I love how in stargate, Earth goes from an insignificant backwater to the primary power in the galaxy and at no point does it jump the gun and go too far. Every advance is covered in at least one episode, every technology can have its source identified, at no point does earth in stargate just have new tech just... because. It all has an origin abd I love that about it.

Rainman I totally agree. It was a practical slow progression. From Gould shields and engines on the promethesus and rail guns and missiles Would then be given asgard shields and engines. This would carry over to the new battlecruisers with the final gift to the tauri by the asgard their weapons and all their knowledge. I admit that I was sad when the asgard died. In that moment, the humans of earth truly became the FIFTH RACE.

@@adamdubin1276 let's not jump the gun out of nostalgia too much, it's a bit silly Earth becomes a primary power not only in 1 galaxy but 2 and no one on the planet itself even knows about it. It's the reason why although loving SG-1, I couldn't help but to feel let down by it. My impression while watching SG-1 was that they *wanted* to disclose the truth to the population and further develop the story and take it to a new direction, but the budget would need to go up and/or the higher ups wanted it to play safe. So they kept creating episodes coming up with new silly excuses on why no civie could see all the warfare and space activity going on.

One sexy design! The twin fighter/shuttle bays give it that winged look, while the front projection looks like it is the bridge and also missile spaces. My only minor gripe is the "office building" syndrome of the structure on top and off-center of the main mass of the ship. But at least they do cover how the ship can be run from other locations than the command deck.

One feat of those Asgard designed shields that stands out to me is when the Daedalus (with a ZPM installed) frontally tanked the full force of a coronal mass ejection from Lantea's Main Sequence Star- preventing said CME from annihilating the planet Atlantis was on.

(Supposedly those work by stabilizing naquadriah using neutrino field... forcing it to behave predictably.) which in total could output 4 billion kilojoules per milisecond... akka Asgard had 4 PettaWatt power avaiable... on virtually every ship...

Beside i kind of hate the SG production and scenarist when they put such number without understanding what they are throwing . An example we know in space , nuclear explosion are reduced in half in term of power . The Goa'uld buster was put to 1 GT yet when those nuke impacted , we do have a EMP happening . Those EMP proved the nuclear reaction did happen . So either Ha'tak have tanked 500 MT or maybe less but the energy released was enough to wipe out cities with no problem . Now the BC-304 have less advanced reactor than the Asgard but that doesn't mean those energy shield generator are rated from the power output . The reactor send energy to some high energy capacitor that store it and then send those energy to the system that would charge .

Atlantis is technically a ship. I'd still give it the edge over the Daedalus in terms of how advanced it is, though obviously they're rarely able to use it at it's full capacity since that would demolish all tension in the plot.

2 Stargate episodes this week; well as they say, "Comtrya!". The BC-304 Daedalus class is indeed a powerful utilitarian, but also beautiful ship. The product of great triumphs and sacrifices, the class are the "big sticks" that are needed to bring Earth and Humanity into Galactic preeminence. It would be great to see more of these ships on a screen again and see how long until one of them is finally named _Enterprise_ like Jack O'Neill wanted.

The thing I love about the Daedalus class (and the Prometheus) is that they don't feel futuristic. You really get the sensation that we took a few pieces of alien technology and built a ship around them using mostly early 21st century human technology. The displays are mostly LCDs, the pilots use modern flight helmets, and the crews are wearing Air Force BDUs.

One feature of Daedalus is the ship is operating at barely a fraction of its potential. The Asgard systems are far more potent than earth can provide power to exploit. When fitted with a ZPM their abilities become remarkable, even by spacefaring races standards. Future designs may provide more power and thus achieve greater performance but the systems themselves wouldn’t have to be more advanced.

Given that the Asgard final upgrades include a power core roughly equal to a ZPM, it is likely that they will solve this problem at some point, although afaik the power core isn't something they seem to have been able to replicate by the end of the series.

It's also neat how the Asgard tech is integrated smoothly. There's no glitchy bugs from incompatible electrical systems or complicated startup procedures. It all runs smoothly, reliably and consistently. I think the Asgard civilization's greatest achievement was creating bug/glitch-free technology.

Asgard generaly prefered using Neutrion Ion generators - which are essentialy naguadriah reactors where the mostrosity is stabilized by neutrino fields. the cores power was limited to its fuel, it wasnt much but it was still just a computer.

