In the first part of our series, ‘Being Muslim in India,’ we explore how the changing social and political environment affects Muslim children. I observed onething.. In Instagram, when there is reels celebrating friendship, people tag their best friends in comments. In North India, i noticed that almost 90% of friend circles do not include people from multiple religions. In South India our public education system and mixed residential environment play a major role in shaping our social interactions.

I am a Muslim from South India and through many ways Ive known how muslims are treated in the North . Here it is a totally different scene . Not only the uneducated people but the also the most orthodox priests of temples and mosques neither preach nor practice communal hatred . In my neighbourhood , it is a matter of the family's prestige that to how many houses of other religion did they send food on festivals . For example , on Eid , it is compulsory for us to distribute sewiyan a sweet dish to all non muslims in our neighbourhood and we recieve many things like puris , murkuls and various dishes from them . I have also observed that here , the more religious you are the more secular tendencies you possess . We have an elderly couple accross the street who despite being old , do puja three times a day and yet are very loving and trustworthy that we leave our housekeys with them whenever we are out for long , the resonating sounds of the bell and the shankh can be heard clearly and five times a day , Azan is called . There are many religious processions throughout the year from both the communities but none of them are intimidating and degrading and harmful whatsoever .There is very little distinction , though in Telugu which is spoken here , the rural amd uneducated people may refer to Muslims as 'Turkollu' which means Turkic people ,which the early muslim ruling elite were . Though there is little discrimination and we ourselves contribute to the local ganesh idol . Overall there is Harmony and Integrity in South with high assimilation and fusion of communities that one of the sultans of Golconda was an accomplished Telugu Poet . Though there are numerous examples throughout India , I only see Southern India as the Successor of Indian Syncretism and the true Ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb and here Fluent and Heavy Telugu and Urdu are not seen as pertaining to a certain community but as a symbol of high culture and status. May God bless the whole Subcontinent with Peace and Prosperity ... Ameen . Hindustan Zindabad

I am not saying that all is well. The problem becomes when slogans like 'Sar tan se juda' and people are killed or lynched. The population of Muslims in India has grown exponentially. I have not seen Indian Muslims becoming refugees and asking for asylum elsewhere. Whatever the politics, if there are enough rational people whi are the majority, then good sense and peace can prevail. India is huge so generalising and stereotyping is not correct. The reporter should have gone to majority Muslim areas in Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, UP, Kashmir and majority Hindu areas where these two xommunities live with each other and then asked these questions. Unfortunately BBC is called Biased Broadcasting Corporation for a good reason. It has really lost the credibility it had even in the UK. If you look at Europe the Muslim minority is creating problems for the Christian majority as the extremists and radicals harrass the locals with no go areas, commiting crimes such as violence, intimidation, sexual assaults, rapes criticising their culture, their way of life but yet choose to migrate there. Recently videos of some Muslims spitting into foods during preparation, licking fruits, flowers before selling to customers has highlighted issues for others to think about. It is a complex problem. For certain Muslims the Constitution of India comes second to Islam. Late president Abdul Kalam was well respected throughout India but so few people were there for his funeral because there were Muslims who did not like him.

I wanna share my experience too. So I was in 10th standard and I was the the only muslim in the class of 48 students. All of them were Islamophobic. My school was near a slum so many bad students were there too. Once a guy named ankush forced me to say jay shri ram and if I won't he'd tear our Qur'an and gave me alot of threats. Meanwhile I was one of the topper students in the class. A girl who was used to sit next to me, another islamophobe used force me to like the political party bjp. I was called a pakistani, terrorist and many bad things in my class. I used to cry everynight. The boys used to mock azan. And everyone use to look at me and laugh. I was very depressed when I was in 10th grade because of all of this.

Is democracy only for a special class of people....There are 57 countries in the world for a special class of people. Out of them, only 10 countries have secularism and the rest have their state religion. You expect secularism from other religions, but a particular class is exempted from it. You can see on KZbin what a particular class of people have done to the condition of the country to which the BBC channel belongs. London was declared Londonistan. We have been their slaves for 800 years... We do not want to be their slaves any more. Allahabad High Court has given a statement on 4th July that the majority of people in India will one day become a minority.And you can also see that in 2001 it was 82% and in 2011 it was 78%. In the coming census you will see that this figure will go down further. The people of South India are so secular because they have never been slaves of perticular class people. I wrote the Word "particular class" above because if I had written the real name, BBC would have deleted my comment.
