I remember this day as if it was yesterday. My friend & I had organised to go shopping together in London, we were both 18/19 at the time. The evening before she phoned & said she’d been offered overtime, & i told her I had too.. so we rearranged. She picked me up & we went in to work together, & we heard about those bombings when we went upstairs for our break.. I ran to the bathroom & threw up. Our direct train gets in at London kings cross, & from there we used to get the Liverpool line - the exact train that was hit..& it was all around the time we would’ve got into London. Neither of us were directly affected, but the shock hit us quite badly at how close we came, we both went home early that day. I ended up meeting a guy a number of months later on a club night out in London who was on one of the trains that got bombed, his carriage, although damaged - stayed on the tracks & he & all the passengers inside survived with very minor cuts to no injuries, but I’ll never forget the glaze over his eyes when he spoke about getting out & stepping over bodies / severely injured people - that’s what people don’t tell you.. how harrowing it was even for those who escaped with little injuries, because of what they saw & heard that day. We sadly lost touch but I often wonder how he’s doing. My heart genuinely goes out to all those affected by the 7/7 - the victims, their families, first responders, paramedics, firemen, nurses, doctors, volunteers, everyone. Many of us won’t - & will never - forget 7/7.

I was supposed to go into London that day too, to hand in coursework at university. The train I usually caught to uni was the one between London Paddington and Hammersmith and I would get off at Baker Street. That was one of the tubes that got hit. I had decided to go in later that day to give me more time to complete my coursework and I remember watching it on the lunchtime news, suddenly feeling sick to my stomach when I realised I could have been on that train at that exact time if I’d gone in as normal. It was such a heartbreaking day - luckily my husband had driven to work that day but he would have been on that line too. My heart goes out to everyone involved ❤

During one summer, I was taking a class at a university and was on my own. Most of the research I needed to do required individual work, so being alone was normal for me. One evening, as I was walking back to my apartment, I encountered a guy who appeared to be walking home as well. Almost passing him by, he asked if he could walk with me, and I agreed. We walked together in silence, occasionally exchanging smiles. It was then that I realized how alone I had been feeling, and how much it meant to me to have someone to walk with. When we reached my turn-off, I had to part ways with him. As we said our goodbyes, I felt a sense of gratitude and warmth from our brief interaction. The memory of that walk has always had a positive impact on me, and I sometimes find myself dreaming about it. It serves as a reminder of the influence we can have on others, and how we might be remembered.

It's fascinating how we respond in such situations. I once had a really bad panic attack and my family all gathered around me in distress and worry. I felt my entire body become stiff: I was unable to move or speak or even move my eyes. A terrifying moment. I'll always remember how my auntie gripped my hand in hers and held it. I didn't feel any pressure. To be honest I don't think I even felt her hand. I just felt the temperature of her skin against mine. Cool. Cold. It meant so much to me. In a moment where I couldn't feel anything except overwhelming panic and a dire need to breathe, to feel her holding my hand is something I'll never forget. I'm not particularly close to her but I'll always think fondly of her because of this one moment.

Fight or flight is an intense and powerful response - it's almost impossible not to be in that place, reacting, despite our best intentions. One traumatized person to another: I am glad he found someone else to relate to who went through the same traumatic event and I hope now he can give himself peace. He deserves peace.

This man was clearly in survival mode - also called a fight or flight situation. All of our instincts tell us to get away from the danger and everyone handles emergency situations differently. It’s heartbreaking that he has been living with such tremendous guilt. I hope he can leave that guilt in the past and move forward. Perhaps he can use his experience to help others in some way. ❤

I think we always want to reach out to our rescuers or those that helped us in dark times like that. I was rescued out of severe child abuse right after my 4th birthday. I will never know who made the call that sent the police and child services in to rescue us. But it will always be my desire to reach out that that person/people that literally saved my life to say "Thank you here is my life, this is what you gave me". I have been blessed to stay in touch with at least 1 of people who saved my life (my social worker), without them and my now adopted parents (only parents I claim) hard fight I would have gone back to that hell hole and died within months.

They are both politely and tentatively trying to find out but not commiting to being the other person. How many other people in that carraige during the bombing had that experience. It is obvious that they were the 2 people. She was kind then and is still kind towards him, giving him an out by saying that she did not feel bad about him pushing in front of her as she was searching for her phone.

Good luck Karl! You’re moving forward, one step at a time. This took a lot of courage, it’s obviously overwhelming but you are safe, you are well and you are loved.

A very honest man. He shouldn't feel bad, panic and fear brings out things in us that we would usually rationalize.

Once when I was really young I nearly drowned at Skegness in one of the theme park rides. We never saw her again. Hope she's still alive somewhere

Everyone handles these kinds of situations differently. Some of us get panicky and claustrophobic. Forgive yourself buddy.

It's courageous of him to admit that he might have been selfish in hindsight to an audience and be honest about the details. That in itself, makes him worthy. He has earned this.

It's so important to hear from people who experience the worst of terrorist actions. We can learn and help more and understand the lifelong trauma that violence of the worst kind affects our friends, family, neighbours and those we read about. Sending warm and heartfelt wishes to this man and all who suffered on that despicable horrifying day.❤

This man has given me hope that people who genuinely care, genuinely want to impact the world in a positive way and genuinely learn from their mistakes (even if this guy didn't actually do it)..exist. It just shows that humans do have potential, some of us are truly trying and that is enough for me. I needed to be reminded, thanks man ❤️
