It's just like the 1950's and 60's when the Irish labourers waited at street corners in London to get a days work in places like Camden town or Cricklewood. Nothing has changed , history repeats itself.

It still happens today. Even in so called Affluent areas like Richmond upon thames. But, and heres the rub...... it aint just immigrants. I could compile a list right now of at least 20 guys I know, who are on the dole but gather at predesignated points at predetermined times , to be picked up, driven to various building sites where the will be dropped off. At the end of the the week they hand over their paypackets to the driver. He then hands them 90% of their takehome pay. When the driver gets to the workforce leader, he hands over the "takings" and is paid 60% . It is not unusual for a workforce leader to earn £5 k per week in this manner. I do not report this for many reasons. But to me the most important factor is that this grey economy provides a route by which an unemployed person can maintain a certain work ethic. Besides which, it's actually none of my business.

@@paullee5573 Exactly. It is a rough and tumble economy. But it is an economy at the end of the day. I think we can all agree that migrants having proper papers and a safe job and good housing and not being exploited is better than this. But it's just how the world works now. If that's a good or bad thing. I will let you decide. But as you said. At least they are making money is some way. It's not my business what they do with their lives. They are just trying to make ends meat

That's why lots of vulnerable people are still queued inspite of fake ones benefited. I feel sorry for this people. They are hard working, they need to be legalized, and give them stable jobs. I did, around 25 years ago. Difference is, like many at the time I moved from the decaying Thatcherite economy to one with a proper welfare state and properly enforced laws to benefit all levels of society. Oh and a functioning industrial base helps no end. It was tougher for some than it was for others, but nowhere was it as extreme as this. I never used the welfare state directly, but that's the thing - a functioning welfare state pushes the bar up for everyone.

As some one who has had 2 companies in the UK back in the 90's and sold all to go to Europe as finding British workers who can actually do 7 hours productively in a 8 hour day was just too difficult and the last two years I only had foreign workers who I paid above the standard rate for their excellent commitment and work. I now live in the Czech Republic and 7 years ago I returned to UK for work. I spent a year there working as a professional driver in a company that had mostly foreigners working for them as many employed British drivers would often turn up late for work, or not at all. Often they would work until they had earned what they needed for the week and then would turn down jobs. I often drove for up to 18 hours in a 24 hour period ( which is illegal) and took on as many jobs as I could. After a year I returned to CZ and bought a house for cash. I have worked in a company that painted aircraft in the UK and many of the workers were from Europe as the Brits that managed to get employed often did not last longer than two days and their smoke breaks got more numerous as they lost their appetite for the work. Sanding down a 747 for 12 hours at a time is hard work and Brits don't like hard work even though the wages were about £700 to £900 a week. As far as benefits go, the UK should make a change to the law so that if you are on benefits (unemployed) you should work for the council for three days a week cleaning streets, painting and repairing council property, mowing council lawns and sidewalks, etc. and if you have a disability then you can work on a PC or behind a desk or at a help center run by the council.

You seem smart... so use your brain. These people waiting in the corner are obviously not Romanian. Romanian people are either seasonal agency workers, or come here with their families. Until Brexit actually happens, Romanians have the same rights to live and work in the UK as we do. 9:03 Steve may be Hungarian, but he sounds Italian to me, and he is definitely a paid actor. 10:47 I may go there and take some of these compost bags... No security guards... What do you think? LOL! 11:48 Antidote Productions is a super low budget (£2 total shares) micro-company and filed for insolvency in 2018. Livvy Haydock is probably an unpaid apprentice using her own car... Notice the steering wheel at 0:28. Fake news!

@jimbojim Who said that British workers don't work hard? The problem is that all the good ones are taken. There is no difference in pay between real Romanians and British workers in the UK. Only illegals work for less because they have no choice.
@kaba_me
@kaba_me 5 жыл бұрын
@jimbojim No! We need them here. We need workforce to compensate for our low productivity. We have around 600,000 illegals to send home, and that's plenty.
@kaba_me
@kaba_me 5 жыл бұрын
@jimbojim It's not a secret... Automation increases productivity but requires long term investment (bank loans). The other way to do it is by employing more people. People are slower and cost more money on a monthly basis, but require minimal upfront investment. Combining the two is how companies create well paid jobs. CNC operators for example.

