I love Amapiano, first track I heard was from Native Soul, that hard knocking bass is just insane. This is something unique and fresh. I'm rooting for SA artists to become big internationally and not Western artists and record companies stealing all their clout and profits.

he's smooth.... but really just spins boring deep house that white people love to act really boosie to while they snort some K and microdose mushrooms. Never goes over 125, and never puts together anything that would keep the floor jumping until close...definitely not at afterhours either. change my mind

DW is obviously the right channel to do this, if we don't consider South Africa which is the capital of Afro House, Berlin has to be the second Capital of Afro House and the work done by the likes of Hyenah deserves special mention. But if you want to know more about Afro house, follow the likes of Da Capo, Enoo Napa, Culoe De Song, Black Motion, Lemon & Herb, Shimza, Caiiro, Kususa, Heavy K, Sun El Musicia, Afro Warriors (Angola) and obviously Hyenah (Berlin, Germany ); and of course Manoo (Lyon, France), MoBlack (Italy) Flyod Lavine (South African based in Berlin), Osunlade (USA)and obviously Black Coffee (Black Coffee is not exactly your typical Afro House producer but he sometimes makes Afro House.

About ten years too late, check out what Boddhi Satva was doing in Brussels/Paris 2012 - 2022 ; KMT in London was doing Afro-house nights since 2009. I even ran a special Afro-House night in Koln during the world cup in 2008 on the day of the game between Portugal v Angola. Afro house was even part of the first wave of music in the early 1990's with Afro-diziak, you just needed to know where to go to find it. Amapiano as its own music rightly emanated from SA, however it is kind of linked to apartheid. SA youth culture did not get the first wave of house, however when they got their computers, invented Kwaito...Also, many of the youth in SA were unaware of what was popping off in Europe, so they think they invented Afro-house. Music is a continual pass the parcel, big shout out to the Angolan kuduro scene and even the Ivorian coupe scene which all produced bewildering beats to keep us amped across the world.

A guy known as Skizo, a Botswana national, made significant contributions to this movement in the 1990s. He was associated with Kalawa Records. Kalawa Records: Also known as Kalawa Jazmee Records, it is an independent South African label that played a crucial role in shaping the musical style later known as Kwaito a form house inspired sound. Formed in 1992, it was founded by Christos Katsaitis, Don Laka, and DJ Oskido. The label’s name is derived from the first two letters of their respective surnames. Over the years, Kalawa Jazmee Records has been home to various influential artists in the South African music scene, including Boom Shaka, Trompies, and more12. Skizo’s involvement adds to the rich tapestry of South African house music legacy.

afro house is literally most depressive sub-genre of electronic music , maybe dark techno is the only one wich is more depressive sounding... why would i go to a club ti listen to depressive music ? im 3 minutes in and i dont hear any "afro house" , tune sounds like progressive house.. and blatant rip-off of Ten Walls style wich he formed years ago . stop inventing new genres, wich is not needed.. everything out of the standard subgenres classifies as Progressive House , simple as that . This entire movie seems somekind of woke equity diversity propaganda, based on pushing narratives and some race .... in the past noone gave shit who you are... if u made good music or good dj, everyone listened to it.. or came to ur party to listen ur set... and thereäs no global rise, US and EU doesnt give a shit, Russia neither, Japan neither, Chinese neither... so what global rise are they talking about ??? go woke, go broke. I guess white people should redefined all the genres as well... "White techno" "White Trance" "White House" "White dnb" "white jungle" and you can go "afro jungle" "afro dnb" "afro house" "afro techno" .... Do you understand how dumb you people sound ?????

Individual did not realize that the afro house sound I'm going to concur that it exhibited itself in the mid-90s in places like DC Philadelphia and New York. A lot of the guys coming out of the UK with various groups stepping into the Philadelphia scene of the 90s and with record labels like 311 records King Britt Productions these things were bringing these beautiful afro house sounds in the mid-90s and influencing others so many others and so you know we have to realize there was even a Specs you could say they were in the 70s that had a afro how sound or afro-funk sound that ended up lending itself to certain samplings of these tracks into the new afro-house sound of you know the 70s 80s 90s to present day

A great documentary with nice filming, artists and selection. However, there’s a huge misinterpretation in mass media between afro house and afro tech house. This documentary is about latter, actually. Afro house came from the tribal New York and Chicago house communities with such artists as David Morales, Ron Trent, and Timmy Regisford. Timmy founded the legendary club Shelter where afterwards a lot of rising afro house artists took place, as well as in other clubs in New York and New Jersey (it should be mentioned AMFlow, Mark Francis, Jihad Muhammad, Doug Gomez, to say the least). This afro house has strong bass drums, soulful vocals, and latin instruments. At the same time, in South Africa there appeared such guys as Black Coffee, Black Motion, Prince Kaybee who made their own afro sound based on deep and soulful house with the kwaito past. Later, due to the tech house impact and ‘light’ sound of SA house overall, it became ‘afro tech’ or afro tech house which went viral in Europe and the USA. Afro tech often has progressive elements (as in trance), while afro house is closer to the deep house roots with a clear rhythm section. Anyway, the straight 4/4 rhythm was widespread in Africa a long time before the house expansion: Ghanaian and Nigerian highlife, Kenyan benga, Congolese soukous, Malian and Guinean scenes from the late ‘80s, modern Mozambican music have that afro house feeling. Everything I wrote is based on my deep long researches in house and African music as a DJ and vinyl shop seller, therefore it has my personal view, but I think it’s necessary to differentiate afro house and afro tech house, as they have their own sounds. Peace and love from Ukraine.

I used to listen to tribal house back in late 90s to early 2000's it was very heavy on percussions. Bob Sinclar, Osunlade, Louis Vega and Kenny Gonzalez, DJ Gregory to name a few. Afro House has the elements of tribal, Deep, Soulful house and those African rhythmic sounds.

Would be nice to have more of this type of uplifting doc. The regular fare on DW is too dark and heavy.

This doccie is extremely late. Before there was Amapiano, there was Afro House. I guess better late than never.
