I used to go down to my gran's every Sunday afternoon, and would take great delight in Alan Freeman running down the record chart, which renewed every week. There are few of us who know thar before the inception of Radio 1, the two best radio channels to hear the latest pop music were Radio Caroline, where the likes of Kenny Everett and Tony Blackburn worked; and Radio Luxembourg with its trademark drifting, which you'd have to tune back on station, when you could barely hear the songs. Great nostalgia, great times when entertainments were still too expensive for many.

I was sitting in the County Hotel bar in Taunton,. Somerset, UK in 1974, 17 years olf, lied to get a pint when in walked Alan and sat down beside me with his drink. Lovely charming man, his voice was just like it was on the radio. In the same place my dog bit Harold Wilson's finger when he went to stroke it. Happy memories of the County Hotel!

As one radio presenter to another, thank you for doing this video. His timing with records was superb, knowing when to talk and when not to talk. It is a very difficult target to reach. I remember seeing Alan at the 99 Club in the Bridgford Hotel Nottingham about 1969, one of my favourite haunts at the time. Anyone remember Kurt and Zak? He wasn't the DJ but enjoying a meal with friends. He seemed a great bloke, being interrupted between almost every mouthful of food, signing autographs and saying hello. As to his DJ performances he had a fantastic voice and manner of presentation. Rip Fluff and thank you.

‘Fluff’ Freeman was a legend and part of a great line up of BBC DJs in the 60s/70s and early 80s! He’d turn in his grave to see the ‘Woke’ Lefties that now grace Radio 1 and 2, which is why ratings have declined drastically since the 90s and 2000s. Great video, keep up the great work! Happy Christmas to you and all of the other subscribers! 🎉🎉

Fantastic video and thanks for posting. He, like John Peel and Johnnie Walker played pretty much what they wanted to within reason and said very little in favour of decent music. His rock shows were legendary and he also worked for BFBS and I so much looked forward to listening when overseas. Much missed, and as others have stated a total professional with a great sense of humour. Pity the other clowns on Radio 1 and 2 in the UK cannot remotely follow his professionalism. Keep up the good work Paul - its very much appreciated.

I always liked Fluffs style of DJ'ing (particularly "pick of the pops") and in life I don't think he took himself too seriously. I remember he was on Richard & Judy and was asked about his bi-sexuality...he replied "oh yes, If I could sleep with either of you I wouldn't know which one to choose." Both Richard and Judy were stumped for a response😆

Hi Paul, thanks for visiting Fluff Freeman…I remember him doing a tv ad for Ono washing powder too, also can remember having my little transistor radio to listen to him and the rest of the gang on the Pirate Radio Station out on a ship-Radio Luxemberg, which was exciting at tge time with the different Dj’s! Pick of the Pops was brilliant….with Fluff saying “ welcome pop pickers! With his signature tune then straight into the hits of the week! Can’t remember who it was that gave him the nickname Fluff! 🤔🤔 I didn’t know he was bisexual…….shame his gravestone has lost its writing,..are there any Entertainment people with funds you could contact who might pay to have it redone? Awful shame. Many thanks Paul. Have tried to contact you a couple of times now about items for your unusual things channel, but don’t know where to write !!? Anyway have a great Christmas and a really happy, healthy 2023! Love Helen 🙋‍♀️xx👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄

Thanks for this. Always a big fan of Fluff. Sad to see the gold lettering has largely gone off his memorial. Could not the entertainment industry have it re-gilded for him? Having checked through my cassette tapes of his Sunday afternoon broadcasts of Pick of the pops (late 80's - early 90's), I see that the very short clip that starts this video (0:00 - 0:13) was broadcast on the 30/06/1991.
