Tell me about it... been through heart operations and have 8 stents. I was awake during all operations and trust me... I wish that to NO ONE! Since last year I've been having anxiety attacks out of the blue which which makes it hard to breathe and I get very nervous. Heart rate and blood pressure rockets. Whenever I get a chance I always tell people to cherish the smallest things in life such as being able to see, hear, speak, have limbs. I thank god everyday I wake up and go to sleep feeling well. Be able to go to work and get home safely. Loved ones are healthy and that we have roof over our heads and food on our table. I even pray when I hear an ambulance, pray for the well being of the person or people who needs that ambulance, to keep them out of harms way. "I don't have everything I want but love everything I have". We need to love and help each other.

Yah but losing his voice, he loses apart of him. Sure he’ll have no tongue, but the lack of a tongue means so many restrictions and things that he has to live without. Speech being the biggest. Imagine not being able to communicate with loved ones to even tell them that you love them. He’s in a way, alone and that must be devastating

She ate some real food for the first time in a year last night, just that alone brought tears to both our eyes. Life is very funny, out of something bad something good can grow. We have big plans for the future and now we have the attitude that its worth the risk, anything and everything is worth the risk.

I had an emergency tracheotomy and when I woke up it was very rough. I could mouth things but it took so long before someone would understand what I said (except for my mom which I’m happy about) and it was almost like I wouldn’t talk because I knew they wouldn’t know what I was trying to say. It’s very lonely.

neve noodle I still have the trach, and getting ready for back surgery soon! They’re wanting me to keep my trach permanently, because I can’t be intubated (that’s what went wrong in my dental surgery that caused the emergency trach, went into cardiac arrest & died for 20 minutes) but I really want to take it out. I miss going under water, not having to deal with all the suctioning, trach care/change, etc. Hoping to figure something out! And I completely understand you. I couldn’t write or type at all really. My mom actually told me when I woke up from my coma and was all drugged up, that I mouthed for her to kill me, and she of course freaked out and said no, and I replied with, “well can the nurses do it?” Lol. Sad but it’s funny to hear back. Hope you’re doing well! I had the same therapy’s, along with physical & occupational! You got this xo

Lost my dad to MSA recently, a disease similar to ALS. He had lost the ability to talk years before he died. We weren't prepared for it so we had no recordings of his voice, and I couldn't remember what he sounded like. I was recently scrolling through the pictures of my phone and found a clip of him laughing(it was somehow uploaded to iCloud). I never had a tight bond with my dad, but it brought tears to my eyes.

@Tressym.
@Tressym. 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately medicine is just not that far advanced yet, and while tongue transplants are being done, they wouldn't do much for him and his ability to speak. To quote an article I found: "In combination with the loss of the voluntary motor activity, this results in a severe obstruction to the patient’s articulation and ingestion of food. The aim of transplanting a donor’s tongue is to compensate for the deficit in volume.” In short, it's meant to fill the void in the mouth that would probably feel weird post-op and might be hard to cope with, but even if he got it he wouldn't be able to taste with the implant, or use fine enough movement with it in order to make all the proper pronunciations when speaking. Sounds with L's or T's for example just wouldn't be possible, try making those sounds yourself without moving your tongue, just not possible. Source: www.newscientist.com/article/dn3964-first-human-tongue-transplant-successful/

Did I not say that it would not affect you or your life, however, if it came down to losing the ability to speak or losing my eyesight again then it can tell you that there would be no question about which I could choose. That does not mean that I think that losing your tongue would be an easy thing to live with or would wish it on anyone.

He should've record himself saying 'I love you' and little things like that Edit: I feel like people are misunderstanding what I meant. He may have recorded sentences, but that only achieves a duplicate voice that isn't entirely his own, his sentences will have a bit of a robotized undertone. When I say he should record himself I meant it as a means to have his true voice on record so he could still tell the people around him that he loves them in a way that sounds genuine. In any means this is just a suggestion nor do I know if he has done so already.

Are we sure he's dead? The first guy you see on a Google search is Midwestern, born in IN, died in MI. Kinda looks like him but this guy sounds like a Mainer, has Patriots stuff on and the obituary lists no wife although he's married here. If he is dead my condolences to his family but I don't think he is.

Bellches100 he has a completely different nose in that picture, and like Andy said, no mention of his wife. It might be him, or a guy with the same name.
@juliad9907

@Bellches100 I don't think it's the same guy- the obituary on google is from the midwest. This man's from MA, he says in the video that he went to a doctor "here in Brockton", and there was a story run on him by VABoston on their Facebook page (he's a vet). If he has passed may he rest in peace, but I don't believe he has.

You don't know what you have until you lose it. It's something I like to live by and it makes the grief of loss a lot less painful. I think the most important thing anybody can do is to spend as much time with their family as they can. Life isn't guaranteed, and you could wake up one day to the news that you've lost a family member. Enjoy every last second and build the best memories you can. You don't want to wait until it's too late and then think to yourself "I could have" or "I should have." Your parents might not be around for your entire life, but your memories with them definitely will, and to me that's what truly matters.

Not true. Without a tongue you would only be able to smell. Taste doesn't rely on smell, it's augmented by it. Smell and taste merge into one. You only really taste things until you've swallowed anyway, hold it in your mouth with or without closing your nose, you don't taste it as much as after you swallow it. Some foods might rely on smell more than taste or vice versa. You can taste drinks even though most of them don't have a smell (except hot ones and alcohol).
@heuvelke1065
@heuvelke1065 6 жыл бұрын
UB3RFR3NZY The foods smell comes loose when it gets wet in your mouth and rises up in your nose. When your nose is blocked from breathing you cant taste Anything besides salty, sweet or bitter. Thats how they learned it to me.

I hope in near future new technology will provide people like Lonnie possibility to have a new tongue which will be able to restore that abilities. Not so long ago noone would even belive in face transplantation and today it's possible, medicine is going forward. Stay well Lonnie, you are a great man. “In 6 days” *looks at publish date, a week ago* “Darn.” Edit: This is a joke, you idiots. The video is only 11 minutes long, so yes I watched the whole thing. K? This channel almost always does a before/after, so obviously they followed his story after he had the surgery.

WOW, you never know what life is going to throw at you. This man is an amazing example of resilience and staying strong in difficult times, I hope his spirit stays happy and fulfilled and that he grows from this and doesn't become overwhelmed or too sad. Good people go through really hard things, and it's not fair but the way you DEAL with it makes such a big difference. Just watching this was so inspiring, he dealt with it so gracefully, he didn't pretend nothing was wrong - but he didn't let it get to him. It inspired me to be grateful for everything I have, and to stay strong in the face of hardship.
