The reason why he does 2 rows apart bc BCS made this Hiller/Furrower attachment not wide enough (maximum space between rows is apprx 21 inches) for the tiller to fit between the rows (Width of tiller blades is apprx 26 inches). So he makes two rows to make it easier for the tiller to fit between his rows of crops to mitigate weed growth between those rows. I know this from experience. BCS made a big measurement error when making this attachment.

Question: why to use ridger at all? Just for drainage ? Why not tile two lines in this case and that's it?

@@shambu2012 to remove weeds, and some sort of potatoes grow more eateable plants if you give them extra dirt earth + if you don't go deap enough you increase chance for disease, and might end up poisonous potatoes that are not eateable in worst case scenario... P.S not native English speaker

I don't own a BCS (wish I did) but I own several Troybilt Horse Tillers. Their Hiller Wings are just as wide as the machine leaving a natural 36" center hill to hill. But in all cases, I find this is too narrowly spaced to be able to till or use the HF to bring dirt to the hills without getting into the edges of any plant that bushes out at all. I've compensated with using a Narrower Pony HF later in the year but I've often been tempted to forego the middle row but in the smaller garden where I use the tiller, I would be giving up too much space. I also use a David Bradley and a couple of Farmall Tractors out where I have the room to work with them.

@@shambu2012 I live in NE Texas and our winters and springs tend to be really wet. If I didn't raise a bed, my onions and potatoes would often rot. Later in the year and for other crops, I plant ground Level.

how many hp this machine...? it looks like when it is deep, he pushes a lot of his effort...and he seems very tired?

6 HP - It's the 710 Model which is the smallest model. The larger units with more HP and larger tires would probably work better using less effort, we just wanted to show it would work on the smallest unit too.

@@stollerlawngarden3653 He has the handlebars set way too high. An easy job made difficult!

@@stollerlawngarden3653 you have the right tool for the Job, your handlebars need adjustment, you’re in to high a gear and to be honest you probably need the wheel weight kit. They’re great machines I have a 716 and it’s almost as good as my 2 gravely’s

can you dig up the potatoes with the hiller, but run with the tiller out of gear?
@stollerlawngarden3653

You may be able to, but the potato digger attachment most likely works much better. It's not too expensive, especially if you do a lot of potatoes.

And that’s first gear. I have a 737 and it needs to go a lot slower.
@stollerlawngarden3653

Most of the time the first gear seems really slow, but depending on the attachment or what you are doing it can seem fast. Other times using attachments in third gear still seems way to slow. They do make a hydrostatic model now so you can more precisely choose your desired speed.

No, we just used the rest of the yard to play in. Perhaps in the future we will use it for animals or fruit trees.

Adjust your handles down. Waaaay too high for your height.

It really is a nice feature to easily move down the handle bar with the pull of a lever to accommodate for various heights. I guess he chose to do it a little higher, but it still worked well!

The price is about $3000-$3500. Maybe a little cheaper if you buy it during one of their sales.
