Same here. I got my first gaming pc a couple years ago, but didn’t really dive in since I grew up with consoles. Just a few months ago I bought Cyberpunk on GOG, then I started downloading a ton of demos during Steam’s Next Feast and Future Games Show and just haven’t looked back. I still play my PS5 a lot, but I really have no use for my Series X anymore. It took a while but I’m slowly switching over to PC gaming being the primary place I play games.

This honestly makes me appreciate my Steam Deck even more. When it was released, Valve went all "it's yours. Do whatever you want with it." and they weren't just talking about the software side of things, but also when it came to the hardware. It all of a sudden became such a weird concept of you buying a piece of tech, and you actually owning it. It really made me double down on PC gaming even more. I've been emulating the original Xbox lately on Xemu with the TruHeXen homebrew for that original UI, and it's been amazing to experience. Even got an original Duke controller hooked up with a USB adapter. PC gaming has truly become my one all be all gaming experience.

Valve recognized the potential of PC as a platform and also the threat of Microsoft monopolising it. As such, they've been working in the background for a really long time to free the PC hardware from having Windows as the dominant OS for gaming. They were working on the Steam Machine with the same principles, and they applied the lessons from its failures to the Steam Deck. People say that Valve does nothing and keeps winning, but if you follow the Linux and FOSS world, you'd know that they've been doing a lot in the background. PC symbolises the freedom and flexibility of hardware, and Valve aims to free it from Microsoft's software to make it a truly a free platform. This is something that Epic Games fails to recognize, which will put their game store in danger in the future.

Nice. I’ve been playing pirated games since my tape loading Atari back in the mid 80s where we’d use tape to tape cassette decks to make copies. I’ve given so much money to games companies over the years I don’t feel at all guilty of getting a few freebies but if a game is really great and a labour of love I’ll always support the publishers financially too.

I was a hardcore console gamer for 20 years. Was excited to buy the Series X when it came out. But as I've gotten older I've become less social and spend more time playing single player games or online games alone. Over the last 2 years I've really started to gravitate towards the PC. On PC I get true 4k/60+ which is something the Series X promised but really hasn't delivered on. I've also grown tired of the online subscription cost just to play online. That is bullshit and I've finally had enough of it. Lastly, the MOD support on PC is ridiculously cool. It adds new life to games that I would have otherwise grown bored with. I've been so happy playing on PC that I'm now in the process of selecting components for a new build specifically for gaming and I'm leaving console behind as my main gaming device.

iv always been a console gamer and tried pc for the first time in 2020 and ended up going back to console cos I got the new Xbox at the time, my partner won a gaming pc 6 months ago and gave me a brand new monitor ,pc , mouse and keyboard a full rtx 4060 set up basically. I then discovered you can use controllers on pc so I can still enjoy my console games on the pc and use mouse and keyboard for my shooters and I haven't looked back at all. i love how you can customise a gaming pc and make it a truly personal rig

Ironic. I’m a console gamer, grew up with them in the 90’s and still love my consoles. A couple years ago I invested in my first gaming PC. It has a 3080 and all the bells and whistles, but I still wasn’t use to playing games on it. Until recently. I bought Cyberpunk and have been loving playing it on my PC, along with checking out all the demos on Steam’s Next Fest and Future Games Show. I still love my consoles, but I think I’m finally seeing all the upsides to gaming on PC.

PC and Steam deck is a great combo, but I really like having physical disc copies that cant be taken away from me. You're absolutely right about being more careful about where you buy your library these days as weve seen publishers outright take content people have payed for to own.

I agree 100% but unfortunately, most services where you buy games are just digital storefronts where you buy a license to play the game. they just hide it deep in their TOS so you cant bring any legal action against them. Physical copies are the way to go!!

@@Hash6624 yea the steam deck is cool but it’s a handheld system and it’s expensive. Still makes more sense for me to play my Xbox. Xbox is more powerful, has quick resume, and has a comfortable controller. I never game on the go. That being said, I’d be interested in a steam home console.

I still love consoles because of how easy they are to use, but gaming on pc, and it's a whole new level: emulators, simulators, backwards compatibility, modding, ultra widescreen, 360 hz… Another gadget that made me feel the same is the Steam Deck. I used to solo game on Playstation and play with friends on PC. When I didn't have anyone to game with I realized I had no games to play solo on PC. It opened my world up to so many different games that I would never have played on Console. Definitely loving my time with it. Plus I got to say when you share a tv it makes a world of difference.

