Italy’s government is planning to criminalise people who travel abroad to have children via surrogacy, which is already banned in the country.
While the majority of Italians who seek surrogacy abroad are believed to be heterosexual, many same-sex parents fear the new law is targeting LGBT families by making it harder for them to have children.
A recent Ipsos poll shows that 45% of Italians oppose the idea of surrogacy, but 45% were also in favour of granting legal recognition for children born via surrogacy.

As a third generation Italian American and a happily married gay man, it makes me sad that I would be looked down upon and my marriage dismissed if I visited my grandparents' homeland. I'm even sadder for LGBTQ Italians who only desire the basic human right of having a family. Seems the current govt in Italy, has turned the clock back about 600 years (or wants to!!), sadly most countries where the 'official' religion is Catholic or other extremes, dominate and control laws & minds to the same end. My own country of origin as part of the Balkans has been Catholic dominated for hundreds and years, and still is - 'church and state' commented with regular ease. My blood family (I was adopted and am also Gay) come from a very small peasant village in the Dinaric Alps, there is no-one in Village even today who is 'not family' in some way. And people were pretty much forced by their religious views to hide their gender identity and sexuality, so it's hard to know actually how many LGBT people existed in the past, but we know they've always been there.

I also don't want to have children so I certainly wouldn't help anyone have children 😂 but I think you're forgetting that there are LGBT people who can have children themselves, and some are in male-female relationships and can also have their own children. There are also people who actually want to be surrogates, and orphans can also exist because of both parents dying, or being abandoned, etc. So there are many ways people can have children, even without surrogacy
