between second hand and reconditioned?
@davidbrown-yx3gz5 жыл бұрын
Second hand would be from a scrappies, reconditioned would be an old gearbox sent to a specialist then stripped down and all worn parts replaced and rebuilt
@Technicallyimright5 жыл бұрын
david brown old and used though? I thought all reconditioned stuff would be second hand...

@@Technicallyimright are you thick?
@Technicallyimright2 жыл бұрын
@@monkeytennis8861 I have my own company and earn between $300k and $400k a year. So I don’t think I’m thick no. What do you earn? Are you thick? Asking questions should be considered a intuitive thing to do, only morons would want to live in a world where people don’t ask for explanations on things they don’t understand. Maybe, if you asked more questions, you wouldn’t come across as stupid.

Just a tip, get rich, and then buy shares in each company you require services from then you created a business deal. For those who can't do this there should be an insurance out there for people whom can't afford one off payments to avoid debts mounting, and keep the garages in business perhaps that be a great idea if this idea is at all possible to ease pressure and,money worries, the idea would make, allot of people happy, and as they say happy people, happy business and of course happy life, just an idea though from a mere mortal

In 2024 these prices seem cheap i could be wrong as fortunately havent had these problems. For a sports car as well 2k these days is cheap.

So sad to see my trade has all this distrust. - time served, experienced, volvo trained mechanic - This fella did get greedy and people slag us off for how much money we charge. It's a mechanical world things go wrong. You don't owe us for the 2 hours you owe us for the time it's took to learn and perfect our skills fixing cars. If that's the case try fix it yaself divvies. Solicitors charge £400 an hour man

How tf do you find a trusted garage thats the real question
@ShanesAutos5 жыл бұрын
P G well if you have a car like a Porsche you can always find a freelance mechanic who has worked on them and knows them inside out and will get genuine parts. I know a fella with a few Ferrari’s and he always had his 360’s services by a mechanic who worked at a Ferrari dealership but now operates privately.

To be honest, the aftermarket clutch he fitted to the focus, isn't a "chocolate" clutch, its a perfectly acceptable aftermarket item that you'll buy from any motor factors. Not everyone wants Sachs or LuK.

Debatable. And it'll be a cheap piece of crap that WILL fail prematurely. If you're fitting cheapo clutches and the like you shouldn't be near cars. For components like that reputable brands are the only way to go and generally aren't much more expensive.