The fact that these men stand on the road side for hours a day to provide for their loved ones, in a country that can be hostile and unwelcoming towards their very presence is admirable (I can only imagine the amount of verbal abuse they likely receive on the regular); plus when considering the vast majority of people who sign on for a living, seem to feel it's an unmanageable or unreasonable task to attend their weekly/ biweekly scheduled appointments at the job centre on time. Who's jobs are they stealing.. When our 'job seekers' don't actively look for work and can't commit to a 15 minute appointment let alone hold down a 9-5 Monday through Friday.

What gets me is that the reporter or the BBC seem to think that this is separate from the system. No! It is the system. It is the differential, it is the lack of care, it is the greed and it can be traced right back to how we are all treated like a commodity. It's not alien to our reality- it is all our reality.

You are right it is the system. You hear that you are protected in established business (employee insurance) let anything happen to you while at work. There is the Modern day slavery bill. The Brits can only be jealous of the Arabs and the Russians who are increasing the house prices in London. Claiming people are coming here to take away jobs. A wealthy Arab doing cleaning in London and sleeping rough? which jobs are people taking the ones we have just seen in the clip.

I've given up on feeling like it's entirely wrong for people to do this when they are desperate to find a way for themselves. OUR GOVERNMENT and that which is BEYOND IT PULLING STRINGS is the actual corruption. Things could be so different but we are enslaved. Even the middle classes are being taxed out of existence. There is nothing left in this country to respect in terms of the system save the selfless ones who work to serve us like the nurses teachers postmen servicemen etc yeh and even some of the police who 'get it' (not many these days).Unfortunately much of the time, to effectively perform roles like this in our society you must be an invested stake holder who buys the lie for the most part. Take a look around. Have you seen how many homeless people are on the streets now, how many vacant soulless drug addicts who make up one of the worst epidemics to hit these shores there are, - staring blankly into the abyss with that familiar look of apathy and want of oblivion. It's bad, it's judgment and it's set to get worse. Buckle up!!!!!!

@@onthebeat4466 well that is a hot mess of a comment. Russians are coming in and buying property. Our anger over them is Labour let them in claiming there would be a trickle down effect which idiots like you probably believed. Fact is when a millionaire drinks a cup of tea they have one... Not 50,000 cups. When they buy a car it is just one. Then there is the fact that usually they are non-doms, and therefore don't pay tax. My uncles all undercut the English when doing work. Willing to get paid cash in hand. Taking all the overtime they could and not letting anyone else put their name down for it. In the end people hated them because they had families to and could use some extra money over xmas. I know that my family did not integrate. There is give and take like there is with culture. You cannot just take take take. It isn't slavery. Those guys are earning £350 per week. Which is not bad for work that requires no education or training. The housing will not be an English landlord - which many many many many many TV Shows - including ones by the BBC - have shown this to be the case. In fact they exposed that landlords from Singapore refuse to let to Chinese or Indians. As well as exposed one Indian that was doing this to illegal immigrants. He told the housing officer (who is black) for Hounslow to "go home" and she replied "to Tottenham?" and he got done for poor living conditions, safety issues regarding the electrics and also having 27 people in a 3 bedroom flat only rated for 3 permanent residents. So forgive us for seeing that Russians and Arabs come into London, funding and investing in "regenration" schemes that buy up affordable housing and turn it into luxury apartments costing millions each. i.guim.co.uk/img/static/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2015/2/22/1424625642679/69a823c8-79df-4f78-a0de-75de052180d6-2060x1236.jpeg?width=620&quality=45&auto=format&fit=max&dpr=2&s=f1e53a82b210c7f51a89b9620e72edc8

They risk much more too. If there was a legal job with rights and protections undeniably they would take it. Life is fragile working unprotected. So the desk job (I have the same - a desk job) is sheltered and I would rather pay taxes and contributions to get the protection provided by laws. Beyond anything this is everyone's desire. They meet the demand of employers wanting to cut corners and take from the tax payer and ultimately being the only winners in this illegally.

The sad reality is that many Romanians come to the UK because of the system in Romania and the corrupted government. Unless you're born in a well off family you have very little there. My parents used to live in a 1 room apartment with my nan and myself. Now we are here, living a nice life and getting good education unlike what would've happened in Romania. I've been here since I was 7 yo, 8 years ago and going back to romania to see my friends shows a lot of change. Every year the buildings lose colour, buildings rotting with families living in them, theft and corruption on the daily. Its genuinely horrible. And while I dont agree with the thousands of immigrants coming here, and a need of a system is high, I still think that the EU should track down on all of this and sort a lot of eastern Europe out before entire countries collapse. Currently, many hospitals, schools and entire jobs are in extinction due to the amount of people working abroad, and choosing to leave their home country for a better life.

