Hong Kong Polytechnic University campus has become the latest battleground for long-running anti-government protests.
Subscribe to our channel here: goo.gl/31Q53F
The violence is some of the worst seen during months of unrest in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory.
The protests started over a controversial extradition bill, and have now evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations.
China has warned that "no-one should underestimate [its] will to safeguard its sovereignty and Hong Kong's stability", and its ambassador to the UK said the central government would not sit back and watch if the situation became "uncontrollable".
Hong Kong is a part of China, and the protests are, in part, about the fear that the special freedoms the territory enjoys as a former British colony are being eroded.
International editor Gabriel Gatehouse and cameraman Jack Garland report. Report produced by Warwick Harrington.

Kalau bukan rosmah malaysia masih dijajah british, from what I’ve heard and seen, the rioters destroyed the subway and roads to stop police from moving fast. Yes, I do think it’s unnecessary to burn down and destroy shops/ companies who are Chinese don’t put right support them. I’ve also heard from a source that most of the rioters work in between the riots, that’s why most of them happen during during weekends or around lunch time, or at night. Yes I do think the rioters are causing a lot of harm to the civilians, but they are trying to fight for their rights as humans which commendable, but there are also whys to change the riots/ protests to become less harmful to civilians

Kalau bukan rosmah malaysia masih dijajah british the police shut down the MTR stations so that the protesters don’t escape, the protesters block the road to stop the police advance. Because when they are in the MTR station they try to get out but soon then white triads or mobs attack everyone. That’s not the protesters, ( from my belief ) White Triads or mobs mostly team with the police. I somewhat agree with what you’re saying but the people of Hong Kong and their lives are more important. They have five demands.

@commonhead1844
@commonhead1844 4 жыл бұрын
The purpose pf the bricks is actually to obstruct police officers. The protesters stay behind and when the police charges, the protesters run back whilst the police slow down to make sure they don't trip, although the tear gas canister point is pretty smart.

@@commonhead1844 oh come on.... Tripping hazards? So the protesters will deftly navigate through the bricks but the police will all fumble over them? Really? Those are throwing bricks. Those things are meant to be thrown. Usually at cops.
@commonhead1844
@commonhead1844 4 жыл бұрын
@@notsure7939 Those bricks are not for that purpose. Bricks used for throwing are half bricks located near the front barricades. I know this because I have been at the front and I have helped arrange the bricks. The protesters, when confronting the police, stay behind the bricks. When the protesters are just walking around, obviously they will be more careful, thus slowing them. The same is implied to police officers. When the police sprint at the protesters, they have to slow down to maneuver around them.

When you blame Beijing gov threaten the freedom of HK. LOL, the fact is they never do anything to hurt HK. since 1997, HK doesn't need to pay a penny to gov, they don't need to pay tax or VAT, all money kept in local people. And mainland provides water, electricity, food and capital investment without any condition. Every member of HK gov must be local people. The mainland gov leave HK immediately after the turnover ceremony. They believe the best thing they can do to HK people is leaving this whole land and the whole society to local people's hands. So, today, all big judge in court all from a western country, all media invested by western capital. Look, what they end with?!! They blame the slow development to central gov......And blame lake of freedom.LOL. the local media talk shit about china all the time in HK for decades, none of the policy that have little relationship with the mainland will be pass, every time no matter what is the content, if China, then against. Any independent country will accept those kinds of things happened in their own land? This is because of mainland gov respect HK local people right so much. Now, all these western shit media turn the local disappointed for the economy into hate to mainland China. And keep demonizing China, so disgusting. you are the one who ruined HK, not mainland China.

what the BBC won't tell you as the whole story here: Poly U 's location is on a few main traffic paths and roads. These teenagers want to force other citizens to joining in their protesting, they urge people to do "3 quitting" with them: quit work, quit business, and quit school. That's why they use the campus bridge and building to be forts, block traffic, throw bricks and bombs when citizens tried to pass. One citizen were set on fire and another was hiten to death, multiple were injured. That's why the police come to take back the campus and try to fix the traffic again. Parents and teachers came the night before to try to bring some kids home, that's why the girl in this video cried saying her team left. Those who left were given alert if not leave they will be treated as rioters. But these rioters refused to leave and started to attack the police. Then here is what we see now. Bravo HK polices!

