It's nice to have the autohelm control close to the helm...I still run back and forth to turn it on or place it on standby, but thankfully i can beep course adjustments with a remote at the helm. Thanks for sharing and love the new gauges.
@lifeislikesailing7 жыл бұрын
Oh yes a remote would be handy for course adjustments, but I sure do love having the unit so close I don't even have to get up from my seat. :) Glad you enjoyed the video! :)

You really take good care of that boat. It really shows. Sure there's a scratch here or there - but she seems very reliable, and ready to sail about anywhere. Just a side note - some of us (and I think a lot of us) would really like more info on some of the nuts and bolts of sailing. Like - marina life, eddicuite when working on your boat as far as dust and noise. How to pick a marina that is DIY friendly vs some place that wants to have their workers do everything. You know - the boring stuff!

Thanks, I enjoy taking care of her and she has taken me to many amazing places so far! :) Those area all good topics for sure and I have some older videos that touch on some of those things. Check them out.

Good maintenance is just so important, in the end it can save heaps, as you did clearly demonstrate. It will be interesting to see what you invent for future videos now that the real cold is coming.

It sure is important and I don't mind doing it at least. :) I'm sure I'll get up to ta few things this winter. :)

Your canopy may have made the train horns sound louder. It would catch the horn sound and reflect it towards the cockpit floor and companionway. We recently picked up a Raymarine product for our sailboat. They feel very solid and well built. Our sailboat is a Venture 25 foot trailerable. We sail on the St.Johns River and Florida Intercostal, so we picked up a Raymarine Dragonfly 7 Pro. Raymarine was offering a $200 rebate and West Marine had a sale that was $100 off, so we ended up paying $300 for it. We also got a members coupon from West Marine for buying it there, and that coupon was used with other coupons, which went for a new Shroud Turnbuckle, we ended up paying $7 for the turnbuckle. We have not installed it yet and I am not sure how well some of the features will work on a boat with a keel. Beautiful work Alfy. Regarding Raymarine: Consider adding a Raymarine Axiom 7" GPS or bigger flat-screen touch display unit at the helm. The new Axiom software update allows you to completely control your autohelm from the touch screen through the network. Its very nice. Pick a point on your screen and press "goto" and your autohelm will take you there. I downloaded the upgraded software this week and was very surprised and happy with the new features. The Axiom display will also sync with your phone or iPad and allow you to control and see the screen remotely.

Is that Ray Liotta at the 1m mark? 😉😂 Seriously, your boat looks stunning, you should be proud and it's obvious that you love it. I just found your channel and subbed. I was sailing a 1978 C&C 34 this weekend and while it was in good condition and sailed well yours looks practically brand new. Even the red line looked new. I was told that the one I was on had crossed the Pacific. Fair winds and I hope that winter passes quickly for you!

haha, many people have told me that I resemble him. :) So glad you found my channel and thanks for subscribing! Nice that you have been on a C&C 34 so you have enjoyed how well they perform on the water. I have always enjoyed putting lots of work into keeping mine is the best condition I can. :) I plan on crossing the Pacific eventually so it is nice to hear that another one has done it! If I still have this boat when that time comes, I will definitely do it in this boat. Fair winds to you too! :)

Life is Like Sailing - she sailed very nicely. I spent an hour at the helm and had a great time. Some people question the feasibility of using a C&C for offshore cruising but correctly prepared she is more than capable of completing long passages. I'll be buying my cruiser in the next year and plan to sail it to many places. Hopefully we'll share an anchorage one day. I'll go back and binge watch all of your other videos when I have a little more time. All the very best!

Thanks for the update. That's a massive tide difference. The new anti foul paint colour looks good. Is your depth sounder forward looking as the location you showed seemed to be at an angle? Looking forward to your next video already.
@lifeislikesailing7 жыл бұрын
Always nice to get new paint on the bottom and clean up a few other things that need doing while on the hard. :) The transducer is actually barely at an angle in that location and from what I was told it is in a good location on the bottom of the hull for sounding the right direction. :) Stay tuned for more!

Once again, She is a Beauty! inside and out, you have done a great job with her. Will there ever be offshore passages in the future?
@RoanokeParanormal7 жыл бұрын
the keel looks more for sailing the cost then for offshore
@dgourdine507 жыл бұрын
I can understand that though. However, Webb Chiles is doing a circumnavigation on a Moore 24. Not saying Alfy should, but I think he could make it to Hawaii, if he wanted to.
@lifeislikesailing7 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I have definitely considered taking s/v Moonshine for offshore passages! Many boats that have fin keels and spade rudders have done it. Just have to be cautious with weather, but passages are faster. :)
