I was teaching a middle school class and on break the kids were playing hang man. One girl said this game looks like it’s from slavery, then she went to google and typed “why is the hangman game related to slavery” and she wouldn’t stop searching till she found an answer. I had to stop her and correct her that that’s not how you search, you can’t search for something based on your bias that has no proof. It made me think that maybe that’s just how we are, we tie ourselves to what we feel is emotionally right. That’s why schools have to teach things like this. We even need to teach adults cause most adults roaming on this internet think like middle school kids.

Um, no. If you know anything about search engines, you'll know that you DO have to search because of the biases of the people that create them. They are NOT based on black Americans paradigms of the life. It's typically white and Asian paradigms and perspectives, so that girl was DEFINITELY right to follow her gut. The impact of bias on the algorithm has been the source of much contention over the last few years too. I literally cannot find information on the internet that used to be readily available because of how the search engines have been manipulated.
