As the correspondent states, this was no warehouse but a massive arsenal complex that could have stored up to 30,000 tons of missiles and ammunition, such as artillery, rockets, bombs, and guided missiles. Source is the Russian Defense Ministry itself whose representatives stated that each individual bunker could pack 240 tons and the size of the complex can be viewed on aerial photographs that attest to its scale. When it was newly constructed in 2018 the ministry boasted that the arsenal was built with no expense spared to maximize security and safety to consolidate a strategic stockpile of munitions. What could have hit it is still a question since the hardened bunkers could not have been penetrated by the normal Ukrainian drones (?) and it should have been beyond the range of even Storm Shadow, SCALP, or ATACMS but Russians themselves claim it was a Ukrainian drone attack.

@@andrew30m Let's try to make a quick back-of-the envelope calculation. Let's suppose that the 30kT were exclusively 152mm artillery shells. It is an extremely conservative assumption, as there seems to have been Iskander, S-300, S-400 and other missiles that cost millions a piece. A 152 mm shell weight 51.5 kg, let's say 50 kg for ease of calculation. 30kT therefore means 600'000 shells. We don't know the cost of a ruSSian 152mm shell, but a US 155mm one costs $5000 to manufacture. Let's assume the ruSSian version costs a third. That would put the value of the ammo stored at that depot at 1B$. But it is most certainly much more as a) the 30kT estimate is the lowest of the range, the higher estimate is 90kT, and b) as mentioned, I brought back the whole ammo depot to the simplest and cheapest possible item, 152mm shells. 2-3B$ is probably closer to the truth. The citizens of Russia voted for Putin in the elections. We read your news where you call us orcs and subhumans every day and that was before this war. We have seen for thirty years how you created a military alliance and stole our agreements in order to destroy us. We saw for eight years before the war that you don’t care if Russians are killed in Donbas. If Putin wants to remove something somewhere, he will not be president and I think Medvedev will take his place. My God, our country has not spent a day without sanctions since its inception, you just didn’t care. They simply did not lift the Jackson-Vannik Amendment from Russia, although it was imposed on the USSR. You have never recognized us as people and will not recognize us. Well then. We are ready.

Let's try to make a quick back-of-the envelope calculation. But it is most certainly much more as a) the 30kT estimate is the lowest of the range, the higher estimate is 90kT and possibly more, and b) as mentioned, I brought back the whole ammo depot to the simplest and cheapest possible item, 152mm shells. 2-3B$ is probably closer to the truth. Nice pay-off for a few drones! It is literally several combat-months worth of ammunition that went up in smoke !
@justinwallace390Ай бұрын
I'm hearing close from $20 to $30 million and was a fairly modern facility.
@st-ex8506Ай бұрын
@@justinwallace390 That was just for the facility. The munition that went up in smoke was worth north of $1B (see my other comment and BOTE calculation).