I don't think you can draw the link between these daily cash in hand jobs to the places these people are living. Clearly they decide to live in such cheap accommodation so they can send as much money home, but if they do have that kind of cash daily they could try and find a house to lodge in or houseshare - not every landlord checks what work you're doing as long as you can pay the rent. It's unstable work but so is a lot of zero hour work and casual jobs. The underlying issue is how long it takes our government systems to process immigrants and often they cannot work until its processed under the official channels. That's what has happened with Afghan refugees having still to wait to work, even very highly skilled individuals.

better pay than min wage jobs in the areas i live in and you wonder why so many stay on benefits. its not just these types, it the people housing them making tons of money, its the employers getting cheaper labour. When you hear about farmers complaining bout leaving the EU cuz they will lose their workers, bollocks to them, they pay agencies like £10 an hr for people and the agencies choose to pay people min wage. Cut out the middle man and these farmers can give a decent pay to Uk people. @Jake Dean the first intelligent reply - far too many eastern European racist idiots making comments here against people in this country. The people in London have been extremely welcoming, so it is is weird reading all these comments against Muslims, Pakistanis and Indians. The very groups which have been very vocal in support of EU citizens, even the Mayor. A very big mistake I believe. Also many recruitment agencies promote jobs in the EU before giving a chance to local people, and rent is no problem when 50 of them are living in a house never mind the local council tax they don't pay. I could go on, but March is fast approaching, so problem solved.

That's been going on for years in the uk.I know a place in Ilford where they wait.Most get £30 a day no tax.Its like the sheds people rent out for people to live in has been going on for year's.The uk is getting near now to a broken economy it's 1.3 trillion in debt and rising.Over 90% of income tax goes to paying just the interest on it to the central bank

They are doing a good job, it was the Irish in the 1950s, the Jamaicans in the 1960s, Asians in the 1970s, they will integrate and new people will come in next decade, someone who needs a hand for a day or two can't hire someone legitimately, cash in hand saves money for the customer and gets the job done quickly,

They are eu citizens, and yes they have papers, they don't speak English and find it hard to integrate in to British working life or environment, they are not all criminals, but very very hard working people who are being extorted and underpaid by British cut throat hustlers who run car washes and construction labour tasks and petty criminality but England does in fact benefit from these peoples hardship but people find it believe but they don't really understand economy and principals

You forget to mention that they are trafficked by their own people, and usually employed by illegal immigrant-run operations. They contribute zip to local economies, with criminals pocketing the money they generate. Great way to turn the UK in to an overcrowded, filthy sink-hole. Just keep the undocumented labour coming, and put a human face on it. But let's just forget the poor UK people. Apparently they don't count!

Charles Barkley Having a "British" Education doesn't guarantee you a high paid job. Especially living in a rural location like myself. Just for your information I had an excellent education and went to college. Trouble is its more "who you know" rather than "what you know" When you and 300 others apply for a job that's slightly above minimum wage the employer/company has no incentive to pay more. Due to a high population and lack in jobs its easy come easy go for employers. So before you start leaving your little smart arse comments why don't we play a little game its called "Go Fuck Yourself" you go first.

Nobody needs to offer jobs like that, British people just need to apply for more. Way too many with nothing to offer who don't even actually grind that hard to look for jobs complain that those Eastern Europens take all the jobs. I see so many bums too, who left school with nothing and didn't ever try to achieve anything later on who obviously nobody wants to employ then they sit there blaming it on foreigners. These foreigners often come from places where if you don't work you don't eat, so they have work ethics that British just don't seem to have. Like poor areas here are just full of people not working and complaining that they're broke whereas in other places you'll see people grinding morning til night making money for their families. These new academies are doing it right with the next generation though, with their zero excuses policies, it'll hopefully make the new generation have better work ethics like foreigners do. These ones now think they're too good to work for minimum wage when they don't have any real qualifications or experience lol.

Those who rant about immigrants fail to realize that so many of them have no control over being born in either war torn or desolate places and that the human survival instinct kicks in and they are willing to do virtually anything to have shelter, food and money. Though I've never been an immigrant, I've heard many of their stories and they are basically all the same. People who are desperate to get out of the situations they're in and live just like everyone else. Can you fault for someone for doing something illegal? Yes. Can you fault them for doing what literally any other human would do? No.
