Authorities in Bangladesh have imposed a nationwide curfew, as protests and rioting have continued.
At least 67 people have now died in violence, which was sparked by students calling for the government to axe a rule reserving scores of public jobs for the families of veterans of the country's independence war in 1971.
The prime minister's office announced the curfew after an attack on the Narsingdi prison on Friday saw hundreds of inmates released.
Schools and universities across Bangladesh have also been shut until further notice.

I just spoke to someone in Bangladesh and his close friend is a police officer. Police officer son was shot and when he went to pick up his dead body he discovered they killed close to 600-700 people during the curfew.

Since last three days I have no contact with my family in back home. The govt is killing the innocent students and the ordinary people who are helping students. I can clearly see this US and some fundamilist propaganda. If hasina denies to let them build a military base in Bangladesh, they fund these sorts of protests Who are those 'students' who break a jail and release all the criminals into public? Looks more like someone with power has made them do it. In 2018 Hasina government agreed to remove quota system. One Freedom figher family filed a lawsuit against Hasina government decision and this case is still under court. But at present some students stated protest against this quota system. Which escalated to a violent agitation fueled by opportunist opposition BNP and Islamic fundamentalists groups. Good work done by Hasina government to stop these protesters. How students got gun and bombs in protests? Who is supporting this violence? 50% reservations for women, disabled persons, indigenous tribes and freedom fighters and rest 50% goes according to merit based selection. What is wrong in it? Without reservation system women will never get jobs as Muslim faith do not believe in empowering women. This is so unfortunate to see that Dhaka University students wants to wipe out this inclusive system! This is completely immoral.... Also now protest escalated to anti-India sentiments and hatred towards Hasina government. Students also chanted slogans in support of 'Razakar' the mass murderer group who killed, sheikh Mujib Rahman in open daylight and brutally tortured, raped millions of innocent people during and after Bangladesh war, were equivalent to Nazi group of Germany. Such a disgrace and immoral stand taken by students chanting slogan in support of this Rajakar group. How Dhaka university students got access to guns and bombs! Who is supplying gun and bombs to students? Sorry this is pure bullshit in the name of students protest is a preplanned game by fundamentalists to destablise liberal and democratic Hasina government. Such a disgrace that students nowadays are selfish and illeducated only wants government Jobs.

On Saturday alone, 40 people were reported killed by law enforcement forces on protesters in Dhaka alone. 33 people were killed in the police attack in Jatrabari. Our Dhaka correspondent informed us that 4 people were killed in Shahjadpur and 3 in Sava. Many people who were shot were brought to different hospitals including Dhaka Medical. Dhaka Medical and other hospitals are struggling to provide services to the injured. In the hospital, only the screams of the wounded protestors were heard. Our correspondents say law enforcement officials are preventing the injured from taking them to hospital. Police and BGB members are attacking ambulances and vehicles carrying the injured. Even inside the ambulance there were reports of gunshots. The whole country is now out of network for more than 72 hours. We couldn’t able to contact with our family and friends. Even not getting a single news because of internet shutdown 😢