The weapon systems on launch were pretty awfully thought out. No layered defense systems. For example intermediate range vls missiles for anti fighter engagements. The rail guns should be the last line. No capital grade weapons except nukes. If you can design a small rail gun, you can make a large one. Not enough 302's to be worth while.

@@tomtimtomtim Definitely, even after they got their upgrades, they may be exteremly powerful - especially when they are equipped with a ZPM - but they still don't have that layered defense, instead they relay on a powerful shield and Asgard Beam Weapon Combo to win their fights. Unless I am remembering wrong they used the 304's VLS Missiles for anti-capital, along with their Railguns and leaving their 302s as their main anti-fighter element. I also completely agree, not enought 302s, especially with their limited armament.

Stargate, master class in how to build a ship. Everything is sourced though the episodes before it built. Non of the upgrades are treated as golden eggs, need to work for those new toys. And it looks like something earth would build. A reboot/off shoot of stargate is a dream i hope will come true

BC-304's are actually one of the fastest and most powerful ships in any franchise. 2 weeks to travel between galaxies is unheard of and the ability to be anywhere in the milkyway in just a few hours shocks even species in stargate. Fully powered its shields can tank planet destroying mass coronal ejections. Something we see ships in other series fall to, and even then the shields can be depleted by some of the most advanced races weapons like the ori, however its beam cannons can overload and punch threw ori shields as well... putting its output potential at insane levels.

Asgard Warships can do it under half an hour, going from one edge of galaxy to another is issue of minutes... But there is cost - such speed will likely fry the hyperdrives. (as Hermiod pointed out when speeding X304) as you need lot of power to mitigate some stress feedback on the drive. Which isnt a problem if you can have spare parts or just synthesize them on the ship. So risk is worth it. Regular asgard cruise speed seems to be about the ZPM equiped 304.

Most of what you said are rare occasions. 1. Most civilizations the SGC encountered were pre-indistrual. Of course they'd be shocked to hear of a galaxy-travelling spaceship. 2. The 304 covers Milky way to Pegasus in 18 days. An O'Neill class did that in 2 days. 3. The CME episode happened because the Daedalus used Atlantis' only ZPM at the time, to power its shields. Even then, heat bleedthrough was noted as airlocks were blown out. 4. The Asgard plasma beams were Asgard, not human. Before that, reference the Korolev for how 304s fared against Ori Motherships(2 to 4 shots at best). The Odyssey got stl shut down by the first shot.

If you wanted, you could have done the CME Daedalus vs Q-powered enterprise- D for fairness. On speed, there are franchises that rank higher than SG. Halo's forerunners, xeelee, star wars Acclamator class transport(0.6 hyperdrive class), the expanse ring system. Don't encompass everything if you don't know everything. The 304 is fast and powerful in its franchise. That's enough.

I think these ships are like the perfect sci-fi blend of actual Frontline combat ship/brawler and carrier that stays back at range and pecks away with missiles and railguns. There's also no denying their silhouette is unmistakable; nothing else in Sci-fi looks like them. I can't wait to see another Stargate show if the rumours are indeed true, and I hope a Daedalus is in it.

The closest ships by how the design feels is Halo's humanity. And even then you will not mistake one for another. There are occasional ships from other series that have a similar feel to their design but the 304 truly is very unique in how it feels. Please note I am referring to pre 2553 UNSC ships as having a similar feel design wise. The ones from after really feel a lot different.

I fell in love the first time I saw the 304. I never quite warmed up to the 303. It seemed too slapdash to me. Just thrown together like one of my Lego ships I made when I was a kid. The 304 actually looks purpose-built to be a badass.

I believe that was exactly the point, at the time of the 303 the Tau'ri didnt have much experience in space ship design and construction and it really showed. By comparison the 304s are finely honed machines that clearly tell "Lessons Learned" to anyone who looks at them. ^^

The 303 was exactly that. A hodgepodge of parts and technologies from all over the galaxy thrown into a human built shell. The fact that the 304 was developed just a few years after and no other 303 was built showed that it was obsolete before stepping off the launchpad and everyone involved in the program knew it.

Even the vessel in question that we were looking at. But for a SG newbie they wouldn't spoil it, just whet the appetite for what is to come if they settle in and watch the series from the beginning. Seeing us go from tiny figures staring up at pyramid sized starships with MP5s to the dominate military space force in the galaxy who can tank any encounter with a single ship and own any enemy if we brought the whole fleet to bear.

