They wear the armband, they do the coin toss, they lift the trophies...but what does a captain actually do?
Whether it be getting 200 ticket requests from players every week, presiding over the fine court, or David Beckham delegating all the dirty work to Gary Neville - Peter Crouch reveals all to Chris Stark and Tom Fordyce.

"Can I swap my Watford tickets for a liverpool ticket, Keano." "Are you mad?!? You think you'll be playing against Liverpool?? After the performance you put in last week, you should be grateful you're getting Watford tickets. Trust me, you don't need a liverpool ticket, we don't want you friends seeing what a dropkick you are, plus you might spend all game on the bench." - Keane

The Beckham Neville thing is hilarious. Almost like a family relationship. I remember something about how Beckham used to go over and stay at Garys for weeks around the time of that World cup where Beckham got sent off. I think Its like a comfort zone to retreat to for him where he trusts it. Cause if your Beckham going around the World, Hollywood stuff, you probably dont trust a lot of people.

What they fail to understand is that leadership is service. Captains are willing to do anything for the team. Nothing is beneath them if it’s in service to the club. When a person above you in the pecking order is willing to go the extra mile for the little things it leaves you with no excuse to not give your all.

In US sports the clubhouse manager or the kit man would be in charge of handing out tickets not a player. Such a weird notion to think of pro players doing this in football. Even university athletes have other people do this for them. I’d pay serious money to see Lebron doing this.

Crazy to believe that modern day football is like this but I suppose at the end of the day, it teaches the modern day footballers about respect and that there's still old school system and Tradition in the game and that they're not just getting paid £60,000+ every week just for kicking a ball around!

@harrykerr6114
@harrykerr6114 3 жыл бұрын
@Y K it’s not meant to be an interview where they ask questions and wait for Crouch to answer. It’s a podcast that meant to be a discussion that they contribute to and I think they do so well. You might think they react too quickly but them stopping him to say “really?” when being told captains hand out the tickets then instigated a better conversation because crouch now knows that people didn’t know that was a thing. It wouldn’t be nearly as fun to listen to if it was just crouch answering single questions the whole time.

I don't understand why Chris doesn't get why the Captain hands out tickets. in Theory the Captain is the senior or most respected player, if you say left this to the kit man to be honest most players take the piss out the kitman and he won't get the respect of the players, that's to say nothing of some other guy in a suit. It needs to be the Captain because he's capable of taking no nonsense from players. Personally i'd just tell guys in advance "Look the ONLY time you'll be able to get extra tickets is if we're playing in or near your hometown and your family if coming to visit, then it's up to YOU to make arrangements with one of the other lads for 1 or both of their tickets and sort it yourself"
