A 50/200 zero works for me. Just hold 2-3 inches high at closer distances, 2-3 inches low at 100 yards. Very easy to remember.
@ForTehNguyen

same here, 25 yard zero sucks because you have to do a huge hold under at certain distances. 50 yard is pretty much point and shoot to 250 yards

33 yard zero ALL THE WAY. If you are curious why 33 yards, watch the video about it that Sean did on his channel. Vigilance Elite. Basically, the 33 yard zero gives you the smallest deviation between your POA to your POI at every distance from point blank range out to 300 yards (all of your rounds will land within a space about as big as a CD. The 50/200 yard zero gives you a really small deviation from POA to POI until you push out past that 200 yard mark. Then you have massive hold overs you have to remember or you’ll be super low. Check out the vid Sean did on Vigilance Elite if I’m not making sense.. Its worth a watch for any AR shooter.

I like the 36 yard zero for my carbine, picked it up from another ops guy who explained it as keeping a CD size drop or rise all the way out to 300. So, point of aim to point of impact is torso out to 300 without having to put BD thought into it, then from there HEAD-HAT method for 400-500 respectively. It seems to work well for my setup which is a BCM 14.5". for close up shots, under 25y, just remember height over bore.

Awesome video Larry. If you zero at 36yd with most AR’s in 5.56 it will give you a very reasonable spread out to about 250yds. Same thing with a 50yd zero, but obviously slightly different trajectories. Those 2 are the most popular that I’ve seen. Shawn Ryan @ Vigilance Elite likes a 36yd zero and he has a video on it, and John Lovell from Warrior Poet Society advocated a 50yd zero and also has a video on it. Their videos will show actual data of where the POI is with their respective 36 and 50yd zeros at different ranges out to about 300. I would highly recommend someone who is looking for a good zero for their AR check these videos out. They’ll probably help you decide where you wanna be.

Love vickers ! Just bought a BCM BCG for my Ar15 it started life as a DB15 MZB .... bought it before my state started banning things .. was the best I could get at that moment .... bcm bcg will be here tomo or the next day ... then I plan to buy a nice barrel and gas block, although it won’t look as sweet as what Mr.Vickers had in the video the guys of the gun will be more reliable.

I run a 1-6X24 SFP MOA scope on my main battle rifle which actually makes figuring this out pretty easy. I'm pretty comfortable out to 50 yards on 1X on a silhouette target. With a 100 yard zero I shoot at CQB, 25, and 50 yard distances to find out what my reticle hold/offset is with my optic. With the offset iron sights I do the same thing I just have to make an educated guess in actual use after testing not having the designated hash marks of the scope.

One thing that is important for new shooters to understand is that during the trajectory of a bullet, point of aim will equal point of impact two times. For example, if you zero at 50 yards, your are also zeroed at 200. You should Google bullet trajectory charts for your load and barrel length and use what works for you. Thanks LAV.

50/200 M zero makes the MOST sense for a civilian owned General Purpose rifle, especially in the home defense role. Why 50/200? Because it's the easiest to find information online, not just with the mechanics of the zero itself, but the offsets required at shorter or longer distances.
@JohnGatesIII
@JohnGatesIII 3 жыл бұрын
@@KenDavis-uo8kq M1A, in 7.62, has a possible range of 800M+; SOCOM maybe 500M because of the shorter barrel. There's got to be something on-line for zeroing the M14/M1A. What are you going to use the rifle for? Mission drives everything else.
@rodneyalaking8241
@rodneyalaking8241 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. In a defensive scenario, you can aim center mass from point blank all the way to out to 200 (or a bit more) and get good hits.

I zero my rifles differently depending on barrel length. My 16 inch barrels are 100 yard zero, my 14.5 and 13.9 inch is a 50 yard zero and my MK18 10.3 barrel is a 36 yard zero. I know some think I’m ridiculous for doing that and maybe I am but it works for me and for how I use the rifles. The 10.3 is home defense. The 14.5 and 13.9 are truck guns and the 16 inch ones are for longer range stuff however truthfully I don’t use them much anymore. I might bring them out when we start killing commies lol. Great video as always Larry. Thank you!