Stargate did it right. By the time we saw even the Prometheus, it felt earned. The SGC and its allies had been through hell, and lost a whole heck of a lot, but had also brought back quite a bit of advanced technology. They forged a close alliance with the advanced Asgard, with both calling on each other several times to save their respective asses, so when, in the season 7 finale, when it became evident that Earth was finally capable of putting up a fight (although the drones helped a lot), it felt like they have finally achieved the Standing Orders of the SGC: Obtain technologies to protect Earth from the Goa'uld and other unknown threats. The 304s made season 8-10 much more versatile, but again, it 1. Was still based around the Stargate, and 2. Felt like a natural progression of the series.

I think it'd be cool that in the future, Earth would supplement their BC fleet with other, cheaper classes. Like destroyers, make them half the size without the hangers but give it plenty of firepower. They wouldn't be as versatile but they'd be easier to produce and can act as escorts of the BC's or be patrol ships.

That's the next logical step in the Stargate: reveal everything to the world. Within a decade or two, there would be shipyards all over the world, building everything from small civilian ships to colony ships to warships of various sizes. The Tau'ri (assuming they didn't splinter and society didn't collapse) would very quickly amass a fleet larger than that of the Jaffa or even the Wraith.

@@Cailus3542 True it does seem that way alright. The danger is like you you save splintering and social disruption from disclosure of the SGC. However, I think while there would be enormous societal shock that might take years to die down, the greater danger is probably the splintering. Sure there was the IOA in Stargate but even then the large nations struck out to build/demand ships themselves almost immediately. Other nations will demand the right to build and use their own spaceships for military and civilian purposes and not all of those nations will be friendly to the United States. Heck, with access to the gate network or FTL ships there is nothing to stop various fringe groups/individuals/nations setting off into galaxy and taking over the poor former slave worlds of the goauld and become tyrants themselves and in time possible rivals to the Earth based powers.

​@@Arclight104 only the large nations would benefit...essentially that means UNSC P5. the us only involved russia and china because they needed them for something(for example, the russian gate). the other nations would have exactly zero leverage to force the larger nations to share any tech or access to FTL or even the gate itself. i mean, what are they going to do? fight them? and by this point the UNSC P5 nations dont need anything from the rest of earth, they dont need your industry or labor or land or resources. tensions on earth between the larger nations would wane initially. afterall there are countless free real estate and resources out there to take, why bother over little islands or fishing zones at home? go out colonize and mine entire worlds. in 50 years the us/eu/russia/china would be operating multi-thousand follow on designs each, at which point the biggest threat is themselves and we get a new cold war but in space .

Man Stargate is hands down one of the most underrated yet greatest sci-fi shows ever

I loved how Stargate showed a slow, methodical buildup between "oh god, we are ants, and we just poked a giant" to "we are one of, if not the, biggest galactic power." You could track each technology, each major development, through the series. While the time tables and balance seemed a bit off (really, earth makes a few ships, and is now "rivalling" an empire that consists of hundreds, if not thousands of planets?) it was still neat to see that progression. My only complaint was that while they showed a massive developmental change when it comes to the "space forces," hardly anything changed throughout the entire series when it comes to the ground forces. The absolute pinnacle of this issue was the P-90s. You are telling me that, over the course of the show, humanity's knowledge of advanced spacefaring technology progressed by hundreds, if not thousands, of years, and not one of those new principles could be applied to the infantry equipment? After this incredible scientific leap forwards, the "cutting edge" weapon was developed before humanity had even made first contact? The show's lore tries to explain it as "the advanced alien technology is only designed to fight other advanced technology, so it can't defend against humanity's primitive technology." That's a really cool concept, I like it, but surely the "advanced alien technology" could be incorporated somehow, right? They could have made a custom gun, that still uses "conventional" technology, but is made with advanced materials, or used that insane computer power and energy-dense batteries to create advanced portable gear. It would have been so cool to see the infantry kit slowly being replaced with sci-fi gear, but instead they are using the technological equivalent of a musket as their "latest and greatest."

Think about our own history of infantry weapons since WW2, they have had a much smaller change than, tanks, planes, warship and other complex systems.

