Wonderful filming! You might consider as a topic the video equipment you use. A Freedom 28 cat-ketch here, based in Kingston, WA, used as a support boat for the Tribal canoe journeys every summer. -Tom

Glad you enjoyed it and great to hear you take part in the canoe journeys, I have done some canoe journeys myself many years ago on BC's north coast. :) I have touched on equipment used many years ago and still using the same equipment. :)

We live on Protection Island and the day you were anchored in the harbour was the annual PI360 race. I sailed with another island resident and we sailed right past Northern Dancer during the race. At 6:19 you can see the skipper returning to his house after the race. At first I thought I’d seen myself in the video but alas I wasn’t aboard at that time.

You cannot scrape the tubes with the scraper can you?? Beautiful dinghy. Bowsprit guard solution is brilliant. We are looking at an Highfields lightweight 290SS, could we live with a 260??? !!! What is yours and what would you comment on it? We do not have your type of luxury ( . ;-) . ) we only have 34 ft loa! L I, and many, say' great video, well done. I am going to say, thank you. Your channel is informative, honest, the videos are recent so we (I) feel if/when I make a comment it could almost be useful to you. Many channels just post videos that are 3 months old and wants $$ for viewing them. They provide no valuable information, just their "experience". Thank you for an honest channel. Cheers, a.

Thank you and we are so glad to hear you enjoy seeing our sailing adventures through our camera lens. We do our best to keep it genuine, informative, and interesting for everyone to enjoy, and although I have no issues about people monetizing or having Patreon, it just isn't what we want. We want our content to be enjoyed with minimal interruptions and not applying any financial pressure to the viewers. :) We like our Highfield, although it is a bit of an older model. It is 10ft with the aluminum hull, not sure of the exact model? I would recommend Highfield to anyone that is considering one. Scrapers on the hull, and very carefully used the side edge of the scraper for the very small part of the tube that was dirty. Our last boat that we had for over a decade was 34ft, nothing wrong with a boat that length! :)
@philgray1023 Жыл бұрын
I would go for the biggest Highfield you can manage comfortably. The tube size is what makes them very safe. We have the 310 classic which is a bit heavy to deal with on beaches, but we were rescuing a turtle from an achor chain in 1 metre waves at night, and was I pleased I had the big front tubes. Kept us safe and got the big turtle free too.

I’m curious. Did Blackline ever suggest you remove the bowsprit in favour of a single headsail? I’m not sure if Blackline supported changing a friends Westsail from a cutter to a sloop but they did replace the standing rigging after my friend removed the bowsprit.
@lifeislikesailing Жыл бұрын
That was never suggested by them for our refit. Our stay sail is very small compared to our yankee sail so that is something I would never have even thought of doing to our boat, plus we love the bowsprit for many reasons. Interesting that your friend did it to his Westsail though.
@donb4386 Жыл бұрын
@@lifeislikesailing I think my friend got some very bad advice. I’m sure it wasn’t from Blackline. They’ve got a pretty good rep around here and that’s an amazing job they did on your bowsprit. I hope Devlin and the rest of your family did not suffer badly from the fires. I was evacuated during the 2013 southern Alberta flood and appreciate how unsettling that can be.
@lifeislikesailing Жыл бұрын
Ya I can't imagine changing sail plan to that degree and I can't imagine Blackline ever suggesting it. I wonder how your friend feels about having done that and the performance of his boat now? Blackline are pretty much the leaders in the industry here in my opinion. :). Everyone got out in time for the fires and scary time for all the people dealing with fires this season! Sorry to hear you had to deal with the same back in 2013. :( @@donb4386

@@lifeislikesailing He just received his new sails (UK Sails) and plans on shortening the boom to fit the high aspect sails. Another mistake in my opinion but it’s not my boat. I didn’t lose my house and was insured for all the damage so that was good, however it was such a long haul watching the community trying to rebuild. That hangover lasted for years. It was hard. The two of you are professionals and will be able to deal with the aftermath. Take care of yourselves and your family.