PCs and PC gaming is, at it's core, community and enthusiast driven. People are still playing Dwarf Fortress and populating Doomseeker and Freelancer servers. Modding has gotten way more accessible. It might be hyperbolic but looking at the current landscape it sometimes feels like the last bastion.

PC opens a lot of doors Consoles can't. Been an Xbox player most my life, but games I wanted were locked behind Exclusivity. PC gives me a chance at both Xbox and Playstation titles. Not having to pay to play online is cool too. Modding in particular gives lots of games extra replayability. For something like Halo: MCC, the Steam Workshop gives you a vast network of mods to choose from. PC's def something I'm going to invest more in for how much it offers.

There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to own a console, the issue is having to deal with studios that refuse to stay in their own lane. There's no reason as to why games target 4K on consoles, or some form of checker-board, let alone pushing well beyond the means of the CPU capabilities. Were games, on consoles, targeting 1080p - 1440p with no compromises to performance, meaning it is 2024 and we're seeing more games release 30fps - This is just unacceptable. I don't blame anyone for wanting to ditch consoles, go straight to PC gaming, and this is coming from someone who still games on a 24" 1080p monitor. Give me all the framerates, and the best deals on games.

I don't feel like there is so much limitation using a Series X on a 4K TV... if a game only releases in 30 fps I simply play it on PC. Fortunately those are the exceptions.

I also game on 1080p, even though my card is capable of running on 1440p and 4k, I have also ryzen 7 7800x3d. I love gaming on 1080p because it just makes everything smooth

I bought a nice PC for about $1300. The thing I love most is higher frames 90+ is so nice. I've become a lot more motion sickness sensitive over the years . Higher frames helps eliminate that by making things so much smoother. I run 120fps and love it. Also games are cheaper, more varied and there are more competitors in all spaces. The hardware, pre builts, game stores, they all have multiple competitors. If you own an Xbox you only get the Xbox store. I just got fallout 4 goty for $10 on gog. No other store, even Xbox had it that cheap. Also you are wrong about no issues for gaming. I've run into FAR more problems on my short time heavily pc gaming compared to console gaming.

I have both, a Series X and an expensive gaming laptop. I appreciate that I can do more with my laptop, but there’s a few things I just wish PC gaming made easier. Sometimes just changing resolution I need to look up guides, dig in ini files, whatever. I appreciate that a console just knows to adjust to whatever TV it hooks up to.

I don't know if I count for this but I recently bought a gaming laptop and it's been a blast. I know laptops are kind of eh in the community but I love it and barely touch my Series X these days. Modded Fallout New Vegas is such a blast and I love going back to the command and conquer series as well, a childhood favorite series of mine. I can't wait for the day when I get a full desktop PC, been a blast on PC gaming for the last month.

Pc and ps5 are my go to devices. I love ps exclusives and hate waiting for ports. But for games that come out to other platforms I use pc. So many people seem to think they must only play on one thing as if one platform is best for everything. It’s simply not true, there are so many different types of gamers. With different lifestyles different game interest, different levels of tech savvy etc etc. What’s best is what works best for you.

I'm a PC gamer since a kid, and bought a Series X some years ago, basically to play in the living room. Yes it's possible to setup PC gaming for couch play, but it's kind of a hassle (tried it), nowhere near plug and play as a console. And a Series X gives so much value for the price, silent, good performance, looks neat with a small form factor, well engineered. With Gamepass Ultimate I can play on PC and Xbox, and regarding your comments on ownership, I do buy some games on both platforms as well (and I also own a minimalist physical collection with just a few favorite classics) . I also use Xcloud and GeForce Now from time to time, if needed. This gives me many options, which I like. Not feeling completely stuck on a platform.

Your thoughts about ownership are understandable, you should check out Accursed Farms' recent vids. He recently started a European Citizens Initiative that's focused on games that require connecting to a company server called Stop Killing Games. The goal is to make it so that, after the company decides that the game has reached end of life, that they'll be required to give dedicated server hosting software and/or patching the game to work offline. It's not anything that'll be retroactive, so games that are like that today wouldn't be saved, it's more about future games if anything so the developers have time to adapt to it. Definitely give it look if you can!

just building me a small form factor gaming pc to sit under my tv. besides the points you highlighted, i just enjoy the flexibility of the soft and hard mods you can make and the things you can do outside of gaming with a PC. To have the option to play my old games on my steam library, new triple A titles and emulatef some old school arcade games that I can tune to run to the specs of my TV (LG C1 Oled) was a big factor for me. My ps5 was great but it offered so many roadblocks to ticking all the boxes as a complete system. Helps that PS are now releasing a lot of titles on PC these days.