Against Jaffas all they needed was AP ammo to get through body armour. Replicators were known to adapt to anything energy based in matter of few casualities like Borgs do. Kinetic energy was only energy their main forces had no counter to. Humanoid replicators were whole another story and were b*/ch to deal with, but there were only few of them in Milky Way. In Pegasus they were diffrent story, but eventualy even they adapted to Antic's design and Tau'ri versions of that design. Against Anubis's super soldiers SGC eventualy resorted to energy weapons added as an attachments to P-90s. Ori soldiers weren't any better than Jaffas and priors got countered by Anti-Prior Devices functioning as force jammers. Wraiths were same story as Jaffas. The main reason why P-90 and IRL weapons stayed to the end was they were fun to use. With energy weapons actors could only make pew-pew-pew with their mouths, but IRL weapons could at least fire blanks.

What I love is that the SGC starts with the Prometheus, which really looks like humanity's first attempt at a space battle cruiser. But the Daedalus is properly an evolution of that, it still looks like a human-built ship, but more considered.

A neat detail is how the Prometheus and Daedulus class are commanded by Colonels. This is neat because a USAF Colonel is at the same rank grade as a USN Captain. In other words, they're using the *equivalent* of a Navy Captain to command the ships.

The admiral is on the carrier because those ships are designed to be flagships and have extra space to accommodate the admiral's staff. The admiral on board would actually be in charge of all the ships that sail together with the carrier, the carrier strike group.

In my youth, the amount of time I spent arguing on the gateworld forums about this ship, like where the bridge is, it's size, or it's actual designation(BC/DSC) is staggering. The truth is, you can't really determine anything about it, as there is contradicting on-screen evidence for all of these. It goes from 300m to 600+, there are shots where the bridge is on the neck in the middle, and some times in the tower, and its designation was sometimes a battlecruiser, but the apollo was a deep space carrier on it's plaque. Oh those were the days!

You can calculate the ship's size from the bridge set. Or use the source 3D assets. Size is around 650~730m depending on how you size the bridge and if you count the antenna. Biggest hints it's not 300 is that the physical practical F-302's would be unable to even enter the hanger.

Such an iconic ship, and infinitely more beautiful than the Prometheus. The 303 did it's name proud and brought us fire, but Daedalus perfected it, and truly gave humanity wings. Hardest thing about the fan fic I'm writing is figuring how to make sure Earth still makes these magnificent pieces of art with the handful of changes I've made. The Milky Way just wouldn't feel right without these ships patrolling between her stars.

@@aedanbranson It is a crossover fic set in an alternate reality. It focuses on Harry Potter and his friends stumbling on the Glastonbury Cave (with a slight twist) about a year after the war and exploring out from there. I've posted 18 chapters so far on FFN and AO3 with another 10 prewritten as well. Hence the name: Harry Headlines at Glastonbury. The first two 'books' are mostly them completing the Tor Mission, but book three will deal with them going out into the galaxy and interacting with the Asgard, SGC and the Goa'uld. It's quite hard writing for two fandoms at the same time as I have to provide a lot of exposition from both sides to ensure anyone who is only a fan of one fandom understands what is going on from both perspectives. And it becomes so easy to make huge tidal waves in the reality with small actions. Hence why I had to give serious thought to how to ensure humanity still makes the 304s. The SGC are still out there doing their thing, saving the world. But the story does focus mostly on the HP characters, as that is where my fanfiction writing experience currently lies. So not sure how much pure stargate fans will like it compared to HP fans.

I like crossovers that focuses on universes that mesh together naturally due to elements from both of their canon aligning. For example the magic in Harry Potter can easily be explained as neural energy in the Halo universe, thus making those franchises very compatible for a crossovers. Which is unfortunately not the case for Star Gate where most writers either say that it's just magic which messes with Star Gate canon too much, or that it's some quirk of assention.

@@aedanbranson Which is perfectly fine. I write for myself, so even if everyone else hates it at the end of the day I've still pleased me, lol. I personally find the worlds mesh pretty well. The timeline meshes really nicely with HP wrapping up in the first year or two of the SGC. Both involve worlds that are actively hidden from the general populace, explaining why neither are seen from the others perspective in their canons. And the magic is easily explained as similar to the evolutionary talents the Ancients exhibited as they neared ascension. But evolution doesn't just do the same trick twice, so the second time around it becomes magic instead. After all, it's not like strange mental powers are unheard of in SG canon. The Nox for one, and anyone altered to an advanced evolutionary state gets all kinds of freaky mind powers. The only one I've seen used to explain magic in SG that messes with the canon is the idea that magic is the result of the ATA genes. If that is the case, why is Jack in the military and not a wizard? But yeah, if people read it, good. If they don't great. I just like to share the crazy ideas I write out, otherwise they feel kinda wasted just filling up google doc after google doc. lol.