On 9 June, totally a 1 million people came out to join a rally to against hk government forcibly passing a extradition law which will undermine the rule of law in Hong Kong. However, they ignore the voice. On 12 June, the Police used a unacceptable violence including a mass of tear gas to treat the protesters and almost cashed a stampede. I rememeber how honorable the Hong Kong Protests was in the Beginning of the protests. Hongkongers picked up litter on the streets and tipped a mini bar and won the hearts and minds by most who saw anything about it. It have change and I can’t see nothing of that today. Vandals ready to burn down their own city. Reminds of the communists in Chile amd Colombia.

When protestors were battered, beaten up, shot with real bullets, raped and thrown off buildings by the Police, why would you expect anything less than violence? It is an act of self-defence. See, it's easy to sit in the comforts of our homes thousands of miles away, to comment on how people should stick with peaceful protests instead violence confrontations, we could have never understood what they have been through. It is the Chinese government we are talking about, a country that shot up a crowd of students decades ago. Now tell me, what would you do if the Nazis come back today, will you just sit there and shout slogans?

@_Jayonics

And under the surface lies the truth: when you try to take freedom away from people, people are willing to die for these values. Freedom means not being persecuted for your religious beliefs, it means being able to criticize your government without the fear of being locked up, it means not worrying that because you said something bad about your countries leader to that person a long time ago that they could ruin your life by reporting you to the government. Democracy is far from perfect, but communism is much worse. Why do communist governments need propoganda and censorship of information and media to protect their reputation if it so great?
@Strollerist
@Strollerist 4 жыл бұрын
@@_Jayonics You have some very good points. But i cannot fully agree with you. The problem is the most of us actually do not care much about the freedom and its values. As long as we can live happy and satisfied with things we have, whether it is democratic, communist, anarchist or whatever systems dont play any important role in our life. Even though the USA is very proud of their democracy, it does not look perfect or better than any cother countires of the world. From the my point of view, HK does have already too much freedom, which most of the democratic countries around the world dont have. What confuses me is that why do they need more freedom? How those teenagers or protesters profit from it? You are mentioning about the free media and the censorship of the information. How about these fake news? Western medias are the best example of media manipulation and fake news or false propoganda. It is not about the democracy or communism. These systems are not that so important in HKs issue. Hk is just destroying itself with help of media.

I was in the parking garage visible around 5:10 as it went down. Not only did the police handle fire teargas on the protesters all day, they also happened to teargas the reporters and onlookers standing below the parking garage in order to tighten the perimeter. It was saddening to see the campus I was studying at turn into a warzone. There was one highschool teacher I spoke to at that moment. She told me her students were inside fighting alongside other students and there would be nothing she could do to support them. Classes were already suspended by then, but god knows what will happen to them after they were arrested/had their details taken down. Enough rambling though, just wanted to share my experience with this. Great video.

They was told by British colonial government that they are British citizen. But in 1997, before they left, the British government did not say "Sorry, Dreams Over, Actually Hong Kong is part of China, All of you are China Citizen". But the most amazingly, the British colonial government start to teaching the word of democracy and freedom after they know that Hong Kong will not longer the colony of British after 1997.
@Vysair
@Vysair 4 жыл бұрын
This was started by provocateur agent at first (it's a real job where you provoke or ignite the protest into a riot like disguise yourself as protester then go anarchist) and there had been a lot of evidence backing this. Not just that, there had been many evidence against the police torturing, beating up, killing, sent to mainland for concentration camp, assassination, beating up protester dressed up as a protester, etc. For the protester, it was all in the news. Evidence can be found on Reddit (please read comment also and r/HongKong, this is the least cult like reddit unlike pro-government one) and many leaked images online. The protester just wants something akin to independence though they deny fighting this protest for independence. Now, I am expecting a lot of buttnurt chinese and pro-government hating me on this but tbh, both side are bad and just doesnt help at all especially when we are talking about ccp.
