I have never seen the show but man, those final minutes of the clip really hit hard. JFK may have been reckless and selfish privately but in his public life, he really was dedicated to being a public servant to the people. Giving them hope and promise that America and its citizens can be something more which would be what he is largely remembered for. As sad as it is, the JFK assassination was a big factor that helped shaped his legacy so seeing JFK making the choice to sacrifice his own life just so he can restore his image in history is both heartbreaking and tragic. You feel the pain in his voice after pulling the trigger but you also feel a sense of peace when he calmly walks away as he is about to disappear because he knows the myth and fascination that he helped created will do more to inspire the future generations of Americans than he can in his own lifetime. Also I would like to say that whoever played Kennedy in this episode was perfect because they nailed that Boston accent and look of the young and handsome figure we all know him to be

This is by far and away the most serious that Red Dwarf ever plays any moment. This episode stands out as basically the only time they ever attempted proper drama without HEAVY comic relief to back it up, and even then the entire plot of this episode happens because Lister wants to travel back in time to get curry. To contrast, the first episode opens with Lister finding out that the entire crew has been killed, and this is played for laughs as he continually questions whether particular people have died and then accidentally starts eating the dead crew's ashes. Also played for laughs.

There no evidence that Kennedy was seriously considering a withdrawal from Vietnam. In fact in his time Kennedy sent more advisors and protection soldiers to south Vietnam than Eisenhower or Truman. He escalated tensions between north and south Vietnam. He was concerned about a public American loss, concerned about the people of south Vietnam falling under communism, then the domino theory that said if S.Vietnam falls to communism, next will be Laos, Cambodia, Burma, the Philippines etc etc History and public sentiment has allowed President Kennedy to be remembered as an anti vietnam war President. He was not. JFK was murdered and LBJ dramatically raised tensions in Vietnam by turning it into an actual war. Rather than a diplomatic/military effort to protect democracy in south Vietnam from the north, LBJ went on the offensive with North Vietnam. He authorised a draft, and sent over 100,000 troops into Vietnam. John ‘Jack’ Fitzgerald Kennedy’s brother, Senator Robert ‘Bobby’ Francis Kennedy on the other hand was strongly opposed to the war. He made that his main campaign message during 1968 campaign before he was murdered by Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian who wanted to kill Bobby because of his support for Israel.