I switched to PC in December but have found myself recently going back to console either because I have the game on there already or it’s cheaper which is quite rare but it does happen sometimes. Also controller support is not there for some older games and PS3 emulation is still a bit iffy.. I bought Assassins Creed Black Flag cheaper for example. Playing it on PS5. I will definitely be going back to PC to play some games though but I’m happy to have both atm.

I switched to PC from PS4 back in 2017. Switched back to console last year. I just got bored on PC. I don't know if it's just me getting older or not. I just like having my games through one storefront along with all of my trophies in one list. Not a Steam list, EA list, Ubisoft list, etc. Still have my PC for Destiny 2 though.

The combination of the superior performance as well as SONY/PlayStations anti-consumer behavior has been the final for me. Since I got the PC in June, I haven't touched my PS5. Zero regrets.

I really got into pc gaming last gen. I didn't have much money for a console at the time so I bought a cheap used gpu and a controller for my pc and I never looked back. The amount of games I had at my disposal was unmatched. I built a pc strictly for gaming last year and then I also built one for my best friend who wanted to get a PS5 instead and he's loving it. We've been playing Elden Ring with the Seamless Co-op mod which we would not have been able to do console.

I actually grew up past modding at some point and hate anything that involves a second human being in gaming, plus most PC games are optimized for MS Office controllers, also known as Mouse+Keyboard, so I cannot fathom going back to PC after almost 20 years. If I don't own my digital games on steam, then it's the best rentals I've ever gotten. I have friends who have had their steam library for decades. So at the end of the day, I'd rather the affordability/convenience of digital games instead of the ownership of physical games that cost too much. Did this Mutahar guy also talk about the negatives of paying more for a physical games years after launch instead of a digital one? Just bought No Man's Sky for about $20 digitally. PC gaming has actually gotten to the point where it's too late for other platforms to catch up to its library. Even if you exclude emulation and obvious shovelwares, how could any console catch up with a platform with a library that spans 30+ years and hardware that is both backward-compatible and FORWARD-COMPATIBLE? Literally still the only gaming platform with forward-compatible hardware. The introduction of the gaming handheld PC devices in the last decade was the final dealmaker. Now you can bring that 30+ years of video games to play on the go. How can any game console compete with this?

That's the real state of online shooters on consoles now. You just don't know it because unlike the cheating programs that run in-memory on PC, this is an external peripheral and it's undetectable. Consoles have a worse cheating scene, but without the awareness that it's happening.

There's one thing console is better than PC at: the complete absence of micro stutters. Absolute performance is better on PC (higher framerates), but performance STABILITY is better on consoles. Also, 30fps looks acceptable on console, but downright horrific on PC because of poor framepacing. I'd switch back to consoles if I could disable TAA on them.

@@DutchManticore It’s absolutely true. The reasons are there if you care to look into it, Digital Foundry put out a good video explaining it also. Long story short because consoles are made to do one thing, give lower level access to developers and are easier to optimise for it often (not always) results in a consistent 33.3ms frame time. PC whilst technically superior, is a lot more complicated and uses software layers the frame time delivery can vary wildly. 33.3>30.2>35.6>31.4 whilst the console ticks 33.3>33.3>33.3 and looks “smoother” at these low frame rates.

@@haylonix Oh I know about frametimes but you can smoothen the curve with 100% perfection on PC if thats what you want. A frame limiter set to below the 1% lows of your expected FPS will do that. For example if your GPU runs at 130fps in a game, but the 1% lows are at 109fps, then set your fps limiter to 100fps and your frametimes will be 100% flat and consistent.

This must be an age thing. PC gaming - while looking the best it's ever been - is riddled with console ports and other console concepts brought over from platforms that couldn't hang - so they made up a bunch of crap and called it content, like challenges, collectables, and achievements. Now it infects PC gaming as the norm when that used to NOT be the case. Still, there's no way I would ever own a console today - including it's demands for online services.

facts... I've been playing on console for about a decade now. Finally moving back to PC. Console gaming is dead. The fact that you have to pay for online play pisses me off the most. Then you have the overpriced remasters (like the GTA trilogy) that are buggy and not even better than the original (using mods)... For $500 i've decided to buy an RTX 3060 or 4060 laptop that will carry me for the next 5 years. I'll be playing at 1080p medium/high and with options like DLSS i think i can even hit 1440p 60, and 4k 30 on some titles. I'm planning to build a desktop later.

