@BC1000Stars3 ай бұрын
@@JuergenAschenbrennerhe had a wife and was a parent to a young family and when lots of other artists at the time were not. Others had their eyes firmly on success and always being in the public eye and music magazines, yet one of Stuart's priorities was his family and being at home with them. Tony Butler was also in this position. While Big Country would have wanted to be as successful as possible, Stuart's family commitments meant that Big Country would invariably miss out on some opportunities that other bands took. That and he was a reluctant pop star. He loved the music side of it, hated the business side of it.

Yes....and for this he has my utmost admiration. His Skids song Blood and Soil is the most overt signal of how rooted he was to land and heritage. 20+years since he left us ...one can hardly imagine how deeply he would be feeling the state of his homelands now. Maybe he was sensitive to how fragile everything was and being powerless to effect the change necessary to divert back to a what-was track ended up channelling that despair on what became a destructive path.

Such an awesome video! A couple of observations: 1) Stuart was in fine voice. Virtually impossible to be such a compelling lead vocalist AND guitarist but he certainly pulled it off. 2) Mark Brescyki is the most underrated drummer of that era. His live playing always sounds like it was multi-tracked and overdubbed simply because he plays like he has four arms. 3) Adding keyboards to BC is like adding tuna fish to a peanut butter sandwich. Actually doesn't taste too bad . . . but why would anyone on earth even consider doing it? 4) Bruce's "Beetlejuice" period was FIRE. :-) Thanks for posting this!
@Mudge072 жыл бұрын
If you look at BC’s earlier incarnation as a 5-piece you’ll find Pete Wishart on keyboards. So the renowned, popular 4-piece, although prevalent, wasn’t there from the off. I won’t knock the musicianship of the bigger arrangement, although the return of keyboards didn’t persist. Porrohman’s introduction parts seem particularly lost in stark, chime tones rather than the full-fluttering E-bow only versions. I also appreciate many see less, is more.

Big Country during their push to become industry rock stars, produced by Peter Wolf. Can't blame 'em, but despite the John Tesh keyboards, this was an amazing show, with incredible energy. The audience was hungry for rock and roll, the boys delivered and the crowd was so appreciative. Thanks for sharing this milestone of a performance, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will do so again in the future, though I can't help laughing at the sound of those cheesy keyboards- nothing against the keyboard player, though he did screw up a few times; it was probably tough for him to fit his parts into such a tightly knit set, which the original members knew backwards and forwards.
