Buddhism is the key reason why most Thais agree with same-sex marriage. In the past, issues surrounding same-sex couples prevented this law from being passed. These concerns mainly stemmed from parents worrying about the future of same-sex couples: Who will take care of them when they grow older? Will they stay together as a couple into old age? Will they divorce easily? These were the main reasons this law didn’t pass before. Most Thais agree that you can be whoever you want to be. The word “Thai” means free, and in Buddhism, there is no sin associated with being LGBTQ+. On the contrary, Buddhism embraces everyone, as its core teaching is the end of suffering.

For most non-muslim Asian countries, traditions such as these are usually the primary obstacle against. Like parents concerns of same-sex couples not having children to carry family name and what not. Since there really isn't any issue from any of the Asian religions against LGBTQ. Not in Buddhism, not in Chinese folk/taoism, as far as I know, not in Shinto or Hinduism either.

I'm straight man and just told my Brit friends who lived in Thailand for 24 years today that I didn't accept it but I don't against it. As Buddhism middle-age man, they are just human like me. None of my business to put my nose in their stuffs. As long as they do good to family and country as a whole, I'm ok with them. Their life / Their choices. Unless they force us to accept or do sth absurd like what's happening in the West e.g. Pronoun. That's breaking point and cross the line. Thailand give a lot of freedom based on Buddhism practice but we also got severe punishment/action and retaliation to things that's not right or cause social disturbance. Don't push too far or ack like a child who lose control easily when you don't get candy or toys. Be mature and respect others. You can have happy life without hurting others. Do not follow stupid WOKE Cult. It doesn't fly here.

1. Thailand didn't create a new law to legalize same-sex marriage. 2. Instead, it's the amendment to the civil code by replaceing gender specific words to gender neutral words like husband-wife becomes spouses, men-women becomes person-person. 3. It's applied to the whole civil code. 4. Now the marriage between heterosexual couple and homosexual couple are indistinguishable. 5. One partner must be Thai citizen, as per the law (Article 1459, Civil code)

This law was enacted because many people live together and have families. One day, a loved one dies and the other has problems with the assets they have accumulated. These assets often end up in the hands of relatives by law. Therefore, there is a push to enact a law that protects and supports marriages of this group of people, giving them the same rules as regular married couples.

Just because you've received one dish doesn't mean the chefs aren't working on the other dishes on the list.
You guys did a great job on this but the only matter I would like to oppose is the religion aspect. It is true that the actual teachings of buddhism straight from the tripaka neither against nor support the idea of being a lgbtqia+ individual. However, with the interpretation of thai and society toward this typical religion, it was not exactly like that! Myself and a lot of people from community would actually agree to say that religion is one of the biggest struggles on us. And that is actually one of the main reason (excuse) for educational department to use that as to say being a homosexuality is wrong according to the way of Buddhism.

None of Taiwan's government officials report to Beijing. It has its own laws and customs. It hosts its own elections, which are not observed by Chinese officials at all but by locals.
