It then moved Afro House (in the 2000s), which was even bigger (hence the OG DJs like Oskido, Vini Davinci, DJ Fresh, the new generation - Black Coffee, Sun El Musician, etc.) Then, amapiano mixed the two genres, with Jazz. The outcome is what we have today.

I am Nigerian, growing in the 90s, the album record of FESTAC 77 (Black & African Festival of Arts and culture) was a staple in most homes. I’m Ukrainian and fucking love amapiano for its power, soulness, dance moves (sometimes really hilarious), and fashion style. I think this documentary is missing Kabza de Small, DJ Maphorisa, MFR Souls, Gaba Cannal, and MDU a.k.a TRP, as they’re true originators of the style. Recently, I also became a fan of gqom: it’s a bit like amapiano but even more energetic and, actually, influenced amapiano in the beginning. Long live amapiano and South Africa. Wow I finally know the name of the sound! I first heard it on tiktok last year with a dance trend it was infectious had a Cali /Miami bass/ African rhythm to it. I was addicted! Then I head other songs that didn’t have that US influence and I loved it even more. The more they drop songs the more their creativity is exposed and I can’t wait to see just how far they push it. As a Nigerian, I can feel the spirit, the soul, and the beauty of SA in Amanpiano. When life's weight crushes, just half an hour of listening and dancing to Amanpiano does magic to your mood. It's loudness drowns out the noises in your head, it's log drums get your heart beating with new life. It's soul centers you. I am concerned about the artists speaking about trying to pursue trends and focusing on getting viral dance challenges on tiktok. Not only is it not sustainable, it would taint the realness and richness of the sound.
