Soprano recorder: Mu-Chien Chen (15 years old), Piano: Ding-Heng Wu. This performance was recorded live in the "Concert of Taiwan/Japan Recorder Competition Winners" held at Taiwan's National Concert Hall on 7/18/2010. The recorder was a Marsyas rosewood soprano recorder.

To all the people who didn’t think recorder could be a good instrument with good pieces before, recorder has been around since the baroque period making it extremely old, it was used in quite delightful pieces and major classical composers also made some pieces for it, a lot which was covered up by the awful teaching of schools

@@utha2665 Nope. The Western transverse flute and recorder are actually two completely different instruments with different origins. The transverse flute traces its roots back to Asia, whereas the recorder was invented in Europe. They were developed separately alongside one another. European artists ended up favoring the flute over the recorder, but the recorder is still a very unique instrument with a lot of potential. I'd like to see it play a greater role in music, perhaps with a modernization of the instrument like what was done with the flute and clarinet.
