The story of how the Radio 1 Roadshow came to be. Alan Freeman was the very first host and, in 1997, creator Johnny Beerling and some of the others involved tell how it was brought to life.
The roadshow made its debut in Newquay, on Monday 23 July, 1973.

I went to some of the roadshows at Weston Super Mare in early 80s

Attended a couple on my hometowns seafront of Barry Island, (Mike Read and Gary Davies, iirc). Wasn't really into Radio 1 outside of the Tommy Vance and Alan Freeman rock shows, but they were a great time! Was lucky enough to go to what was essentially a Roadshow on a bigger scale, at Sutton Park for the 25th anniversary, too. Another great time!
