It was readily apparent that Rodney Dangerfield was telling a joke and attempting to prop up Bill Hicks. I can't understand why Hicks is often described as being 'brave', 'edgy', 'revolutionary', and 'ahead of his time' for attacking such difficult targets as Marky Mark, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, and Billy Ray Cyrus. In another routine, he spends a full ten minutes slating the hard target, who is Debbie Gibson, simply because she had a number one album in the late eighties. Fearless or what?

I've always felt that way about him too. And Carlin. Imagine how he and Carlin would've RIPPED into modern left and right politics? They would be eviscerated into shock. That's what bull shitters who push politics are REALLY scared of. A person with a sharp wit, but with an intelligence of understanding what is going on behind everyone's fake image society performs for everyone else? Like we're all hiding or trying to appease something or someone? Maybe those we are weak to. Maybe our fears. Maybe ourselves. Or maybe? We're scared of being truly who we are meant to be. I was in my early teens when I discovered Bill thanks to a friend and his step dad. After that I discovered George Carlin and downloaded his stuff from BitTorrent lol. Class Clown is one of the best comedy albums ever. As for Bill, I've managed to everything I can manage to get my hands on. Revelations is probably my favourite of his stand up shows.

Yep saw him at Tottenham Court Road, same tour, brilliant, laughed so much it hurt. Filmed by Channel 4 but most the material was unbroadcastable!

He did a lot of now commonly known routines, like about Jesus and the cross and Jacky Onassis and the rifle. i recall he said something about stopping smoking and it will be the death of him. About a year later he was gone 😢

I was fortunate enough to see Bill live just before his major ascendance (to stardom not the heavens!). I was a student at uni, I had barely any idea who he was, he turned up in a full length leather coat with Enter Sandman playing in the background, and it was one of the greatest two hours of my life. Never forget it. Legend.

I caught every gig I could between 1983-92 -- even the ones from his "wasted" period. Had a few phone chats with him and was slowly and casually working my way towards being friends with him. I figured there was no rush -- I had all the time in the world, right? I'll never forget when I got the call that was going around saying, essentially "If you want to send Bill a letter saying how much he means to you, you need to send it right away, cuz he only has a few more days left." I had become pretty good friends with his producer and best friend Kevin Booth by that point, and I began working with their Sacred Cow Productions company shortly after Bill passed. So if you're one of the people who doesn't like the music bed on "Arizona Bay", you can thank me for influencing the decision to at least turn down the volume on the tuneage -- Bill's original mix had it cranked up *way* too loud! BTW, assuming you're in the UK, you may want to try and track down a copy of "Resurrecting Bill" (2000), a very obscure indie flick featuring Wendy Wason ("Tittybangbang") and Kerry Godliman ("After Life") as young Scots lasses who refuse to accept that Bill Hicks is no longer with us and go to great lengths to prove it. Of course, I don't have to tell you that the story doesn't have a happy ending -- for sheer low budget laughs, look for Bill's chopsocky mini-epic "Ninja Bachelor Party" instead...

George Carlin was performing social commentary in the 70s and was arrested for his 7 dirty words bit in 1972. Well, before Bill Hicks was on the scene, and I think the people who say Hicks was a trailblazer aren't giving Carlin the credit he deserves, which is most of it. The most influential comedians of all time are George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and the OG of stand-up comedy, Lenny Bruce.

@@KyleGravesLive I just watched a few youtubes of him and they were painfully un-funny. He was a guy who went to comedy clubs and went on pseudo-intellectual rants about politics and society. I agree with much of what he says, but it doesn't make me laugh. Also, Hicks' whole delivery was just weird to me. His sense of timing was strange and always seemed to distract me from the joke itself. I was surprised by the cult following he gained after his death. Hicks, in my opinion, is a touch overrated. In no way a Bruce or Carlin, even the much older, more miserable George Carlin, who I always considered hilariously funny.

I've never seen this before -- and I've had access to just about every clip of Bill out there since back when we had to pass around tenth-gen VHS copies of his stuff! (It wasn't til years later that I found out that a Hicks tape I compiled and gave to Ed Hamell was the one that made its way into the Rykodisc offices and led to them posthumously releasing Dangerous, Relentless, Arizona Bay and Rant in E Minor on CD!)

It was always kind of awkward doing phone interviews with Bill cuz he would pepper the chat with bits, and I would just lightly chuckle because I already knew all his material by heart. And I could tell he was puzzled as to why his jokes were seemingly bombing, but interrupting him to try to explain myself would have just made things *more* awkward! Our one truly great exchange was: Me: "Bill, did you know Andrew 'Dice' Clay will be performing here the night before you do?" Bill: "Did I know that? Of *course* I knew that: I'm the *antidote!"*

I think he was on this show, as it was a very popular one at the time and he was doing the UK interview gamut around this time, but it is one of my faves of his, as he didn't pull out about 80% of his material, which of course is was excellent, but he was showcasing more of himself in this one, which was refreshing, but this it totally new to me, so thanks for the upload. There is one I came across on YT a good few years ago, a radio interview in Scotland, where he is being himself, with little material of his, and he is hilarious on it.

I had a ticket to see Bill Hicks while I was at Lpool Uni, I couldn't make it so I gave it to a friend, this was Oct 93, I naively said to my friend "No bother, I'll catch him again when tours again" by Feb 94 he was dead 😢😢😢😢😢

Loved you in 1990 used to nick your lines and have people in hysterics. Listening to the radio in 1994 and one of the DJs said "Bill Hicks checked out yesterday" ill never forget that moment i couldnt believe it and in the days before the internet couldnt get any information. Slowly magazine and TV docs came out. I hope you weren't too frightened or in too much pain at the end. I know you had your family around you and your friends near. You didn't die alone od'd in some hotel in nowhere ville. Plenty of time to clear out the old porn collection before mom finds it pal...🤣🤣. You gave me laughter and a left field questioning mind....oh and Bill i found out about the mushroom. Lol. You were right. I now know that time is an illusion and so you are still there in time. Vibrant and full of life and fury! I hope to meet you someday. Probably won't look like you, but ill know. It's just a ride Bill, glad you were on it with us. ✌️