PC gaming is definitely fantastic, but many people online, lie.... or they don't tell you everything. Console players fan boy and lie about consoles and PC gamer's fan boy and lie about PC. IF you are or were a console only gamer, and you make a jump too PC, you need the full truth about the swap. Firstly, many PC purists will say the usual, ''Don't buy a pre build , build your own, it is easy''. Right, firstly, bulls##t..... utter utter bullsh##t. This is something die hard PC owners say, who have been gaming on PC for years. 1. Most people, watch a PC build tutorial on here, think it is like building lego, then try a build for the first time and screw it up. 2. There are incredible companies, that will build a PC for you or have pre built PC's that vary in power that are absolutely brilliant and ideal for a first time user. Also. if you build your own, you need too update drivers etc, this is simple and straight forward, IF you know what you are doing. If you get a company too build your PC or get a DECENT pre built, it is all done for you and ready out the box. The other issue is, if you are someone that plays mainly shooters..... THINK very carefully before making the jump. The issue with online shooters and PC is, the cheat issue... it is rampant, and you can't turn off cheaters on PC, you are forced too play online with them. You will get the idiot PC purist that will say in their anal voice ''Cheating on PC is rare and console is as bad''. Again, bulls##t...... Cheats on console are RARE, so rare in fact, that professional streamers like MrProWestie, Tactical Brit, JackFrags and more, now play CoD on console, because they can turn off crossplay, and these are PRO PC streamers! Cheats on console, are hardware that you attach too your console, and they remove recoil or make semi autos fire full auto. Cheats on PC, are programs that run alongside the game, and give you advanced cheats such as invisibility, invincibility, head lock, wall hacks, fly above the map, below the map and even very advanced cheats that allow you too spawn with your loadout, in games like WZ and have unlimited ammo..... There are so many on PC. R6, BF1, BFV, BF2042, CoD, ARMA, D2, Tarkov and many more are riddled with cheaters, and believe me, I KNOW, because i am a PC gamer and it is ruined by these idiots. When a game won't launch on PC, it can be many reasons why, with a console it is as simple as Check internet Check console is updated/Licenses Check game is updated And that is about it.... With PC, there can be many factors involved, are the licenses of the game up too date, be that Steam, GOG.. whatever. Are your drivers up too date? Can your system handle the game in question? If it is an older game, you need another program installed too use it, have you got it? Have you got active protection on your PC running? I could list a load more. PC gaming is fantastic, the games available old and new, the settings you can make in game too customise your experience it is seriously on another level. But these PC purists make it out too be simple, easy and straightforward.... And if you have NEVER owned or played a PC before, it's anything but. There is a guy on here called DocDark 1985, he was a console fan boy and switched too PC because his chat said ''it was easy and way better''. Well the way better part was true, but he actually made a series on ''Console to PC what i wish i was told''. Watch that before you decide to take the plunge. It is 100% worth it, once you know what you are doing.... But it is a steep learning curve.

There's a reason why PC Players are the Master Race. Okay, jokes aside I've always been a PC only gamer. Explicitly so. People uses to buy consoles because a lot of the titles they developed wound up being console-only. Now that's no longer the case, and it shows. Most of Microsoft's exclusives are being played on Windows, not Xbox. Sony is also starting to move to PC. And, to be perfectly honest, the next console generation might finally kill the PlayStation and Xbox altogether. Microsoft is already mulling over pulling the plug on Xbox as a console and, while the PS5 sold gangbangers it's still nowhere near the success of the PS4. Add to that the fact most games are released buggy and unfinished (plus the DLCs are as expensive as ever) and waiting for a year or two to grab vidya cheap is not a bad option at all. The only standout is Nintendo, but Nintendo is doing Nintendo things, and I don't see their games coming to PC anytime soon. All in all, we're entering the age of PC supremacy, and it's not ending soon.

I bought my Gaming PC already built and all I had to do was power it up and download my preferred store to buy games from. Everything else was installed and ready. So the argument of console's advantage being plug&play is no longer relevant.

@@RicardoCarvalhoPT That's incorrect. What exactly isn't user friendly with Gaming PCs? All of my games are simply press play and game. My drivers manage themselves. Also, let's not try and claim consoles are user friendly. I had to send in my console because it kept getting a disc read error message that I could not fix. Turns out the manufacturer needed to replace a part. A part that isn't available in stores. If my gaming PC has an issue, I can simply fix it myself. So claiming consoles are more user friendly is just false.
