Wearing an hijab is the responsibility of the women, whether she wants to wear it or not, its upto her and thats what the religion says... but i think as male nobody really stares as a women who is wearing a hijab,niqab or a burka particularly and i think women are pretty safe in this cloth... we must come to understand that a great percentage of women are "physically" not "mentally" weaker than man and therefore if she reveals herself to someone other than her husband then i think in most cases she will be harmed by some man because this is how the psychology is... i suppose wearing any sort of cloth that protects your innocence, beauty and self respect is great not only for you but for the whole society. It has already been explained how to understand it by the Prophet himself and the three first generations. Some rulings depending on time and place can be made by the Scholars(true scholars) but it has to be in accordance to the Quran and the Sunnah( prophets tradition). Surah Kahf Verse 28 says: وَلاَ تُطِعْ مَنْ أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُ فُرُطاً “and do not obey him whose heart We have made neglectful of Our remembrance and he follows his own low desires, and his affair has become all excess.” Surah Taha Verse 16 says: فَلاَ يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لاَّ يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ فَتَرْدَي “Therefore let him who believes not in it and follows his own vain desires turn you away from it, lest you perish.” Surah Qasas Verse 50 says: وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًي مِنَ اللَّهِ “and who is more astray than he who follows his own low desire without any guidance from Allah?” Surah Sad Verse 26 says: ‌ِ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَي فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ “and do not follow (vain) desire for it will mislead you from the way of Allah” Surah Mu’minoon Verse 71 says that following one’s desires is the source of corruption in this world: وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ “And if the Truth had followed their low desires, certainly the heavens and the earth, and whoever therein would have perished!”

The woman who said she lived in Middle East and North Africa (that she puts in the “Middle East”, like did the imperialist Britain), she said she was not allowed to go outside by herself, because “she is a woman”. I was born and raised in North Africa and i never heard of such nonsense. Women were and are going outside by themselves, they work, they study, the go around for a walk by themselves without someone telling them they should not be outside by themselves. These women are luring people by giving an ugly image of these countries. It’s never said in the Quran women should not be independent. In the contrary, they could be what they want to be. Maybe she misunderstood, that for her “safety” since her family moved around and did not know the us and customs of the new country and she didn’t know ether what to do by herself, she needs someone to be with her when she goes outside, and this is true also when you’re in America, or any other country in Europe or else where. Just stop from generalizing your own, narrow experiences. Open your eyes, you’re not unique. We have wonderful and comprehensive men and families who at least care and protect.
