This year the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards are providing the Escort and their Regimental Colonel, HRH the Duke of York, has spoken exclusively to Huw Edwards. Huw will be joined by military and royal experts to guide us through the meticulous parade, a balcony appearance by the Queen and the royal family, and the traditional RAF flypast.

They are constantly visiting other countries for diplomatic state responsibilities. Every year the Royal Family as a whole carries out over 2,000 official engagements throughout the UK and worldwide. They also support and encourage the public and charity sectors. About 3,000 organisations list a member of the Royal Family as patron or president. Members of the Royal Family have official relationships with many units of the Forces, paying regular visits to soldiers, sailors and airmen serving at home and abroad. Not to mention how many have actually *served* in the army themselves. Just last year the queen attended 283 official engagements, a 93 year-old that if she was anyone else, would not still be working. The same women who at 19 years old joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service and refused to leave London despite the bombings. The royal family would visit all the bombed areas and organised help for those now homeless. She made her first broadcast at 14 years-old to help comfort children being evacuated. On Victory Day in Europe, both princesses celebrated in the crowd with all the "commoners". Consultancy Brand Finance said that in 2017 the monarchy contributed £1.8 billion to the UK economy, which is nowhere near what they will ever receive from the government. The Royal family costs tax payers as a whole almost 21 million pounds a year (around 69p each); that is nothing compared to what we get back.

Some former empire declined to join, but since the Commonwealth was formed, many other nations decided to join. The Queen is the Head, but she does not govern. The members elect their president and they decide which countries may join and have the veto of those who for various reasons may be removed or refused for some reason such as their current style of government does not fit with the ethos of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Can/Aus are ran by white people who stole the land from the natives. Black/brown were colonized/slaves. I don't buy into colonial propaganda nor do I care been tethered to white countries to feel special.

I have no ill will for her and didn’t see any of the aggression of the Royal family toward Meghan or vice verse that you did. Anne was in the proper place based on the fact that she is a more senior royal then Meghan. It didn’t look like Meghan was talking to Harry at all. She appeared to be talking to the man beside her. Harry was chatting to whoever was beside him as well. She was in no way pushing herself to the front of the balcony. She was in back, behind the children as she should have been. Went to London last year but missed this by a few days. Had a very early walk around the area (05:30) and felt like I had the whole place to myself. Wonderful! I've had the pleasure to meet the Queen three times; once being a 30 minute private audience in the 1990's at Buckingham Palace. One of the highlights of my military career.

Every year I watch this wonderful show. The British people should be proud of their Queen, Queen Elizabeth is the symbol of their Nation. Modern Monarchy is something really incredible, something that we do not have in the Republics like in Brazil. From a Brazilian admirer and monarchist.

Everytime I watch these Royal Parades, I get chicken skin as being part of the Commonwealth growing up - we've never missed them on TV from black/white to color, it's been the highlight of our growing up & now that I'm a senior2, it's still chicken skin to watch it -good that I can always go on KZbin to rewatch it again..never got tired of it as its so fascinating watching all that splendour -which is what Her Royal Highness The Queen of England is for me. I sincerely hope to watch her celebrate her Birthday Parade for as long as she can.

She was honestly so happy all the time. She oversaw almost 70 Trooping the Colour parades, of which they are almost always identical; yet each time she seemed enthusiastic and happy, never acting like she was bored, always pretending it was her first time at one. Amazing person.

Many member countries were not previous empire members. It has since welcomed other countries not former empire. HMTQ is titular head but not leader. The president is elected by members the Queen supports, hosts and welcomes. They hold their own meetings where she is not present. Make their own decisions collectively she is a titular head, just like with UK Gvt.

I’m a 5 th generation Australian and have loved the Royal family since I was a child! When I was 20 my sister & I slept in the street outside Buckingham Palace to watch Princess Margaret pass on her way to get married! I miss London terribly as I’m now living in Los Angeles…..

@@FFEMTB08 Cochineal produced the vivid scarlet colour but was expensive so Britain's early military opted for Madder Red from the Madder plant root. It wasn't as scarlet but as times changed so did the colour. Red was used as it stands out among the crowd and battle smoke so you know who your friends are. If you are aiming towards a sea of red, turn around and face the enemy.

The Quality and Detail that goes into putting on a parade of this nature with the "Queen's" Birthday is a very important day in England. No other parades require the planning when it comes to everything going as planned even the feet on the horses are polished, the guards, the uniforms everything to show the respect the people have for the "Queen"!
