Although it sounds like laughing, it isn’t. Hyenas are communicating with each other when they do it. Another example of a sound that is like laughing is from the kookaburra. It’s actually a territorial cry (similar to a lion’s roar in function). It’s a declaration of dominion.

Male Leopards are still very capable, there’s a video where a Leopard actually dragged a Hyena up a tree alive, hence why in a 1 on 1, I don’t think Hyenas would have a chance against a Jaguar. It’s bigger than a leopard, more powerful, much stronger and a much more powerful bite force, even exceeding Hyenas. That being said, bite force may not mean much in a fight. It’s rare that an animal will get the grip needed to apply its maximum force.
