And something else (that I find charming) is that she doesn't put on any airs and graces. In the interview she did with Louis Theroux he put to her the well-held belief that she is widely considered to be a national treasure. Dame Judi listened intently, but made it clear that she doesn't particularly like those types of descriptions of her.

She delivers it slowly, so that one’s mind can absorb every pressing verb and envision every metaphor. The density of meaning in a single line from Shakespeare is truly amazing. It makes perfect sense that it was the Bard who coined the phrase “brevity is the soul of wit.” (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2). Consider how much information was conveyed in that sonnet, in so few syllables. Shakespearean actors know how to chew on dialogue and steal a scene, pretty much at will. Dench is no exception. She’s absolutely brilliant. Dench flips a switch, and suddenly nothing else matters-and I’m staring at my stupid phone getting misty. That’s an unreal power.

Not only the Brits. Indeed, no modern dialect preserved the possess’d/least rhyme of the 17th century London dialect. Anyone who has listened closely to the original can do a performance as interesting. In fact, I don’t think her end stopping line 11 is what the text calls for. Arising ends on an unstressed syllable, there is no punctuation, therefore the line ought to enjambed, imho. Certainly the energy and expansion of 11-12a is intended to contrast with the endstopped lines preceding.

Am I the only one who cried?? Idk why but hearing this QUEEN and GOAT reciting Shakespeare just broke me. It’s been a hard day but this just made it all the better!! Dame Judi Dench is one of my heroes and she inspires me every time I see her in movies or television-doesn’t matter which. She also spells her name Judi like my aunt did and you don’t see it spelled that way often and my aunt was my life. I lost her a few years ago and haven’t been the same since-I’m a shell of a person now. But when I see Dame Judi Dench it brings me some comfort….
