Well what I use is a jjb30 passive pickup, no barn door,no quack, into an empress para eq , simple and suits me perfectly. I have had Fishmans, Baggs of every description over the years and since changing to this system have now installed jjb30 in all my acoustics and couldn't be happier. No more batteries and can leave my guitar plugged in all night long. Now if someone can come up with a wood block to fill in the barn door holes left in my guitars from onboard preamps I'd be in heaven.🤙

IRs are game changers for amplifying acoustic guitars. They still don’t sound as good as a properly mixed guitar but they have none of the hassles and limitations that come with mics. To my ears , the D28 was the clearest for your guitar. All the others appeared to suffer with minor distortion issues. Bottom line is that a lot of tone lies in your fingers as how you play also has a massive effect on the final sound. Something I’m still working on!

How did you create the IR? Because if you would play (and tap) your guitar from lowest to highest and use that piezo recording as your input sweep, and then convolve it into what your mojave mic picked up (you can use voxengo deconvolver for this) it would sound much more convincing. Even better if you do it 2 times with differend mic positions and pan them left/right. Can even use a subtle autopanner to give it a little bit of simulated movement because an IR sounds very static, it's a snapshot after all

IR is great. I never liked Fishman pickups. I bought rack gear and learned how to use it, specifically to fix that harsh quacky sound. I play a Martin OM 28 with a KnK passive pickup system now. No battery required. No hole in my nice guitar, and it sounds so much better. I use an original 20 yr old Yamaha AG Stomp, because it is still better. It has everything and a kitchen sink. I run that into a Roland AC60, and export a plug from the sub output in the back of the Roland into a small Ampeg keyboard/bass amp. The Roland divides the frequencies to the appropriate cabinet. I can run my electric guitar modeler, a drum machine, my vocals, acoustic guitar, a real or simulated bass guitar, or keyboard all through one small rig, at the same time. There are few pedals, few connections, easy to transport. I can plug into a pa and use my rig as a monitor. I could also mic those cabinets. Fishman amps are also unnatural sounding, especially the vocal channel, and you can't connect to a small bass amp and double the size of your sound.

I never understood using a blend with irs. It’s not like other effects. For example why would I want to blend a dry amp head with the sound of a speaker cabinet. That’s not how we listen to them normally. Same applies to an acoustic. The ir simulates the “mic in a room” sound. Why would I want to blend the piezo sound with that? Does this pedal completely digitise the guitar signal, then alter it before converting it back to analogue? It would be interesting to hear how it sounds at a live show. Also, I really dislike piezo quack and prefer magnetic sound hole pickups for my acoustic guitars, but I'm always looking for that "better" sound. How would this pedal work with a magnetic pickup?

I'm honestly not sure on the technical side.. Sorry...I do use it for my solo/duo shows, and I think it pretty much sounds like the examples in the video...I believe the IR's that are built in are meant to be paired with a piezo....I haven't tried it with a magnetic pickup, but I don't think it would be as good, unless you find some IR's specific to a magnetic pickup... I think most reputable music sites and Amazon have a good return policy, and the pedal honestly is not that much, which is why I originally went with it... Best wishes...🎶🎸

I get it .. Just another option or tool for those trying to get a good acoustic sound playing live.... Trying to mic in a live situation can be tricky! ..✌️🎸🎵🎶

Neither the Fishman pickup *nor* the IR sounds anywhere NEAR AS good as either of the microphones! I’ve done dozens of shows over the past 20 years with a Martin D-18 and an instrument mic … I’ve *never* experienced a feedback issue. This device looks to me like a solution in search of a problem.

I perform over 200 gigs a year in places where using a mic is impractical and impossible. This devise would work very well for me.

@@bcmusic71 Well, I grew up on the singer/songwriters of the early 70s (Jackson Browne, Fogelberg, James Taylor, et al) and they all played Martins.

Been playing since 1975. I have gone through a bunch of guitars over the decades, from Guild to Cortez to Yamaha to Gibson to Epiphone to Martin. I currently play the 2000 Martin DCME my wife bought me new for my birthday in 2000. As for the IR pedal, most of the mixes weren't great to my ear (via Jabra noise cancelling headset). The built-in Fishman pickup is great; the most appealing IR setting was the Martin D28 since it seemed to capture the rich tones - both low and high. The other settings seemed like they compromised the natural sound of your Martin. The Takamine setting was probably the worst since it sounded like you stuffed a pillow in the sound hole. It seemed to destroy all of the acoustic dynamics. A good Martin -- yours is gorgeous -- doesn't really need much help to adjust its sound. I have used many pedals on my Martin over the years and I consistently come back to a straight feed from the built-in pickup/preamp.

😁 thank you... Cool you play a Martin too!...I do love mine... And I agree, the internal pickup sounds great.... Not sure why the Takamine sounds so muffled....I didn't alter it, promise 😂.... Thanks for your great response 🎶🎵🎸 this Martin has an internal circuit in it too where when you tap on the body, it picks it up, and you can control how much..I really like that too, for solo stuff...

@@bcmusic71 Yeah, it sounds rich (on my computer speaker anyhow...) and seems the best for vocal accompaniment, without overpowering the singing.

I didn’t like any of the samples Only acoustic pick up I use that gives a faithful sound through PA or amp is the Seymour Duncan woody SA3HC. I have the expensive LR Baggs mic system in one of my guitars and it does not come close the the woody

I don’t think IR’s are the way to at all. I have purchased several quality ones in the past and wasn’t impressed by the results. Just put a great system in like a LR Baggs HiFI, the latest HiFi Duet or Anthem SL.

I don’t think this is working as intended. I use an IR on my Hx stomp and the IR sounds considerably better. You may want to consider checking your settings.