Every other video out there that explore this ship and its preceding Prometheus Class use those wrong dimensions. So thanks for that! Though my only real complain is that you use the Battlecruiser designation for the design instead of its Deep Space Carrier designation used in other sources. The daedalus class battlecruiser.....quite possibly one of the most magnificent ships ever designed in all of scifi. Not only because it looks amazing and has amazing and powerful technology, but also because 10 years of stargate episodes slowly culminated in this crowning achievement brought about by hard work, perseverance and fantastic diplomatic relationships that can be traced back through the entire series. This is why I loved Stargate. Can you imagine having a season 1 character like Sam or Jack, and taking them to the end of the series of the last season, just how mind fucked they'd be with everything they are about to achieve, especially with the Daedalus class ships! Just how much they progressed is mind boggling, but it makes sense on the journey as every technology is gained one way or the other, showed in episodes. Every advancement is explained through multiple story arcs and met races and alliances. Through multiple trails and fails, learning from mistakes. The last season felt nothing like the first, second or third. I miss Stargate... Great video, I've always loved the way the 304 looked. It's up there in my top five sci-fi ships. Along with Voyager from Star Trek. Moya from Farscape and Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect. And a few others I can't recall the names off. (it's been a while since I thought of it.) Love these. They way they were the result season by season of Sta4Gate command getting hold of tech, failing/succeeding. Like one episode where other nations want more influence over StarGate and a Russian Rep pulls aside the Chinese one argu8ng that the US is not only making itself the biggest target, but investing staggering amount trying to make all this tech work, spending tens of billions on a naquadria star drive alone, with no guarantee it will ever work. Then finally the 304s. Big brick like beasts that scream power. A pair of small inner hangers, and the outer pair of bigger hangers for 302 class fighters. Very iconic, but not looking like anyone designed any of it for its look. They look like what you’ld really think the military would develop, and in lore just built up so it could go toe to toe with anything they’ld ever seen.

I only have two notes. 1. The hyperdrive of the Prometheus was first made of salvaged Gould tech yes. But a few years before the Atlantis expedition the Asgard installed a Asgard one. And later on the Daedalus always had the Asgard drive since its first mission was to back up the Atlantis team in another galaxy. The ship could not have gotten there with a Gould hyperdrive. 2 While we saw the last ship made was the Hammond, it could not have been the last ship of the fleet. By now in 2022 the SGC would have had at 13 more ships. As it was said it took about a year to build one. Also after the Asgard gave Earth all its modern tech that would speed up things. The tech would have allowed Earth to just use raw materials and create the components of the ships instead of building them by hand. All they had to do was scan a ship and could produce copies of sections of the ships. And with all the IOA countries wanting ships Home World Command would have a large feet by now.

Stargate the Movie was the first movie my brother, father and myself watched in our new house in 96 and since that moment has been one of my favorite Sci fi series I am literally typing this as I watch SG Universe

The magazine sizes for these ships were wrong because im guessing the magazine published scale pictures without context. Artists make different scale drawings for the models and the magazines have taken the ones they had as the default sizes. One of the artists put up a scale picture on the reddit of the prometheus and it was scaled at 110m, but that is not the default model size of 550m with its 302 bays. Same for the Daedalus. But as for the ships themselves? Forget about the shields and plasma lances. Take any unshielded ship of similar size or bigger, and these ships still slay. Let's take a stalwart class frigate, or halbert class destroyer. Now while their main macs will cause real damage (not as much as people think since autumn classes can take multiple mac rounds.) and you have to be straight on. their secondary weapons are not in the same league as the rail guns on the sg vessels. Those rail guns were designed by the asgard, a detail people are constantly missing. Rail guns designed to help fight against shielded ships. So for perspective. A hatak can tank a gigaton in nuclear ordinance at least, and its shields are still intact, covenant cruiser can at max take two 30 megaton shevas before being destroyed. And then there are their hulls. Both halo ships utilise titanium a armour hulls. Titanium is denser and lighter than steel and almost as strong. And titanium a makes it suited for armour use. The hulls on the SG ships are a naquadah trinium alloy. Naquadah is denser than titanium and has amazing energy properties, and trinium is 100 times lighter than steel yet much stronger. An trinium arrow fired from a wooden bow went straight through bullet proof glass at the sgc. Those hulls are more than capable of taking punishment. And there is the manoeuvrability of the SG ships,. The 304s especially. In a battle against unshielded ships, one to two times their size I'd be picking these ships as well.
