Muslims follow the quran and the Quran tells us exactly what happens to gays (story of lud) so that is why it is not excepted. I'm sorry but what more proof do people need? Being Muslim means you submit to Allah and you follow the teachings. Allah is merciful, he will forgive him. You don’t need a sheik you need to see hear and understand the words of your Creator stop believing what you hear sto following hearsay stories written by men stop placing hadiths next to the word of Allah. Not really, Islam is famous for being intolerant (of pretty much everything) there's no redeeming it without massive reformation, but she did make a valid point: You can't choose not to be gay, you're born that way, but you can, if you feel the call to Faith, choose your religion, so why choose one where your sexuality is deeply offensive and forbidden? Seems like sado-masochism to me.
@Aeroldoth37 жыл бұрын
*why choose one where your sexuality is deeply offensive and forbidden?* Because he was raised AS a muslim from before he could think. It's deeply ingrained as a core part of him. He's a cultural muslim. Trying to deprogram people and break them free from childhood brainwashing and indoctrination is EXTREMELY difficult, if not impossible. It's why I'm strongly opposed to parents raising their kids AS a theist. Religion is something you should shelter children from until they're old enough to think and decide for themselves.

Maybe all the time? Look no further than the late 20th century where the UK abolished the criminality associated with homosexual acts. But maybe you don't agree with that. Fine - what about the abolishment of slavery? Minimum age to work? Minimum pay? Abolishment of segregation based on race? Women allowed to drive in Saudi? Laws change, and even when they do exist, there is certainly room to navigate, debate and change. That's why we have courts and systems of justice. Sure it's not legal to break the law, but that doesn't mean we can't change it if the collective judgment provides a convincing argument against it. The inability to rationalise and accept the fact that humans will inevitably continue to develop new perspectives is the root cause of conventional islamic notions' incompatibility with the modern world. On the flip side, not all "new perspectives" are always justified in the modern world. This is the reason why we need to have more rational and logic driven debate, instead of a one-size fits all rule for all time, regardless if you are religious or not. The more you understand philosophy and utilise critical thinking, instead of just blatantly accept what you were 'taught', the more you can appreciate what religion truly is.

As a Muslim it is my duty to tell that person that what he's doing is wrong, but not to tell him that he's not a Muslim. Even if he is gay by birth, it's fine as long as he doesn't get into the act. The point is that a sinner should accept that what he's doing is a sin, rather than ask others to accept it within the religion

That doesn't sound as a free choice to me. IMO leaving Islam, or any other religion, is the most sane thing to do. There is not a shred of evidence for any supernatural being, let alone a being that demands you to live by the rules made up by other humans in his name.

corsinivideos Religion needs to go as a whole mate :P But no the problem is, that only like what we tell ourselves, a large portion of moderate muslims, believe all the same things extremists believe, they just don't want to fight with violence to achieve it. They instead opt for standing by, and letting the islamists, both violent and non-violent, push for the changes for them.
@raph2ael8 жыл бұрын
+Sokar Absolutely, this just makes no sense to me either, i would be shocked if it turned out most Muslims thought being Muslim and gay i ok. Being looked at the wrong way round completely, yes you were born gay and that cant be changed, you were born into a faith that opposes it, realize that its the faith that needs to be abandoned not the mainstream interpretation.

***** I haven't deleted that comment. Its right above you. Where do you see me saying I hate homosexuals? Considering I don't, I think it'll be hard for you to prove this :P Also what does the fact, that most modern feminists, multiculturists, and marxists are atheist, has to do with me thinking their ideas are toxic and harmful? All three ideologies promote bad ideas, and use bunk science to do it. Modern feminism and marxists using made up statistics, advocating for a; guilty until prove innocent, legal adaption, and multiculturists ignoring the harm being done in their country, because of their self hatred (Sweden is an excellent example). Worst of all, any criticism of their ideas, however rooted in science that criticism might be, is instant labeled misogynistic, racist, or offensive. They have no arguments, and use loaded words in order to avoid debate. Honest people change their minds in light of evidence, and modern feminists, multiculturists, and marxists, generally don't. As such I view them (for the most part) as dishonest groups, trying to push an harmful ideologies, the same way religion tries to push its ideology.

+Sokar The problem was the same in christianity. Christians have a lot of rules that they don't follow anymore because they changed the interpretation. Christians could not eat pork too, and christian women should wear a veil and should not be in a higher position than any man. But they changed their view on these things even if the book says otherwise. So the problem is always the interpretation. We can imagine a scale from "literal" to "metaphorical", and in the middle we can find a infinite number of shades of interpretation. Christians have fought for centuries about this stuff. Muslim are debating too, but I don't see any agreement about that. So we must admit that there are different interpretations of the Qu'ran. This leads to two possible endings: one idea prevails and muslims around the world will follow one and only one interpretation (literal or metaphorical, I cannot predict this), or they just give up, decide to split and to form mutiple "churches" and every single "church" will have its own interpretaion. In this last scenario I see the chance for a gay person to identify as muslim, because nobody will be able to forbid a "church" to read the Qu'ran in a very metaphorical way, enough to accept homosexuality. Until then, one can still call himself gay and muslim, but the word "muslim" contains people that are against homosexuality, and this person will not be accepted by other muslims. As an atheist I see this as a complete waste of time, that we could spend researching useful things like a cure to cancer or a solution to third world problems. But hey, religious people seem to have much fun debating about which god has the longer dick, I don't want to interrupt their amusement!

I kinda wish progressive religious people, like Maajid Nawaz, would stop using "reinterpret" as a euphemism for "reject." They reject the tenents of the faith. Many progressive interpretations in several faiths seems extremely dishonest. Why can't the religious say "my holy book says this, and i reject it". That would gain them much more respect.

Yes, the hate and intolerance in the Quran is a big problem. "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip." - quran.com/8/12 Surahs like these are the reason why I tell everyone that I know in life why they should not respect Islam. The intolerant and filthy garbage in the Quran has no place in modern society.
@TehNetherlands5 жыл бұрын
That's the problem with the Quran: it doesn't change. Not even when it has long been shown to be incompatible with science. The Quran contains an erroneous description of the geometry of the planet(all translations of the Quran do, in fact; the Earth is an oblate spheroid, and the Quran gets it wrong), it contains descriptions of the origin of man that are not compatible with paleontological findings and genetics. (the Adam and Eve creation mythology could not possibly have been true due to the vast observed genetic diversity). The Quran contains truly bizarre interpretations of phenomenon like shooting stars, and rather laughable descriptions of certain aspects of human biology. But the real problem here is that Muslims like yourself refuse to learn about the real world because they believe the Quran tells them everything they need to know. This explains in part why Muslim majority societies are so underdeveloped and backward. I left my religion many years ago and I suggest you do the same. Get to know the real world, you won't regret it.

But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment“. @@NoLoVeLoStNoLoVfOuNd Yup but you cant say the same thing about agnostics/atheists. IF, i repeat if, there is a greater power, everything a human has thought of is wrong. I’m from an Ethnic minority and also a proud Muslim. Although I do believe police profiling is unfortunate it is backed by statistics. We can’t entirely blame police for picking out higher probabilities, however the the main issue is far greater than police profiling rather the problem is police profiling that is fuelled by deep rooted agendas and secondary socialisation that inevitably creates a subconscious mind that is more susceptible to racial biases. The wider society and government are more or less the ones that need to held accountable as ultimately they filter what and propagate what the mind is fed over sustained periods of time.
