I think this is some of his best work ever. Probably #2 and #3, just below his segment on Senna on TopGear that most Americans missed when it was edited out of the show on BBC America. And having a personal connection to the story makes him even better. He can certainly be abrasive and offensive at times, but when he is passionate about something, his presentation is top notch. Granted the script was written for him (I suspect), but knowing how to humanize the story makes all the difference.

Very similar to the Congressional Medal of Honor here in the United States. That was created during the American Civil War. Often it is awarded postumouly. That is awarded for valor in a sense. Never for taking lives but chiefly for saving lives. It's a medal no American soldier wants because most likely you are dead. I'm a veteran and I have lost many friends and family members. Some died in action. Some died from Agent Orange later on. My grandfather was 3rd Wave Omaha Beach. He drank heavily when he got home. My uncle lost his leg and life in 1995 from wounds he got in Nam in 1968. I go to the VA and sometimes I wish I didn't see so much. Sad how men kill each other year after year.... century after century. Sad. The beat goes on.

The planning wasn't botched. The paras and gliders were landed in the best location they could find because the gliders not only carried infantry, but they also carried anti-tank guns, jeeps, extra ammo and light artillery witch the paras would need not only to capture the bridge, but to defend the drop zone for the second drop so it was critical that they all landed in the same place.

It’s equally hard for US soldiers to get a VC, as it is for a Brit to get a MOH. My favourite shoot em ever is MOH, there isn’t a VC game but there should be. Both are the highest awards that soldiers can get, respectively for their countries. So to say one is better, more prestigious, or harder to get than another, is unreasonable and logically absurd. All the recipients of both medals are heroes and worthy of our eternal gratitude, for fighting, being prepared to die above the call of duty and putting their comrades in arms lives and welfare above their own. That’s the definition of Honour, Valour and Gallantry. In any case, the USA and British soldiers, intelligence and military personnel are brothers in arms and have been since 1917. So the services of all the recipients of any medal, benefits each other’s countries. Even ones before 1917, benefited the future alliance in the long run. Ultimately all medals are useless really anyway, especially if one dies in the process to get it. And there’s a lot of luck involved in the process as well. A soldier who landed on the beaches on D Day, was shot and died before he could damage the defenders, still made the ultimate sacrifice for Freedom, their country, people and the alliance. Perhaps they took the bullet that would’ve killed a VC or MOH recipient, who was next to them. And they would’ve gone on to get the medal instead. War is a team effort and it’s the whole team that deserves the glory. The dead, wounded and heroes alike. They all put their lives and health on the line for the benefit of others and future generations. They all worked extremely hard to capture the enemy flag. If I went through the hell that the VC and MOH recipients went through, I wouldn’t give a rat’s arse about getting a medal for it. All it really means is that they can write books and tell their stories and everyone buys into them, bc of the medals. It’s commercialism and for propaganda purposes. Killing shouldn’t be celebrated and rewarded, no matter who’s been killed. It’s a failure of humanity and politics that wars happen in the first place.
