Thank you! I am a recorder player and every time I tell someone that they say, 'I used to play recorder. When I was 5. But then I started playing...'. For a recorderist to have got this far in the competition is such an amazing boost for all of us! No longer shall recorders be the instrument of primary school classrooms!!! You are amazing!! Well done!

you are so right. I was forced to play recorder as a child which made me hate music instruments in general. A couple of weeks ago i passed a music store that had many different recorders in its window. I entered the store and asked if i may try to play. I still remembered a lot and enderd up buying a Garklein recorder which is now disturbing my nighbours :) If kids would not be forced to learn recorder at school, maybe more people would actually like this instrument.

Great to hear someone have so much fun and freedom with old Vivaldi. Sad to read comments from people who can't tell that she is intentionally playing with the intonation. This young artist obviously could have played it cleanly and neatly if she had so chosen. Brava to her, and still a cheer for Vivaldi for auld lang syne!
@MaxLohMusic11 жыл бұрын
I don't see any comments criticizing her intonation. Nor can I fathom why anyone, no matter how musically ignorant, could mistake pitch bend, which is obviously intentional, for unintentional lack of intonation.
@kereyquaid254011 жыл бұрын
***** Sorry-- I certainly didn't intend a complaint! Someone did complain, or I would not have rebutted. And thus I infer that yes, someone was that ignorant. Sigh. My main point is that Charlotte is a great musician.
@TariqKhan-np2wx10 жыл бұрын
***** I agree. A lot of this music at the time was written in such a way that it was expected the performer to show of their skill and virtuosity, that is why in a handel aria every repeat of the main melody the singer was expected to sing it slightly differently and their own touch,.She is doing just that but at is is the 21st century she is doing something more modern. Good on her.
@andreainzaghi73736 жыл бұрын
unless you are a great musician you definitely can not play with a difficult piece, and she is not. She could sing all the note correctly but she dare to introduce variations. Nonsense, a bit of humility and do not play with Vivaldi. Play with pop music.

I bought recently some wind instrument from online store because it was very cheap. I browsed internet yesterday to check out what kind of instrument is this, it appeared to be a plastic recorder. My curiosity made me to dig into learning how to hold and play the notes from the first octave. I was quickly fascinated by this instrument. It sounds so warm and relaxing. But you have to listen to it live or try to play on it to feel its magic and harmony. My admirations to this amazing young woman.

I'm afraid I never gave the recorder a fair chance thanks to the memories of ear-splitting squeaks and squeals in music lessons when I was at school. How much should I be spending for a good one? The recorder I used at school was £9 but I doubt that would do the trick for serious learning.
@parasti09 жыл бұрын
This seems to be an alto recorder. Far more pleasant to the ear and also far more expensive than a typical soprano recorder.
@davidb.8548 жыл бұрын
Actually, the typical schoolchildren recorder is a sopranino which is even worse. That's why everyone hates recorder because the ones they played were all whistle register.

do you have to play with double tongue when it comes to the fast parts or is it it possible to train it like this? (i mean the very fast parts)
@sweetnatureFR8 жыл бұрын
It depends of the music style and period. Generally, you must also accompany the notes (particularly the quick notes), by the tongue. At the baroque period you had six different articulations with the tongue (T, D, R, L, K, G). Play notes quickly is a training. More you play (slow when you start the piece), you could go faster and have a better coordination fingers, tongue and breath.

The music you play is not determined by the instrument but the player... pick any good recorder; why do you need that exact model... then you will see a different model in a another video and you will ask the same question... that's a never ending bottomless pit...
